Unified monitoring has provided real-time visibility and simplified network troubleshooting
One area of Auvik Network Management (ANM) that could be improved is that once it discovers network devices, the naming at times is confusing. Auvik Network Management (ANM) does not always bring out the hostname and instead brings out a generic name, which I then need to change. If Auvik Network Management (ANM) could improve this aspect so that when it discovers devices, it correctly retrieves the hostname every time, it would eliminate the need to edit each hostname, especially on PCs and printers. The GUI is fine. Auvik Network Management (ANM) has a level of access control where I can manage access and control user access to Auvik Network Management (ANM) portal. The GUI is acceptable for me. Gaining instant visibility into my network health with Auvik Network Management (ANM) is easy because from the setup, it is straightforward. For instance, I manage different sites, so all I need is to install Auvik Network Management (ANM) collector on any server in the environment. Once I install the collector, I automatically start discovering devices. The beauty of Auvik Network Management (ANM) is that it separates devices into tabs for routers, switches, wireless, computers and hosts, and others. At times it might not categorize some devices properly, but I can move them to the right sub-interfaces. In terms of visibility, it is very easy and fast compared to other management solutions I have used. Most other solutions are agentless, so they do not discover much and you might need to add them manually. With Auvik Network Management (ANM), I do not need to add anything manually as it discovers and updates automatically. Using Auvik Network Management (ANM) is mostly easy. I do not have any challenges. In terms of usability, it is fine. The visibility it provides is top-notch. Deployment is also easy. The only suggestion I would make is to make some of the fonts on the images on the topology bolder. Outside that, Auvik Network Management (ANM) is fine because from Auvik Network Management (ANM) management plane, I can push configurations to my devices, do backups, and many other things. Auvik Network Management (ANM) provides a network map along with its dashboard that gives me a real-time picture of my network. I have tested the intelligence myself by adding a new device on the network and after some minutes, seeing Auvik Network Management (ANM) update its topology. Even down to VPN and SSL site-to-site VPN access to other branches, Auvik Network Management (ANM) pulls out all these connections. When I have a new engineer on my team, I tell them to look at the topology, which is the network topology there. There is no need to draw with draw.io or Visio. It is Auvik Network Management (ANM). Using the network map and dashboard in Auvik Network Management (ANM) to gain real-time visibility into my network is somewhat easy. If Auvik Network Management (ANM) could work on making the pictures bolder, it would help considerably. Sometimes I need to open the topology in another tab and put it on another screen to make it bolder. If Auvik Network Management (ANM) could enhance the pictures to make them more bold, it would go a long way.

A cost-effective solution to monitor customer networks
We are not getting any issues with the integrations. Versa Director is the fastest engineering tool and is ideal for use without product management. People must rely on and utilize it to enhance anything they want to increase, as it helps minimize the product. Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Auvik is phenomenal for network monitoring as well as for other functionalities such as remote access or backups."
"All of the features are valuable, but the ability to remote into anything, whether it's a terminal or a browser, is really big for us. It makes things a lot easier day-to-day."
"I like the feature that allows us to remote access and remote troubleshoot many of the devices, including terminal Windows."
"The most valuable feature is device discovery through SNMP."
"The network flow piece is the most useful. We can identify the busiest parts of the network based on the reporting from the switches about what is utilizing the most bandwidth on specific switch ports. I can narrow down which segments of the network might be having issues."
"The automation of the network mapping enables junior network specialists to resolve issues directly, freeing up senior-level team members to perform higher-value tasks. They can see if it is something as simple as a power issue in a wing of a building. This lets them pick the low hanging fruit. Then, if a configuration needs a more skilled person, they can easily escalate it."
"Its proactive monitoring and simplified troubleshooting have significantly impacted our efficiency in handling network management tasks."
"It reduces downtime while improving security. The automated process saves me a lot of time."
"Versa Director is the fastest engineering tool and is ideal for use without product management."
"I think the most valuable functionality is some of the policy pieces that are quite useful."
"Versa Director has easier customer reports, utilization monitoring, graphic shaping monitoring, configuration, template shaping, and deduplication compared to Fortinet and Cisco."
"Versa Director is a beneficial product for the environment my company has."
"The most valuable feature of Versa Director is analytics."
"Versa Director's best feature is the ease of configuration and customer and vendor management."

Cons

"Automatic configuration backups would be an excellent feature for network devices and access points. The solution could take a backup of the configurations weekly and store that, which would be very nice."
"It needs flexibility for the pooling of information. Because it is fully automated, it is pooling everything from the device from a given category. There is no way to exclude things that are not important or if you want to temporarily remove them to see statistics of other things. For example, we get about 100 MB from Auvik. We are unable to limit this. We would rather stop monitoring something, since some features will always give you alerts, because they shouldn't be monitored. However, it is impossible to exclude them, e.g., the internal interface. If somebody disconnects the device from the internal interface, we get an alert. So, this is something that is really painful for us. More flexibility would solve most of our issues."
"In terms of the dashboard, maybe seeing on the map, for example, if you have an access point that's connected to switch one, and the access point you do not have credentials for, that could help us make management a bit easier."
"They need to improve the reporting system. They still don't have a proper reporting system in Auvik. They have built a dashboard in Power BI using APIs, but they should build some sort of report within Auvik itself. If Auvik fixes the reporting or comes up with a good reporting module, it will change the game."
"The map would be the first thing I would like to see improved because sometimes the maps get really odd-looking and the automated placement of things on the map, devices on the map is sometimes not right. In fact, I was just looking at the map and something got moved. I'm sure it didn't get moved, it's just that Auvik realized it was supposed to go somewhere else. So the map could be better if there was a little bit of manual manipulation that you could do."
"Sometimes we get a generic device, then we can't tell what it is quickly from the details. Just having a better knowledge-based integration for determining what devices are, what they're make and models are, would be helpful."
"Network setups take time regardless of the tool you use. It will always take time to build. I wish you could order Auvik to rescan the network on demand when I make changes. Sometimes, I want the network to scan immediately instead of waiting for it to detect the changes."
"If there was a way to do some sort of remote desktop control for endpoints from Auvik, that would be an interesting feature because we have another product that we use for endpoint control to remote into somebody's computer. If Auvik had that, we might move from the other tool into the product that Auvik would offer."
"I think the one area that could be improved is that there are a lot of features; that is also an advantage but it makes things a little difficult, so I'd like to see some simplification so that there is less bloat."
"Versa Director's deployment process is not the best."
"What needs improvement in Versa Director is maturity because, from an operating point of view, it's not mature enough. You'll still need to do a lot of research on Versa Director, so if it could mature faster, that would be very good."
"Versa Director's on-prem SD-WAN hardware and SSL VPN software are not integrated, so you have to buy a separate subscription for the SSL VPN."
"It requires some simplification."
"Versa could be more AI-oriented."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's quite reasonable, although it's reasonable for us right now only because of the small number of devices we're using. If we had a lot more to monitor, then I'd have to double-check the pricing and compare it with other solutions to see if it would be competitive."
"I believe that our bill is somewhere around the $600 range per month. We're monitoring about 63 machines. Most of them are servers. So, $10 to monitor it for an entire month is amazing. You couldn't get somebody in India for that cheap."
"Auvik tends to be on the pricier side."
"Another reason that we picked Auvik was that its pricing is very good. The only non-open-source solution that had better pricing was PRTG, but Auvik had it beat in ease of use. All-around, Auvik has a really great price for the market."
"Auvik's pricing is very competitive compared to other network management solutions."
"Auvik is billed by network device. They bill our firewalls and networks. However, there are devices that are not subject to billing in our environment, such as PCs, phones, and printers."
"Its pricing is very reasonable. We had looked at other solutions where you pay based on the amount of traffic that was filtered through and analyzed. With Auvik, we pay by a billable device. We're not paying based on every single device we have. For one of the locations I have, one network element would likely be a billable device. So, every billable device has a network element, but not every network element is a billable device. If I have a location that has 50 network elements, then maybe 30 of them are billable devices. PCs, VoIP phones, and access points are monitored at no charge."
"The value is there. It's not that expensive per device and it's licensed per device. Unlike some of the other tools that I use, it's not real expensive. It's a good value for the price."
"Having to buy separate licenses for the on-prem SD-WAN hardware and SSL VPN software makes Versa Director very costly compared to other solutions like Fortinet and Cisco."
