Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"In StreamSets, everything is in one place.""StreamSets’ data drift resilience has reduced the time it takes us to fix data drift breakages. For example, in our previous Hadoop scenario, when we were creating the Sqoop-based processes to move data from source to destinations, we were getting the job done. That took approximately an hour to an hour and a half when we did it with Hadoop. However, with the StreamSets, since it works on a data collector-based mechanism, it completes the same process in 15 minutes of time. Therefore, it has saved us around 45 minutes per data pipeline or table that we migrate. Thus, it reduced the data transfer, including the drift part, by 45 minutes.""It is really easy to set up and the interface is easy to use.""StreamSets data drift feature gives us an alert upfront so we know that the data can be ingested. Whatever the schema or data type changes, it lands automatically into the data lake without any intervention from us, but then that information is crucial to fix for downstream pipelines, which process the data into models, like Tableau and Power BI models. This is actually very useful for us. We are already seeing benefits. Our pipelines used to break when there were data drift changes, then we needed to spend about a week fixing it. Right now, we are saving one to two weeks. Though, it depends on the complexity of the pipeline, we are definitely seeing a lot of time being saved."

"It is not like a traditional ETL, but it gives quite a lot of flexibility.""The compare feature is the most valuable piece of it.""Its arrays are powerful enough to handle migrations even when the replication is happening in the background, without causing any trouble with the ongoing traffic."

"The out-of-box integration between Oracle and SAP is really beneficial""The initial setup is easy.""In general, there were a lot of great utilities for working with files.""It has a number of pre-built connectors. Its flow designer is also valuable. It provides the ease of promotion between environments and the ease of connection management. It is also stable and easy to scale and deploy.""The dashboard provided by Oracle Integration Cloud for monitoring and error handling is very intuitive.""The most valuable features of Oracle Integration Cloud Service are the seeded integrations with many communication platforms, such as Slack and emails. It works best for the historical communication methods. Those are still prevalent with all the other clients. When we are doing the integrations, it makes it a little bit easier for us to communicate the same output over Slack, rather than sending out an email and downloading the report. The number of seeded functionalities within the Oracle Integration Cloud Service platform is better.""Oracle Integration Cloud Service integrates well and is user-friendly. If you are not a developer or ops engineer you can still use the solution with ease. You do not need to have developers' knowledge, you can easily adapt and learn quickly to integrate the services. They have good documentation.""The most valuable features of this solution are the SFTP adapters, file adapters, and risk adapters, that we use in everyday projects."

Cons
"If you use JDBC Lookup, for example, it generally takes a long time to process data.""Currently, we can only use the query to read data from SAP HANA. What we would like to see, as soon as possible, is the ability to read from multiple tables from SAP HANA. That would be a really good thing that we could use immediately. For example, if you have 100 tables in SQL Server or Oracle, then you could just point it to the schema or the 100 tables and ingestion information. However, you can't do that in SAP HANA since StreamSets currently is lacking in this. They do not have a multi-table feature for SAP HANA. Therefore, a multi-table origin for SAP HANA would be helpful.""The logging mechanism could be improved. If I am working on a pipeline, then create a job out of it and it is running, it will generate constant logs. So, the logging mechanism could be simplified. Now, it is a bit difficult to understand and filter the logs. It takes some time.""We've seen a couple of cases where it appears to have a memory leak or a similar problem."

More StreamSets Cons →

"HVR Software's technical support could be improved. Whenever we log a case, the response that we get from the support is a bit delayed.""It should have a few more monitoring functionalities.""The documentation can be laid out better to make it easier to find things, and I really wish there was built-in support for changing passwords. Some features don't work as advertised for the platform/repository database, and HVR is not always the fastest at getting results."

More HVR Software Cons →

"It lacks configurable time-outs on connections. Configurable time-outs is an important nonfunctional property that it is currently missing. I have also written about it in an article, and I have also submitted some enhancement requests. Its visual designer could be a bit more responsive. It would also be good to get more XSLT editing capabilities.""Make it more similar to the on-premises features. For example, if you can edit the code directly rather than just dragging and dropping, or if you can edit the examples by going into the background, and one-click migration, I'd like to see included in the next release.""There are a few features that we noticed are not in the cloud. There are some improvements needed. One example is the graphical user interface that needs to improve, it could be easier to use.""The bulk processing needs improvement.""The solution is expensive.""Configurable timeouts on each connection would be good.""Oracle Integration Cloud Service can improve the downloading and uploading of files. I've submitted this issue to the Oracle Idea Labs. The issue is from the front end of Oracle Integration Cloud, we cannot download or upload a file directly or drag and drop it.""The support and resources were lacking — they weren't there."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "We are running the community version right now, which can be used free of charge."
  • "StreamSets Data Collector is open source. One can utilize the StreamSets Data Collector, but the Control Hub is the main repository where all the jobs are present. Everything happens in Control Hub."
  • "It has a CPU core-based licensing, which works for us and is quite good."

  • "I don't have the exact information, but I know it is high, and it is on a yearly basis. There is no additional cost for what we're doing. We're always open to doing things cheaper, so we might potentially implement a different solution."
  • "I've heard that the license for HVR is a bit costly compared to its competitors, but since it's reliable and efficient, I think the customer shouldn't be bothered about the cost."
  • More HVR Software Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "It has different licensing models. The most upfront and most transparent is the pay-as-you-go model. It also has a certain messages-per-hour limit. There is a certain amount that is charged per hour, and a certain number of messages are included in it, which you can scale up as you go. Its licensing is very competent and easy."
  • "In the case of Oracle Integration Cloud, costs can be "predictable" as far as the platform and infrastructure are concerned."
  • "It specifies how much data you use and how much storage you require, among other things."
  • "The price of Oracle Integration Cloud Service is good. It is reasonable and is priced well for the market segment. The model they use is on a per-package unit and we have a two-year subscription."
