Resilience has supported proactive management and secured audit readiness across multiple sites
The resilience in Dell PowerStore benefits my company from an auditing perspective because we know we have that resilience in place. I see Dell PowerStore playing a bigger role in the future because we are starting to use it more, and that is pushing it. The biggest return on investment for me when using Dell PowerStore is scalability. Scalability is key. I can amplify that scalability is the biggest return on investment because we have redundancy between two sites; if something goes down, we have to manage it, but we want to do it proactively.

They can make more solutions for cloud integration in NetApp Private Storage. It should be easier to use the cloud S3 integration, maybe from a NetApp interface, where users can choose the type of storage before sending to S3. I would like to see more audit and performance logs via cloud integrations and ONTAP. Without the need for separate software.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We installed Dell PowerStore, and the application performance has never had an issue ever again."
"Dell PowerStore makes everything so fast, and because it is connected to the VDI, everybody that logs in gets the same desktop and the same experience."
"The most valuable feature of Dell PowerStore is the speed."
"Dell PowerStore has positively impacted my organization because in four years of use now, I have had zero outages on my PowerStores, and that is the only system I have had that has had zero outages in a four-year period."
"Dell PowerStore has improved the performance in general of our servers and our virtual machines by 50% compared to our previous Dell Unity system, which was much slower and much more laggy."
"For our demo lab, before we got PowerStore, we were running on a really outdated storage platform that was running out of space and didn't have enough internal resources to be able to power our customer demos, and this product really helped facilitate and we do quite a few PowerStore demos since we have that device."
"I would recommend Dell PowerStore to others and I think it is the best option on the market at the moment, especially for enterprise storage where Dell PowerMax is still the top storage solution."
"This solution is highly flexible and offers efficient online compression capabilities."
"We feel that NetApp gave us a platform (base) which could clearly arrange all our files and volumes."
"Really, I sell only NetApp because I know it and it's really good and very predictable."
"In terms of quality and uptime, it is the thing to have."
"Very stable and very scalable."
"They have the scalability that we need, that we ask for, and I think it is a very, very good solution."
"Its flexibility and ability to configure volumes is its most valuable aspect; I have no problem configuring the product for different kinds of use cases and configuring throughput or configuring some kind of logical volumes and so on."
"Integration with other NetApp solutions and merging them is manageable."
"We get our data faster and it's very reliable; we don't go down."

Cons

"The service user is only used with the CLI and cannot log into the GUI, which is not a good feature because you cannot perform any maintenance from the GUI."
"After the smooth launch of the product in our company, only the areas around upgrades are a bit problematic. In our organization, we face difficulties when updating the product."
"Dell PowerStore is a really great device. A potential area for improvement could be a little bit more deduplication."
"There seems to be a lack of a price range in the small company, small medium company segment."
"It was very new when we first deployed it a year ago. Even just the upgrade processes and knowing what to expect, as well as documentation, could be more robust."
"If I could improve Dell PowerStore in any way, I would enhance the socialization of the good skills this equipment has, improving communication with partners as the good features are inside Dell PowerStore, however, many customers don't know how powerful it is."
"One of the big differences when we were looking at Pure is that they had more of an in-place upgrade option going forward, kind of future-proofing things. We hear Dell is working towards that, but they weren't quite there, especially three years ago."
"If I needed more capacity, it quickly moves out of Dell PowerStore into something else. If I needed something more, I would prefer to stay in the Dell PowerStore ecosystem."
"The solution could improve by having better support experts. For example, they do not have clear instructions on configuration."
"I would like to see the GUI management simplified in the next release."
"I'm not sure how easy it is to use on the cloud versus on-prem."
"The documentation could be improved."
"We had to write a number of custom tools or scripts ourselves to use it as a staging area between our on-premises datacenter and our cloud installation."
"I'm not sure how easy it is to use on the cloud versus on-prem. If they have different user experiences, they should work to make the two as similar as possible to make it easy for a user to understand both even if they only deal mainly with one."
"They need a little more technical people in Akola. Most of the NetApp people are in Bangalore, Mumbai, or Delhi, but there are very few in Akola. I think NetApp has few technicians in Akola because they mostly rely on partners to service this area."
"I would like to have the Active-Active feature. Some competitors already have it. I would like NetApp to add it to stay competitive."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is very expensive though when you get to this point of using the 3000 with a client. They will start to think about using another vendor. There are a lot of solutions similar to PowerStore in regards to networking capacity and their prices are very cheap compared to PowerStore."
"We are happy with the pricing that we get from Dell."
"When we compared it with the other solutions, the pricing of PowerStore was equal. The pricing is good."
"The rate is always too high. Nobody likes paying for it. I have not seen a client yet who says that the price should be higher. Initially, people look at it, but when they see what the benefits are, it is a no-brainer. We can give them good pricing at the outset."
"In the pricing and licensing department, the product is always too expensive."
"In terms of licensing, my organization has Dell Technologies End User License Agreement (EULA), but I don't know exactly how it works, though it is a big bundle of licenses for Dell Data Domain, Dell EMC Unity XT, Dell PowerStore, Dell ECS, and all such kinds of storage arrays."
"There are no separate licenses required as all the basic licenses are included in the bundle."
"As compared to others, PowerStore is cheaper."
"In general, I am pleased with the pricing, though it is a little high."
"The product is costly."
"The price of NetApp Private Storage is similar to other solutions. There is typically an annual license required for this solution."
"The price could be lower."
"NetApp Private Storage is cheaper here in India compared to other solutions, such as Dell."
"We negotiate whatever deal we can get on the type of storage that it is, but it's totally under our control,."
"It is an expensive solution."
