Very cost-effective and well organized with good compression
It could improve its interface or offer a specific screen for the manager of the company. A managerial user who wants more information beyond the operational technician should be able to access it. It could include greater transparency regarding the volume of data trafficked on the network, as well as the expectation of deduplication. A more practical strategy could come with a backup policy model as a suggestion for both large and small companies. A simple suggestion is to visually implement the backup time as far as your physical media.

Complex deployment has limited adoption but has provided structured backup management
IBM Spectrum Protect Plus is very simple to deploy for us, but for more clients or competitors, the solution is hard to deploy and to integrate. For our team, deployment of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus may take a couple of days and longer if you have a complex customer solution. The deployment itself is not very lengthy, but the integration in production is more complicated. I assess the efficiency of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus's Advanced Snapshot Technology as not good because they change a lot of things. During multiple versions, we have experienced many changes in the product, and from the customer's view, it is not a good product because with each evolution, we encounter problems. We do not sell this product or advise this product. For SLA management features with IBM Spectrum Protect Plus, I utilize file level. SLA management is a good solution and a good idea, but the product does not work well, and customers do not adopt this product. I cannot assess the integration capability of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus using RESTful API. I cannot determine what benefit IBM Spectrum Protect Plus brings to the organization because we deployed this solution with one customer, and that customer changed the product after one or two years because the product is not stable and it changes with every version. The customer wanted to move away from this solution. The price of the product is good, but the solution does not adapt to the market. The market in France does not adopt IBM Spectrum Protect Plus.

Pros

"Bacula is very solid, very stable, and very scalable."
"We have been using it for several years and we are very satisfied with how easy it is to configure and set up and run backups."
"The most valuable feature is its ease of use; it works great and it provides you with several standard tools to restore your backup, even after a big failure."
"The most valuable feature is the support for Linux servers."
"The solution has had a tremendous impact on our public company, as we are now cost-effective and even better on performance with our restorations."
"It brought many advantages - such as the learning curve being very light."
"Bacula is pretty stable."
"The API is very good."
"This is a modern technology that supports not only data protection, but include HIPAA resources and virtualization."
"With this product, we now have a reliable backup solution."
"The solution is scalable and can be fitted for any customer."
"If you want to have a strong backup for recovery and restore, you need this solution."
"IBM Spectrum Protect Plus is stable; we have a big environment that we are working in and are backing up close to two thousand machines without any problems from an IBM Spectrum Protect Plus perspective."
"The licensing model of Spectrum Protect Plus is more efficient and cheaper compared to the original."
"The speed of restoring from a system backup is very quick, and their ability to restore a system very quickly, within a backup window, is one of the reasons that we chose this product."

Cons

"Relying solely on a desktop is a bit frustrating as its GUI isn't exactly responsive."
"A more user-friendly interface (GUI) can be developed."
"Bacula needs a graphical user interface because, for administrators, the command-line interface is okay, but for the average user it is not very easy."
"The initial setup could be a bit easier."
"It could improve its interface or offer a specific screen for the manager of the company."
"We are looking for a unique interface that can rule both enterprise and open source editions. Such a thing does not yet exist."
"Many features have been converted to commercial licensing, which restricts their availability."
"We would like to see an improvement in the functionality of the GUI."
"At this time, I do not recommend using this solution and suggest that people choose another one."
"IBM Spectrum Protect Plus's software is easy to scale. However, if it is on-premise, you might need to purchase more storage to store more backups."
"With ransomware protection and cyber protection, more improvement is possible."
"The solution should allow for backup of iOS snapshots."
"Instead of using the command prompt for troubleshooting and administering the backup, there should be an easy-to-use graphical user interface."
"The backup support for IBM Power Virtualization needs to be added."
"Not particularly user friendly."
"The only thing that I would like to see improved is the actual schedule that you get on the policies."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"This is an open-source solution."
"We have a perpetual license."
"The price is lower than that of some competing products."
"In addition to the standard licensing fees, we paid for implementation and training."
"The price offering from IBM is coming down because it is based on number of VM machines. So, IBM is coming to the market to show the added value of the product."
"The licensing model of Spectrum Protect Plus is more efficient and cheaper compared to the original."
"The price is perpetual, but the maintenance cost is annual. That is, we pay once for the product and pay annually for the maintenance and support. The price was much cheaper than what we would have had to pay for EMC or Veritas. The pricing is competitive, and I would rate it at four out of five."
"IBM Spectrum Protect Plus is a little expensive."
"There is an annual license required to use IBM Spectrum Protect Plus. The cost of the license could improve, it is expensive."
"The initial cost of the product is perpetual but the support fees are billed annually."
