Provides inbuilt data model and good matching engine
It's a tough tool for developers. Right now in the market, I think Informatica MDM is number one and is used a lot. IBM MDM was developed by some other company and IBM developed it more. There are definitely some flaws. The tool is difficult to understand from a customer perspective and for developers. Generally, customers can understand Informatica MDM and its functionality easily. If a developer is facing issues with IBM MDM, then a customer will definitely not understand most of the functionality. That is the main concern. IBM is introducing some Next-Gen MDM, where they are using a lot of current technologies and machine learning. Most of the problems we may be facing right now are probably solved in that version.

Offers profiling and address standardization but can be complicated
Informatica Data Quality has its data warehouse, primarily using Oracle and some SQL databases. You need a database to host the data. The cleansed version of the data is stored in the data warehouse. It integrates with PowerCenter and other Informatica tools. The integration details can be complex, but a regional setup is involved in this process. Profiling smaller datasets, such as 10,000-50,000 records, worked fine. However, unexpected issues could arise with larger datasets, such as thousands of records or more, especially with tables containing many columns. Handling tables with fifty or more columns can be challenging, even in Excel. A mismatch in data types could cause the entire system to crash. Continual enhancements are being made to address these issues, which can be unique to specific industries like finance and healthcare.

Beneficial flexible data models, effective GUI workflows, and feature rich application
Everything is updated through forms, and working with UI web forms. It's more record-based processing. It is not mass-based processing. This is one of the things that are not good for TIBCO EBX. Another problem is we cannot join tables and prepare a view where the tables are joined. Someone can code it but it is not a feature of the solution without code. You have to take data from a table, combine it with data from another table and then present it. This could be done better. TIBCO EBX should improve the UI, to allow users to easily mass change the data a bit more. We should not have to click the records one by one to change the data. The filter is in a form, and if one is to filter the data based on a form, you have to click every single attribute. It is difficult with the UI. However, one could be inspired by mobile phone UIs, how they are doing it because they are more efficient and this is missing in TIBCO EBX.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"The advantage is that the matching engine is very good, so that's why customers generally prefer it. From the inbuilt data model perspective, IBM MDM is good."
"When users update their information on one product, the data is sent to a database. My approach was to maintain a master data record, ensuring that each platform loads the latest updated record. Instead of having three separate records, the system keeps one master data record, storing the historical records for reference."
"There are not really many areas of the product that need improvement because the product stays up-to-date with data management needs."
"The features that are most valuable are the governance, the end-profiling and the ETL which allows you to see the metadata repositories."
"Informatica MDM's most valuable feature is the interconnection between multiple Master Data domains."
"It gives you accountability to centralize your data and have it available to different applications."
"The most valuable feature of Informatica Axon is that it is flexible and user-friendly."
"The serverless capability and the packaging application of the solution are valuable."
"It allows the creation of identical tasks that can be applied across multiple tables, ranging from 100 to even 1,000 tables."
"The most important features are the mastering of the data and the UI intuitiveness."
"The feature of auto-onboarding of the assets, enterprise assets via EDC is good."
"This is where I think MDM shines - with its strong fuzzy matching algorithm. This is the essence of Informatica MDM. Based on these results, I can write our match conditions and then perform the corresponding data management activities."
"The data modeling is very good."
"This solution allows the user to have complete control, and is 100% customizable."
"The most valuable features of TIBCO EBX are the workflow and interface."
"The initial setup is easy and straightforward."
"The data quality is very good."
"There are a lot of possible use cases for this Master Data Management tool."
"The most valuable features of TIBCO EBX are that is a complete tool and everything can be done inside, including data governance. We are able to model everything according to the needs of the company. If the company needs five people to agree to a change in data, they can do it with TIBCO EBX. They can model it with any particular rules. Additionally, there is dynamic data modeling, simple workflows using the GUI that comes from the server."
"It is a very stable solution...It is a scalable solution."

Cons

"The tool is difficult to understand from a customer perspective and for developers."
"The product is really only created for large organizations."
"IBM InfoSphere MDM's UI is complicated. It also needs to improve its on-prem configuration."
"We also want better cloud integration, so we could do things in the cloud if we needed to. This would be a good feature to add in a future release."
"Right now, although they offer some templates, I would want more templates available to be imported."
"The configurations could be better. It is a bit confusing because we must develop two tools when building a data model in Informatica MDM. Even though Informatica MDM is a single tool, we have our hub console plus the provisioning tool within that. Whatever data model we are building in the hub console, we have to develop it in the provisioning tool again. It is double the work to create a data model. We are also using external calls or the Java custom plans functions. This can be both positive and negative. Since MDM as a client does not support any complex validation, we have to depend on the external call or a Java call. Every time we deployed, the entire solution was impacted if something went wrong."
"The integration could be a bit better. The process is something new."
"I would like to have the solution in one product and technical support needs to be better."
"It could be a bit more intuitive, rather than technically complex."
"The tool's performance is an area that should be given further consideration."
"Permissions, scalability, and connection with other informatic tools are the main areas that need development. Integration with other tools, such as IDQ, is challenging. The management of data discovery is highly challenging because many data points have identical definitions."
"Database access is highly restricted particularly if you're using the cloud version."
"Everything is updated through forms, and working with UI web forms. This could be done better."
"The documentation needs improvement."
"The tool has to improve mapping and workflow. It should be made more robust."
"We would like to see the community an documentation for this solution be developed. At present there is very little tutorial documentation available, and limited community support for issues with the product."
"TIBCO EBX could improve by making the building of rules less complex and the repository is not robust."
"The initial setup can be a bit complex."
"In terms of improvements that this solution needs, it should support big data."
"The design should be easier and more visual."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It may be costly for small organizations but adds value for large organizations with demanding workflows."
"The price is neither too high nor too low."
"The product is highly-priced."
"The solution is very expensive."
"The price of Informatica Cloud Data Integration could be reduced."
"I rate the product's price a seven on a scale of one to ten, where one is the cheapest and ten is the most expensive. The product is a bit expensive."
"The product is very expensive"
"The product has a high price point."
"Cost-wise, I think it is on the higher side, and that is why we are looking for some better options. Licensing costs are huge compared to other players in the market and for my company."
"TIBCO EBX is a very expensive solution. There is an annual fee to use the solution."
"This solution is costly compared to other products on the market, but this is due to the complete functionality that is provided. The pricing model is very straightforward, and is worked out on a pay-per- instance basis, and only applies to active instances."
"The price of TIBCO EBX is too high. The solution can only be used in a project that has good sponsorship that can afford it."
"TIBCO EBX is cheaper than Informatica."
"I'm just involved in technical, but I understand that its pricing is similar to HP so it is quite expensive."
