We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The main benefit is the grouping of our security monitoring.""Fortinet FortiGate is a security device. It can optimize security on the networks of a company. It actually protects the company from attacks from outside. With FortiGate, you can categorize the users. You can create a group of users that can access all of the websites for their work. You can limit other users' access.""It is a one box solution, which covers most of the edge device’s requirements.""This solution made it very easy to manage our bandwidth.""It's very good and very stable for businesses. It works very well.""The stability and scalability of this solution are satisfactory. Its SD-WAN, VPN, and URL filtering features are very useful.""The performance is good.""The solution is extremely reliable."

"One of the most important parts is, there is auto-upgrade of the hardware every fourth year.""Scalability is good; the company wants to be able to handle large customers.""Enables us to define user application-level access, so our customers can work anytime from anywhere.""Its stability and SD-WAN features are the most valuable.""They have a very responsive customer service and support team.""The antivirus protection or malware protection has been great.""The features I find most valuable is the VPN and the fact that we can apply our policies to the program.""Easy integration with some other systems like LDAP or Active Directory to manage other permissions and the division of external access and internal access."

"Objects search and tracker logs are useful.""By deploying Check Point, it has made it easier to manage everything from a single interface. The management dashboard and policies are on its single pane of glass.""While not being cheap, their pricing models are competitive.""The ease of configuring VPNs can be very useful especially for companies with lots of remote locations.""The product offers a robust and intuitive experience, catering to the essential needs of users.""The solution is easy to administer thanks to its dashboards. The monitoring is really useful.""I was impressed by how easy it was to activate blades and implement them on a security gateway, with the process taking less than five minutes.""The solution offers a good GUI."

Cons
"Fortinet FortiGate is not very easy to use. The navigation could be improved to make it easier to use.""I would like to see improvements made to the dashboard and UI, as well as to the reporting.""Application management can be improved.""It could use better throughput on some of the smaller boxes for the branch offices.""There are SD-WAN network monitoring, SD-WAN features, Industrial Databases, Internet of Things, Detection, etc., however, we do have not licenses for those features. We thought that if you bought a product, you should have all of the features it offers. Why should you need to make so many extra purchases to enable features? They should have one price for the entire offering.""You do need some IT knowledge in order to effectively work with the solution.""Fortinet FortiGate could improve the user interface. There should be more functionality and options through the GUI.""The platform's interface could improve."

More Fortinet FortiGate Cons →

"Technical support used to be at a very high level but it is now a bit less so.""Sometimes we have a need for detailed reports. Barracuda NG Firewall does not have a reports module and uses a satellite application.""Barracuda CloudGen Firewall should work a little bit more with the logs so that, in our company, we can generate a little bit more reports and get a bit more statistics, which would be fine for us.""The features are a bit limited compared to other vendors.""The initial setup is a bit complex.""The biggest issue that I have with this solution is that it is not super intuitive. Once you know what to do, things make sense, but you can't just open the program and start doing things. It would be great if there was a little bit more guided usage inside the program.""The technical manuals, at times, have images that don't match the actual screens and are not always as clear as they could be on the configuration.""We would like to see a solution that is focused on container deployment, which is very important right now."

More Barracuda CloudGen Firewall Cons →

"Some features, like the VPN, antispam, data loss prevention, etc., are managed in an external console. In the future, I'd like all features in the same console, in one place, where we can see and configure all features.""The documentation could be better.""The routing rules and some more network settings should be listed on the Check Point Smart Console instead of GAIA Web GUI.""The price of this product could be improved.""While the logs are very good and easy to understand, when you want to download these customized logs, they don't have as many features compared to competitive firewalls.""They need to offer quicker resolution and maintenance during downtime.""Check Point can improve a little better in their technical services, especially in the Indian market.""The current reporting capability needs to be parsed and edited to be appreciated by leadership."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Fortinet has one or two license types, and the VPN numbers are only limited by the hardware chassis make."
  • "These boxes are not that expensive compared to what they can do, their functionality, and the reporting you receive. Fortinet licensing is straightforward and less confusing compared to Cisco."
  • "Go for long term pricing negotiated at the time of purchase."
  • "Work through partners for the best pricing."
  • "The value is the capability of having multiple services with one unique license, not having the limitation per user licensing schema, like other vendors."
  • "Easy to understand licensing requirements."
  • "We saved a bundle by not needing all the past appliances from an NGFW."
  • "The cost is too high... They have to focus on more features with less cost for the customer. If you see the market, where it's going, there are a lot of players offering more features for less cost."
  • More Fortinet FortiGate Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "It is a product with a very transparent model of licensing. In the sense of hidden expenses, they do not exist with this model. "
  • "We evaluated a lot of different options. We concluded that Barracuda NG Firewall provided the most features for an exemplary price. "
  • "My advice is to try and evaluate it (Barracuda offers a trial period of one month)."
  • "Pricing is good. Licensing is pretty much automatic if using Control Center."
  • "Pricing and licensing are fine. It's worth the value because every four years, if I buy any other product, I have to replace my hardware. But with Barracuda I get a free hardware upgrade. Today I'm using Xbox. After four years I can take another Xbox or a Ybox."
  • "It would be nice if the pricing and licensing offered for less."
  • "Purchasing through AWS Marketplace was good. We did it because it was easy."
  • "In general, it tends to be cheaper than most solutions."
  • More Barracuda CloudGen Firewall Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "I don't think the product's pricing is a good value. I feel it's very overpriced. I feel a lot of the features for a next gen firewall are there. But I feel it's overpriced, because of the stability issues. As far as support goes, I really can't speak to direct Check Point support, but the third-party was pretty terrible... As far as the licensing goes, it's pretty complex. If anybody was to purchase the Check Point product, definitely make sure they have an account rep come on site, and explain it line by line, what each thing is. It's not straightforward. It's very convoluted. There's no way you could just figure it out by looking at it."
  • "Check Point solutions are very expensive here. They're good, but they're expensive... Check Point is only useful for customers that have a big IT budget."
  • "The price is high in comparison to other solutions."
  • "We pay $5,000-$6,000 a year."
  • "Maybe the pricing is a bit high but you get the durability and the duration."
  • "Licensing issues may be confusing at times."
  • "It is quite an expensive product, although security is a top priority."
  • "This product is not cheap and there are additional costs that depend on what model or package that you buy."

    Reviews from Real Users

Check Point NGFW stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Two major ones are its intrusion prevention feature as well as its centralized management, which makes it very easy to deploy firewall policies to many firewalls with one click.

Shivani J., a network security administrator, writes, "Check Point has a lot of features. The ones I love are the antivirus, intrusion prevention, and data loss prevention."

G., a network administrator at Secretaría de Finanzas de Aguascalientes, writes, “Within the organization, the inspection of packages has given us great help in detecting traffic that may be a threat to the institution. The configuration of policies has allowed us to maintain control of access and users for each institution that is incorporated into our headquarters.”

Arun J., a senior network engineer, notes, “The nicest feature is the centralized management of multiple firewalls. With the centralized management, we can easily use and operate multiple firewalls as well as create a diagram of them.”
