Have struggled to find consistent use cases but have used it to support container deployment workflows
I never determined the accuracy of the scanning because I did not utilize this feature. Unfortunately, I have limited experience as I have only helped utilize from a client's platform that installed it before. Regarding VMware Harbor Registry, I did not use it extensively, so I cannot provide detailed feedback. I did not use any specialized use cases of the particular product. I do not think they have anything to improve. It is more about the difference in the product because VMware Harbor Registry is installed mostly on-premises as an image registry, whereas Docker Hub is more convenient and online. One has on-premises secure security, and the other offers convenience because it is online. The initial navigation required learning, but that is more of a developer issue rather than a product issue. The image scanning in VMware Harbor Registry is quite limited compared to other specialized image scanning tools. While it is convenient to have image scanning packaged with VMware Harbor Registry, it is not as comprehensive in terms of security.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Provides secure duplication and the option for service webhooks."
"Azure Container Registry can be used to detect vulnerabilities in your image."
"Feature-wise, the security model and access controls are pretty straightforward and valuable"
"The solution allows you to isolate standard containers, which is its most valuable feature. Azure Container Registry does what it's supposed to do and gives you visibility into the Docker images, the logs, information on pulling and pushing the data, etc."
"It's great for storing images on containers."
"The portability and elasticity features are the most valuable."
"The scanning of Docker images is the most valuable feature."
"Specific tokens can be used to set folder structure or restrict things like read or write access."
"It is very convenient to automate consistently deploying it to a Kubernetes environment to see how it performs."
"The most valuable features of VMware Harbor Registry are that it's lightweight and the in-built Trivy solution, which I find valuable mainly for the vulnerability scanning that it publishes."

Cons

"The security, dashboards, and monitoring system could be improved."
"The building of images on the container is quite cumbersome."
"It's not an open source, and we pay per hour to Microsoft Azure."
"It should be easier to use. It can have more graphical interfaces to manage containers. At present, the handling or management of the containers is very basic."
"The setup process is mildly complex. There is no straightforward management platform, so there's a level of complexity to it."
"Implementation needs improvement. We have a lot of open, online sources."
"While downtime is uncommon, there are occasional server errors like '404 not found' and '504 server not found'. Viewing server logs is not a reliable approach, and improving log visibility would help in troubleshooting efficiently."
"We have found that it is sometimes difficult to pull images from the host application."
"The image scanning in VMware Harbor Registry is quite limited compared to other specialized image scanning tools."
"The default credential rewrite is one of the major pains with Harbor, so this has to be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product is competitively priced."
"The Premium version includes some enhancements but is still quite okay with regard to pricing."
"When using Azure Container Registry, it was $1.5 or $1.6 per day, but I'm unsure how much it costs today."
"Azure Container Registry, has no cost, but you pay for storage service."
"Azure is a bit expensive."
"I would rate the pricing four out of ten."
"I have no information on how much Azure Container Registry costs. I know it's the only solution my institution can use, so the cost was approved."
