Provides reliable connectivity but setup and compatibility require improvement
Cisco Enterprise Routers can only integrate with standard equipment. If using something non-standard, it will not work. By non-standard, I mean the unknown brands that are not generally used. There is still room for improvement in performance, quality of service, and security in general. Cisco Enterprise Routers are not easy to set up. They require special skills and don't have plug-and-play capability.

Highly scalable, especially suitable for complex and large-scale network deployments
The "Commit" feature stands out. When you try to commit commands, you have some options like sandbox config, leaving those temporary for 60 seconds. This feature allows you to commit configuration changes to the candidate configuration, and then review them for errors before committing them to the active configuration. Another feature that I like is the integration with Cisco routers. This allows you to connect Juniper MX routers to Cisco routers and have them work together seamlessly. We never have interoperability issues.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is a stable solution."
"The most valuable features are security and throughput."
"The solution is flexible."
"The solution is easy to use, stable and scalable."
"The solution is easily scalable."
"Cisco has one of the best products in terms of routing because of the protocols in which they provide."
"We achieve good performance in our data center."
"Its performance and stability are most valuable. We are using it for the last five years, and it is constantly up. It didn't create any problems for us."
"The solution's main features are its security and ease of use."
"In our company, we are integrators who create solutions for our customers. I find Juniper EX Series Ethernet Switches to be suitable as it allows for easy configuration and offers features like SNMP. Personally, I find it convenient to switch from Cisco to Juniper EX because of my experience with various vendors like Huawei and Cisco. It's easy for me to read configurations from Cisco and transfer them to Juniper. Mainly, we work with customers who want to change or upgrade their network infrastructure, moving from vendors like Cisco, Aruba, or Huawei to Juniper for modernization. Juniper's features are more advanced, and it helps us meet the diverse needs of our customers. My role involves helping with the deployment and configuration of switching, access points, and Wi-Fi, for building robust and modern networks."
"The most valuable feature is reliability."
"It offers high protection and I like it."
"It is very stable and scalable."
"The most valuable feature is the capacity of the throughput for the firewall."
"I would rate the stability a ten out of ten. We never had any issues."
"The product is easy to use."

Cons

"Depending on the customer, the initial setup could be complex."
"The cost is the biggest drawback of Cisco products. They say you'll never get fired for buying Cisco, but it's going to cost you."
"The solution is not easy to manage for people that do not have the experience."
"Some of the features could be more secure."
"There have been multiple issues when updating iOS to Cisco routers."
"They are pretty expensive devices."
"While the commands are easy to understand, and you will find a mixture, if you put a question mark on them then it will create problems."
"The configuration needs improvement. Most routers, like HP or Aruba, use a UI interface. Those solutions are similar and uniform. It's easier for us compared to Cisco because with Cisco you are not using normal commands. They need to enhance the UI to make it more usable."
"Juniper Enterprise Routers could improve by adding a graphical user interface(GUI). They do not have one. Most of our team has to have a background or expertise in Juniper. When compared to other solutions, they have a GUI. It will be easier for new team members to get familiar with, configure, or set up the router. Additionally, adding some monitoring tools would help us."
"The solution needs to offer SDN features."
"The integration could be better."
"Enhancing the capacity would be a welcome improvement."
"The solution could improve reliability and it needs more functions."
"The pricing is a bit too high."
"Finding market expertise is hard."
"One thing that the product can do better is clustering. Rather than just having two of them, it would help if there was one cluster to extend to more notes in the cluster itself."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Cisco routers are an expensive product."
"Cisco routers are very pricey."
"It is quite costly. Its price should be reduced."
"Normally, we pay for the licenses upfront. I think it's mostly just a perpetual, once-off license."
"The price of this solution is high."
"We are on a three-year license and since we use the solution in an educational institute it is priced reasonably."
"It's not probably the best solution if you have a very limited budget, as it can become very expensive to have robust equipment."
"I believe licensing fees are paid once per year."
"$300 to $400 is the hardware cost and for licensing cost, it may be around, for support and all, $100 per year."
"We have to pay for the device and licensing. The support service requires additional costs."
"There is a license for this solution and the price is very competitive. The cost is less expensive than some competitors, such as Cisco. There are additional costs for support licenses."
"The price of this solution is better than other competitors, such as Cisco. We receive a lot of discounts which make the price less expensive and attractive."
"The solution is more expensive compared to other solutions."
"The prices for Juniper MX Series Routers are reasonable."
"I would rate the pricing model a seven out of ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive. It is not cheap."
"I would rate it around a three. While I'm not deeply involved in pricing discussions, I believe it is comparatively more affordable than Cisco."
