Has supported robust enterprise deployments and management while pricing and market reach for advanced features need attention
I'm not sure what improvements could be made on the configuration scale since I'm not involved in complete configuration. Currently, it works effectively and they are incorporating AI adoption. Commercially and financially, the pricing is too high. Customers feel that Cisco Enterprise Routers will not offer the most competitive prices. If they can work on pricing, it would be easier for customers who are considering local products. In India, the government has implemented the Make in India initiative, and Cisco has established a manufacturing unit there. Regarding security products, they need to improve market reach, marketing, and training. While Cisco Enterprise Routers are user-friendly for network and wireless platforms, security product configuration and integration are considered complex compared to FortiGate, Check Point, Sophos, and Palo Alto. They have introduced solutions such as Cloud Defense Orchestrator and Firewall Manager (FMC), but the reach of Cisco security products in India needs improvement.

Routing has supported carrier-grade services and has needed more affordable security options
The features of Juniper MX Series Routers that I find most useful are its nice scalability, redundant power supply, and routing engines. Redundancy is maintained in the router itself, including power redundancy and routing engine redundancy. The routers run mostly all the protocols required for the managed service provider, and security-wise, they also have good features, allowing us to provide IPSec VPN services from the routers. These are the basic, mostly used features that we are utilizing. For Deep Packet Inspection, Juniper MX Series Routers have firewall filters and commands related to routing engine protection, and then packet inspection features are configured. In traffic management with Juniper MX Series Routers, I leverage the policer, shapers, and quality of service parameters for traffic management. I also use OSPF traffic engineering features and MPLS-TE; these are a few features that I employ for traffic management.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"This is the Enterprise Class solution for Routing, all technologies needed for now and for the future are supported."
"The commands are easy to understand."
"Cisco Enterprise Routers are easy to use and configure through the CLI."
"Cisco support is the most valuable aspect because most technicians in the industry understand how to interface with a Cisco product. When we contact support, we know we'll probably get the answer whether we have to escalate the request to a new engineer or not."
"The performance of the devices is very reliable."
"The product can help teach valuable life lessons about what not to do when building a network."
"High performance for secure broadband and Metro Ethernet access, Fast Ethernet and ISDN Basic Rate Interface (BRI), secure 802.11a/g/n access point with dual-band radios for mobility that supports Cisco Unified WLAN architectures, firewall, site-to-site remote-access and dynamic VPN services including IPsec VPNs, Group Encrypted Transport VPN with onboard acceleration and SSL VPN, intrusion prevention system, an 8-port 10/100 Fast Ethernet managed switch with VLAN support and 4-port Power over Ethernet, plus one 1000 BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet and one 10/100 BASE-T Fast Ethernet WAN port with Cisco software that helps in configuration."
"Cisco is a great product."
"The price of this solution is better than other competitors, such as Cisco, and we receive a lot of discounts which make the price less expensive and attractive."
"We are able to easily build chassis with Juniper MX Series Routers."
"Juniper's custom Trio chipset drives their MX routers, offering superior performance. Juniper's design separates the control plane and the forwarding plane, which is a key aspect of their architecture. This separation provides high throughput, maintaining line-rate performance across the MX platform."
"Juniper Enterprise Routers is very flexible."
"In our company, we are integrators who create solutions for our customers. I find Juniper EX Series Ethernet Switches to be suitable as it allows for easy configuration and offers features like SNMP. Personally, I find it convenient to switch from Cisco to Juniper EX because of my experience with various vendors like Huawei and Cisco. It's easy for me to read configurations from Cisco and transfer them to Juniper. Mainly, we work with customers who want to change or upgrade their network infrastructure, moving from vendors like Cisco, Aruba, or Huawei to Juniper for modernization. Juniper's features are more advanced, and it helps us meet the diverse needs of our customers. My role involves helping with the deployment and configuration of switching, access points, and Wi-Fi, for building robust and modern networks."
"The solution is pretty easy to set up after a bit of training."
"Once we buy an MX204, we don't have issues with it; we have never had to replace an MX204 on the network."
"I think that the extensions are very valuable. The way you can test the configuration before applying that configuration permanently is very helpful. The rollback configuration is also very useful."

Cons

"Over time things have changed where Cisco has not invested in improving the orchestration and simplifying it for people who do not want to get into the details. Cisco has not gone into that focus."
"The UI could be more user-friendly."
"The pricing of the solution needs improvement."
"Cisco is not granular if we compare it to Juniper."
"Cisco routers are very pricey. This is the biggest complaint from customers for which we provide support."
"If I only have one LAN port in which I want to connect more than one device, I have to buy an add-on card so that I can have two LAN ports."
"I would like it if Cisco Routers had a longer lifecycle. One model should be available for at least five years."
"The price could be better."
"Most IT equipment now has graphical interfaces, and there is a need for the Juniper routers to have a more intuitive web interface."
"In my opinion, to improve Juniper MX Series Routers, Juniper should make the MS-MIC card required for IPSec support more affordable, as it is currently costly."
"Juniper Enterprise Routers could improve by adding a graphical user interface (GUI). They do not have one."
"The documentation needs to be updated to reflect the changes made in the latest update."
"The solution could improve reliability and it needs more functions."
"The integration could be better. It was a difficult configuration with integration with other systems."
"The Juniper technical support agents should have more technical and hardware knowledge of Juniper routers and switches."
"While it is challenging to pinpoint specific areas for enhancement, there is room for better support and updates for Ansible."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Cisco routers are an expensive product."
"The cost of this solution is very low compared to other products."
"The licensing policy can sometimes be very complicated."
"There are licensing costs and they are expensive."
"The price should be reduced."
"It's not probably the best solution if you have a very limited budget, as it can become very expensive to have robust equipment."
"The price is reasonable."
"There is a license required for the use of this solution."
"There is a license for this solution and the price is very competitive. The cost is less expensive than some competitors, such as Cisco. There are additional costs for support licenses."
"$300 to $400 is the hardware cost and for licensing cost, it may be around, for support and all, $100 per year."
"An additional license can be purchased for support of a next-generation firewall."
"The prices for Juniper MX Series Routers are reasonable."
"I would rate it around a three. While I'm not deeply involved in pricing discussions, I believe it is comparatively more affordable than Cisco."
"I would rate the pricing model a seven out of ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive. It is not cheap."
"The pricing of Juniper MX Series Routers is okay compared to other technologies."
"We have to pay for the device and licensing. The support service requires additional costs."
