Cohesity DataProtect and NetApp Cloud Volumes ONTAP compete in the data management sector. Data comparisons highlight NetApp's strong reputation due to advanced features, though Cohesity is preferred for its pricing and support attributes.
Features: Cohesity DataProtect is known for its file/folder search capabilities, rapid VM recovery, and cloud integration. NetApp Cloud Volumes ONTAP stands out with its compression and deduplication in cloud environments, appealing to large data users.
Room for Improvement: Cohesity could improve restore times and cluster support, while expanding vendor support. NetApp users seek better support for older versions, simpler monitoring tools, and more flexible licensing.
Ease of Deployment and Customer Service: Cohesity offers straightforward on-premises deployment and attentive customer service, despite some global support inconsistencies. NetApp has praised cloud deployment ease but faces occasional customer service concerns with geographic-specific queries.
Pricing and ROI: Cohesity offers a clear bundled software and hardware option, praised for eliminating hidden charges, enhancing long-term savings. In contrast, NetApp's pricing, though considered higher due to AWS fees, provides cost efficiency for large data volumes with notable long-term performance benefits.
Using Cohesity DataProtect is easier to manage, and it simplifies various components into one architecture, reducing the need for extensive human resources to manage backups.
For the support, I can provide a rating of four only because they initially provide some steps, but later say they are not sure, which is a problem in a production environment.
The support can depend on the region, and for larger customers, I advise having a Technical Account Manager for better assistance.
Cohesity DataProtect is built on a scale-out architecture, which means it can effectively scale to meet various needs.
It wouldn't help with outages either; the scaling is manual, and there are no processes we've used to automate that for unexpected scenarios.
On the whole, any problems were more related to hardware limitations rather than issues with Cohesity DataProtect itself.
There is room to improve the user interface of Cohesity DataProtect for more intuitive navigation.
While there are improvements to be made, such as providing support for older systems like IBM iSeries and tandem systems from HP, the solution overall shifts from older methods to modern practices.
My opinion is that support is generally very good. There are instances where they take longer to respond or resolve issues, especially when customers have urgent needs, but ultimately, resolution is achieved.
It would be nice to see technology supporting the Elastic Fabric Adapter on Amazon AWS, therefore getting RDMA technology for more low-latency connections.
I find Cohesity DataProtect to be expensive.
Cohesity DataProtect's architecture ensures that agent installations automatically reflect in the dashboard, allowing for seamless integration into backup jobs.
The platform is based on a scale-out architecture with each node having compute, RAM, SSD, and HDD.
Some of the most valuable features of Cohesity DataProtect for me include instant mass restore, anomaly detection, and its ability to handle large data volumes effectively.
The granular ability to divide up the performance and the amount of storage you want is really fantastic.
