Has improved incident response with better root cause visibility and supports flexible on-call scheduling
Datadog needs to introduce more hard limits to cost. If we see a huge log spike, administrators should have more control over what happens to save costs. If a service starts logging extensively, I want the ability to automatically direct that log into the cheapest log bucket. This should be the case with many offerings. If we're seeing too much APM, we need to be aware of it and able to stop it rather than having administrators reach out to specific teams. Datadog has become significantly slower over the last year. They could improve performance at the risk of slowing down feature work. More resources need to go into Fleet Automation because we face many problems with things such as the Ansible role to install Datadog in non-containerized hosts. We mainly want to see performance improvements, less time spent looking at costs, the ability to trust that costs will stay reasonable, and an easier way to manage our agents. It is such a powerful tool with much potential on the horizon, but cost control, performance, and agent management need improvement. The main issues are with the administrative side rather than the actual application.

A powerful service that is very stable and scalable
It's a very powerful service, you have to use your training and understand how to work it. After that, it's very easy to collect and to use. It may be hard to use for the administrators. It's like a Ferrari, if you're a very good driver you'll go to 300 but you have to know how to drive it. If you have a Ferrari but you don't know how to use it, it's not going to be good. Also, it's very important to understand what the customer needs to decide on what kind of products you are going to use, and what product and what solution to implement. I would rate the solution nine out of 10.

"Datadog has given us near-live visibility across our entire cloud platform."
"Datadog helps us detect issues early on and helps in troubleshooting."
"We have been able to set very specific CPU and memory alerts, at the very base level, then we started to pull real business value, like 99th percentile response rates for our API calls."
"The seamless integration between Datadog and hundreds of apps makes onboarding new products and teams a breeze."
"The most valuable feature of Datadog is its logs."
"The dashboards provide a comprehensive and visually intuitive way to monitor all our key data points in real-time, making it easier to spot trends and potential issues."
"My experience with technical support has been perfect."
"My experience with technical support has been perfect."
"The product is excellent."

Cons

"The ability to find what you are looking for when starting out could be improved."
"The hardest thing we experience is just training people on what to search for when identifying a problem in Datadog, and having some additional training that might be easily accessible would probably be a benefit."
"Delta traces on the Golang profiler are extremely expensive concerning memory utilization."
"The real issue with this product is cost control."
"In some ways, the tool has a pretty steep learning curve. Discovering the various capabilities available, then learning how to utilize them for particular use cases can be challenging."
"We have asked technical support questions, and sometimes they don't get back to us right away. Or when they do, it is not the right answer."
"The product can be improved by allowing the grouping of APIs to add variables. That way, any API with a unique ID could be grouped together."
"I've only been using Datadog for a few months, and at first, it was frankly overwhelming in terms of both the UI and the available capabilities."
"The presentation of the features can be improved. It can be more user-friendly for the visual part of the portal and to allow the customer to be able to use."
"The presentation of the features can be improved."
"However, the license is expensive."
"The presentation of the features can be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I am not satisfied with its licensing. Its payment is based on the exported data, and there was an explosion of the data for three or four weeks. My customer was not alerted, and there was no way for them to see that there has been an explosion of data. They got a big invoice for one or two months. The pricing model of Datadog is based on the data. The customer was quite surprised about not being alerted about this explosion of data. They should provide some kind of alert when there is an increase in usage."
"The solution is fairly priced but history and log storage can get costly depending on your needs."
"The price of Datadog is reasonable. Other solutions are more expensive, such as AppDynamics."
"The tool is open-source."
"While it is an expensive product, I would rate the pricing level at four out of five."
"Pricing is somewhat affordable compared to other solutions but in order to really lower the costs of other products you need to plan very carefully your resources usage, otherwise, it can get expensive real quick."
"It didn't scale well from the cost perspective. We had a custom package deal."
"Datadog does not provide any free plans to use the solution. When I start with a proof of concept it would be sensible to have a free plan to test the tool and check whether it fits the requirements of the project. Before the production stage, it is always good to have a free plan with some limited features, number of requests, or logs."
"The license is expensive."
