Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Cohesity has very simple reports to help you stay in the know of which servers are being backed up or not.""The dashboard is very easy to use.""It's stable.""The most valuable aspect for me is that I don't have to deal with media in terms of tapes like our existing system does.""Instant volume mount and the SpanFS filesystem itself, which has great dedupe and compression across all of our backups.""The four independent node cluster architecture is redundant. It maintains data integrity and load balancing.""Cohesity customer service is the best that I have ever used. They are extremely fast in responding to cases, fixed all issues, and answered every question in a very timely manner.""No longer does it take several hours to backup a VM or troubleshoot a backup issue."

"Veeam Backup for Google Cloud’s most valuable feature is data backup and replication.""Dealing with cloud solutions is simple and removes many headaches from troubleshooting and implementing the solution."

Cons
"You need to put the full name instead of a few letters while searching for backup. It should also improve customization.""The one area where we would like to see additional improvements is with reporting. There are very granular reports from each grid. There are also some built-in reports within Helios (SAS Management Console) that offers basic reporting. However, for complex, large-enterprise environments, a more robust reporting engine that supports detailed audit reporting and enhanced ad hoc reports would be welcome.""I think Cohesity could add more platform support. For example, they could improve integration with DB2 or make the integration S3 object storage a little tighter. Some of that stuff could use some work, but overall, it's a relatively comprehensive platform.""Features I would like to see include a more visible data lifecycle monitoring tab, and an easier to read backup status dashboard.""Cohesity DataProtect can improve in the area of databases. We have had some challenges with both Cohesity and Rubrik being able to effectively back up in a timely manner the SQL Oracle workloads.""Quality testing of upgrades should be somewhat improved.""We would like it to have more capabilities for different kinds of PaaS or SaaS services in the Azure cloud, such as Azure SQL or Azure Cosmos DB.""The platform has certain limitations, mostly stemming from the restrictions imposed by the VMware API and some other factors. One area where there is room for improvement is the tracking of replicated copies, especially in the context of remote archive duplication."

"Some of the prerequisites for Veeam are challenging.""There could be a feature to take a snapshot for version backup."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Licensing is per node and per protected terabyte. You will also pay 10-15% annually for support."
  • "If SQL is in heavy use at your location, I would highly recommend narrowing your PoC testing to Cohesity and Rubrik. They will be competitive on pricing with each other, so really put them through the paces."
  • "The ROI is huge. Not really measurable at this point, but the price of the unit was a fraction of what a couple hours of downtime could result in."
  • "Cohesity came in at the best price."
  • "Cohesity came in at the best price. Setup was included and done in half a day."
  • "Ensure that you understand the per TB licensing model. Also, Exchange backups are not native to Cohesity and require Kroll."
  • "We purchased support from Cohesity to ensure that should we face an issue, we don't have to deal with different service providers."
  • "With respect to pricing, make sure that you look at both Rubrik and Cohesity as they are very similar and are quite competitive."
