Ensures seamless integration and centralized visibility for network security operations
The version upgrade from a single dashboard for all the firewalls in one click is the beauty of Fortinet FortiManager as the most impactful feature in managing our network security. Fortinet FortiManager's policy management enhances our security protocols by enabling us and giving integrated centralized visibility, which has proven to be very healthy. Because of this, we have identified some of the vulnerabilities in our systems, and we mitigated them through Fortinet FortiManager. The central dashboards and the visibility are what appealed to us to go with Fortinet FortiManager. Fortinet FortiManager has adapted to changes in our network scale and complexity as we have geographically 18 international locations, all equipped with firewalls and some cybersecurity initiatives and IT infrastructure initiatives.

Streamlines quick and effective drill-down into the network stack for better troubleshooting
I would like to see a web-based interface that mimics the ease of doing data traces, similar to something like a Wireshark which is a Windows-based network monitoring tool. Wireshark is fast. I'm an old Windows guy, it's what I know. I think the liability of NetMaster is having to do things through the panels. It's slow to generate traces, and when you're doing a real-time troubleshooting call - when you have to wait 30 seconds for a process to spawn and fire up in order to give data back - 30 seconds is a long time when there's an issue. The user interface is probably the biggest impediment to my success with it.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution is very stable."
"If we use the Fortinet FortiManager to replicate the configuration and want to install ten FortiGate on ten sites, you don't have to set configuration on all ten because you can configure one FortiGate and the Fortinet FortiManager will replicate the configuration on all FortiGate devices."
"The user interface, along with user-friendly planning features, makes it straightforward to configure desired settings."
"In general, I have no serious concerns about this product so I have no problems recommending it."
"The most valuable features of Fortinet FortiManager are the overall management it provides and its ease of use."
"The technical support for us is great."
"Fortinet FortiManager's best features allow me to operate multiple devices in one template, which helps me in my daily work as it reduces time and has positively impacted my organization by making it easy to centrally access and manage around 15 FortiGate devices from one portal instead of accessing every device standalone."
"We like the central management capabilities."
"The most valuable features are SNA and IP monitoring, and it has been very easy to define many thresholds, including self-defining baselines."
"Otherwise, I think it is one of the better network products out there."
"The support has been excellent. It is far and away the best among the products that our team supports."
"I consider NetMaster to be the best-of-breed for network."
"Stability-wise, the whole product runs great, especially with the automation; that's where it really shines."

Cons

"There is room for improvement in Fortinet FortiManager because there is no option for roaming profiles, and the cloud console is not available, which is different compared to Cisco Meraki, and the cloud connectivity is not sufficiently good."
"There is a degradation of performance if we activate logs on FortiManager."
"Wizards could be improved in pushing policies."
"FortiManager could be more user-friendly."
"FortiManager needs to handle different firewall versions more efficiently."
"We have experienced a series of minor bugs that necessitated contacting technical support on several occasions."
"The interface could be improved. It is split up into different areas, which makes it more difficult to navigate and get the right section of the correct file. The solution is quite expensive, so it would not be suitable for small to medium sized organizations."
"The CLI could be enhanced."
"I think the liability of NetMaster is having to do things through the panels."
"I would like to see new release migrations made easier."
"I didn't think the SNMP function was easy to set up. That caused some problems with the address space."
"The automation part could use improvement, but I do not do that much with it."
"I would like to see a web-based UI (major effort now in progress)."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"For the licensing fee, we paid around 10,000 to 15,000 euros."
"The pricing model is affordable."
"If you compare Fortinet and Palo Alto, Fortinet is cheaper, but if you compare Cisco and Fortinet, sometimes Cisco is cheaper because Cisco gives us more discounts because of the size. Cisco isn't cheap, but sometimes, we get a big discount from them."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a six out of ten."
"I hope that the prices will become more competitive in subsequent releases, as the current pricing is perceived as somewhat elevated."
"Fortinet FortiManager is not expensive at all if you compare it with other vendors like Check Point and Cisco. Fortinet products are the least expensive on the market in the category of firewalls."
"Fortinet FortiManager is costly."
"FortiManager is reasonably priced - I pay around US$40,0000 per year, which covers fifty locations."
