We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"With a simple click of a button in self-service, the department or the user can complete his/her job.""There are a lot of valuable features. The version that we're currently casting, Self Service, is going to be the most valuable to us. It is going to allow us to open up the doors, broaden our automation capability and help other business units to be able to automate a lot of the little things that they do from day to day. I'm really looking forward to being able to help other areas with their automation needs. Self Service is really key.""MAS is by far the best feature, although not a feature of the software specifically. MAS has more knowledge than our employees, so we have been able to develop schedules that are far beyond our own skillset.""Thus far we have only had a few minor problems, all of which the vendor addressed quickly. We have not encountered any major problems. The product is very stable and reliable.""Reliability is always important, and the reliability of the system is outstanding.""File Watcher can run jobs when files are made available in a folder.""The whole product is valuable to us because of the integrations that it has with the MCP and the Windows environments. You have to have the agent on each one of them that you want to monitor. The integrations that we have created are along the lines of extracting files and sending them through SFTP to another vendor. Those are the things that were taking a lot of time away from my staff.""Having the jobs laid out while attaching dependencies is a nice addition to the program."

"The interface is very user-friendly and easy to navigate.""I like the dashboard and the various workflows.""The features are upgraded, and every six months they're releasing patches.""Stonebranch performs well, and the graphical representation is excellent. Overall, it requires more technical effort from our teams, but the solution is intuitive, so anybody can use it.""The support is good from Stonebranch Universal Automation Center."

Cons
"Licensing would be the first part I would overhaul. Each time a new licensing paradigm comes out, more features are removed and costs are added. They "add" features that are rarely used and increase charges for the number of jobs run. I'm sure someone in finance got a raise for their brilliance but the end-users won't thank them one bit. Expect price hikes and threats when you hold them to account at every opportunity.""We would like a display of the created date, created by, and last modified date, as well as modified by.""The logs are a little daunting to look at the first few times, however, as you begin to understand what you're looking at, it becomes easier.""More functionality within self-service would be greatly appreciated.""A way to select multiple jobs in the UI for a quick change or to hold, release, et cetera, would be nice.""We are still in the early stages of our implementation, so at this point, I cannot see any needed improvements or features.""The products are extremely powerful and capable. Anytime you have such capability, the programming/configuration that goes into making it work can be complicated.""Upgrading to newer versions remains complex."

More OpCon Cons →

"The new version is going to have more web services where you could string together various web services so that you can create a workflow across multiple web services, which I don't think is there today."

More CA Workload Automation ESP Cons →

"I would rate Stonebranch somewhere in the middle for ease of setup. It wasn't too straightforward for us because our infrastructure is complex.""It's not available on the cloud, so they should take that due to safety, security, and scalability.""It can't handle negative written codes.""It would be ideal if they had the exact same features as the CA Workload Automation DE series. It would be helpful to have calendaring options.""Stonebranch Universal Automation Center could improve the analytics."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "OpCon cost us $80,000 in 2017 money, and that included everything: support, installation, onsite assistance during the conversion, etc. It's been a worthwhile investment by far."
  • "We currently renewed with one of their new technology bundles. It's around $36,000 annually. We run a query of our SQL in our SQL database to see how many jobs we run. They're charging us per usage and whatever add-ons you want to use with OpCon."
  • "It used to be per machine, so we had X number of devices licensed. Now it's not. If we had a lot of machines, the new license might've decreased the cost. Unfortunately, we didn't see the same gains."
