Has improved process modeling and analysis while supporting integration with organizational data
The process design in ARIS BPA does help with our operational efficiency. What we are doing is object library management for various kinds of objects that we are using in ARIS BPA during our process modeling. We are using that to do a lot of analysis on how many times a system is being used in how many processes, who are the major stakeholders, and if we enhance one system, how is it going to impact other processes and integrated processes. This is helping us a lot. Everything related to ARIS BPA is helping us with regards to enhanced processes, strengthened controls, identifying risks, assessing process capabilities, and identifying where the gaps are and what kinds of activities within the processes are automated and manual. We are doing a lot of things with regards to the processes as it is at our heart. Processes are one thing and then we have different kinds of things which are related to it, such as SLAs, guidelines, and policy. We are identifying areas of improvement in other documents as well.

Good reporting, a very good dashboard, and easy to set up
We primarily use the solution for processes like preparing worksheets. It's essential to the human resource process like expenses and allowances The new reporting and the new dashboard features are really good. The design of the interface, in general, could be improved. It could be a bit more…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Competition has increased in the last few years and there are now clones of ARIS on the market but they don't go as deep as ARIS, so the ARIS product is still far ahead."
"Objects can be reused across different BPMNs and processes, so we can design new processes quicker and easier."
"ARIS BPA has a good directory option, which helps to keep track of all of your metadata, and that's very useful."
"I am a consultant, and I have used this tool in BPM, BPR, EA implementation, and in more than 40 entities."
"From an architectural point of view, when you're looking at the business area, you can find all the information you have to use as an architect."
"The most valuable feature is the flexibility of the solution to fully customize the methodology according to the company's needs, and to enforce that methodology with features like filters, semantic checks, and reports."
"If you ever tried to draw a picture in a browser app or with a cloud service, it is normally a painful death. ARIS works perfectly on diagrams in the browser, so I was excited. I like it because there have been so many bad experiences in the past with drawing or doing something in a browser. Normally, it's always painful because it's coded badly. With ARIS, it is really well-implemented. It's simple."
"The ease of use is the most valuable, as I have tried a number of BPMN packages and find the user interface of ARIS BPM easier and more intuitive than others, and if your team is knowledgeable on BPMN, it is really pretty easy to figure out on your own because it adheres to the standards extremely well."
"It is very stable. There is no downtime."
"The new reporting and the new dashboard features are really good."
"I find the flexibility most valuable, and being able to connect and integrate with various systems, as well as being solution oriented, is valuable to me as well."
"The new reporting and the new dashboard features are really good."

Cons

"Since the launch of ARIS 9.x, the product architecture has changed and this has made it a bit more complex from an administration perspective."
"Also, ARIS can be very hard and costly to integrate with other tools, as there is no programming API or web services exposed, except from the integrated report API which is targeted to be used for creating reports from the ARIS database."
"In terms of improvement, the app could use some small details and functionalities."
"The Risk and Compliance Management tool is rather complex and moreover, it needs to be customized if you want to use it."
"The tool is expensive."
"We do experience a lot of glitches with ARIS BPA."
"Some improvements have been done, after Software AG acquired ARIS, but I don't believe it's still integrated with the other tool WebMethods in a perfect way."
"While the dashboarding solution for integrating all kinds of process-related information from company sources other than ARIS is getting ever better, my personal wish would be to have a module that is more targeted to an Agile implementation of some modeled processes (model–to-execute)."
"The areas that would benefit in improvement would be the training information, the white papers and useful tutorials as to how to build these typical solutions."
"The design of the interface, in general, could be improved. It could be a bit more user-friendly."
"The setup and configuration is complex."
"The design of the interface, in general, could be improved. It could be a bit more user-friendly."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The tool is expensive."
"Prices are high. However, they are worth it if the organization utilizes the tool to its full potential."
"It depends on different parameters."
"The product is a bit pricey."
"The setup cost and pricing depend on the license (Modeler, Viewer, Administrator)."
"I would recommend the product to only enterprise companies because of the pricing."
"Negotiate. Price is high so make sure you’re getting the best deal."
"In terms of pricing, it would be nice if it were more affordable."
