Failover and failback features enhance data protection but interfaces need improvement
I use Dell RecoverPoint as a backup and recovery device for my clients. It provides comprehensive backup and recovery solutions The failover and failback options are the most impactful features of Dell RecoverPoint in terms of data protection. Additionally, the ability to take point-in-time…

Stable with great features and excellent support
I cannot recall us requesting any changes or new features. It does what we need it to do for the most part. If you are new to the product, the initial setup might be a bit difficult. There could be some new management or monitoring tools added to the solution. Those need a separate license. It would be nice if they were on the basic configuration.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The tool's most valuable feature is stability."
"In terms of operational and financial benefits, in case of any disaster, it can recover."
"It can replicate data from a distant location and it can scan it as well. It has continuous data replication with almost no data loss."
"The solution is now Flash-based, which is better. they moved away from Java."
"The solution provides continuous data protection."
"We have been able to achieve a very low RTO and RPO with near real-time replication policies and adequately sized journals for a limited recovery time requirement to bring systems online as well as a great recovery point to roll back to in the event of a disaster or outage."
"I would rate the overall solution a 9.9 out of 10."
"The most valuable feature we have found in RecoverPoint is its ability to provide the lowest RPO."
"The feature of taking snapshots from the replicated volumes has allowed us to use them for DR testing to validate the application consistent point of recovery."
"Customer Service: Top notch. Technical Support: Excellent."
"The SRDF solution has improved our disaster recovery RPO to near zero or less than 15 minutes with RTO getting drastically reduced."
"We've found the support to be very good overall."
"In all the companies in which I have used the product the ease of Disaster Recovery was implemented in such a manner that the risk of a site disaster was mitigated in an efficient way, and it made the migrations of complete data centers to other new data centers at other locations a piece of cake."
"Customer Service: Very good. Technical Support: Very good."
"We've found the support to be very good overall."
"Customer service for this product was top notch."

Cons

"The interfaces could be improved for better ease of use. There's also room for improvement in direct compatibility with other solutions."
"The initial setup is complex."
"I am waiting for block replication with VirtualBox."
"Other hypervisors should be integrated with this system. Other hypervisors should be able to get the benefits of this solution."
"Integration with VMware is the only thing we need to improve. Another feature I'd like to see is the ability to convert management to HTML. And the integration should also be done on the same level."
"Considering the speed Dell RecoverPoint can recover data, it would be good if we could replicate data from on-premise to the cloud with this solution."
"The product should provide integration with new products."
"The support is horrible."
"The main pain point that we experienced is during device creation. For every newly provisioned volume, creating replication relationships between production and DR site, creating snapshots for third copy at DR site, and configuring them in appropriate replication groups and device groups means that there are lot of steps involved and a lot of room for error. There has to be a lot of checks and balances which need to be incorporated to make sure that the solution is set up correctly."
"As of late I have seen the replication drop but this was not due to the SRDF, it was due to the high rate of IO changes on the OS side."
"If you are new to the product, the initial setup might be a bit difficult."
"Our ROI was minimal, because we use it for a cold, disaster recovery method."
"SRDF compared with EMC Recover Point has less capabilities, for ex. CDP (local or remote) is missing, only EMC assets compatibility, as a TCO is more expensive than implementing IBM SVC or EMC VPLEX virtualization and replication (more supported assets)."
"In general, it’s very stable although some time SRDF don’t behave as expected specially if the link is not stable or saturated."
"If you are new to the product, the initial setup might be a bit difficult."
"The main pain point that we experienced is during device creation."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"While I recommend Dell EMC, it depends on your specific use case. Licensing is perpetual, meaning you buy it once."
"RecoverPoint came free as an add-on to the PowerProtect Data Manager backup software from Dell EMC."
"The product is fairly priced."
"It is considered quite costly."
"The price is moderate."
"Support is an additional subscription."
