Finops platform has uncovered waste, supports right-sizing, and improves contract negotiations
I think Apptio Cloudability is a really very good platform for costing. I do understand it can be cost-prohibitive to buy the license to use Apptio Cloudability because of the way it charges. If you are not a big enough company, I can understand that. Apptio Cloudability might want to look at costing models for smaller businesses that cannot afford Apptio Cloudability or Apptio Cloudability Premium. I believe Premium is about one hundred thousand dollars or so in US dollars, and Apptio Cloudability I believe is a little bit less than that. However, there are small businesses out there that will not be able to afford either option. I wonder if that is a market to target, to look at a smaller model of Apptio Cloudability or at least a smaller costing model that could help those businesses as well. The other thing is that there are just a few anomalies inside Apptio Cloudability that I think can definitely be improved. It seems a really small thing, but when you are using it, it can actually be quite a big thing. Since Turbonomic has been integrated with Apptio Cloudability, as good as that is to be able to get those different costing figures and larger savings, it does not give the ability to have an instant Jira ticket integration with the Turbonomic costings or the advanced costing, if you would call it, inside Apptio Cloudability Premium. In the basic costings, you can use Jira and you can open up a Jira ticket and you can have all this information straight from Apptio Cloudability straight in the Jira ticket, assign it to someone, and then someone is working on it. You cannot do that in Turbonomic at the moment. I am not really sure why. Obviously, there is some sort of development issue behind the scenes, I imagine, with the way that Turbonomic works compared to the basic costing. It would be a huge advantage to be able to do that, to just open a Jira ticket, have someone assigned to it, and then proceed forward. I definitely think they should look at that.

Multi-cloud costs have become transparent and teams gain persona-based insights to optimize spend
CloudZero is a multi-cloud cost management solution for enterprise organizations who want to view their cloud spend in a single dashboard with appropriate information and identify cost anomalies in a faster manner. The best features CloudZero offers include persona-based dashboards, meaningful data insights to optimize cloud spend, and telemetry data and integrations with other cloud platforms, along with email-based proactive cost anomaly alerts. CloudZero offers a single pane of dashboard to understand cloud cost visibility for a multi-cloud infrastructure, and we were able to drill down into unit economics to understand the unit level cost in each cloud platform. The governance and security are excellent, allowing us to create and assign permissions based on each persona, so the security features are outstanding. The accuracy and reliability are excellent by using CloudZero AI features, and we were able to get more meaningful data insights for optimizing cloud spend. The features are excellent and we were able to add the AI feature in CloudZero to get more valuable cost optimization insights. Using CloudZero dashboards, every team is able to understand their cloud spend by cloud platform and it helps to detect cost anomalies before there is a cloud cost spike.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most crucial feature in reducing my cloud costs has been the rightsizing recommendations, along with the dashboards that track reserved instance spending coverage and utilization. As for Cloudability's integration with our existing cloud infrastructure, it's not integrated directly into our AWS infrastructure but rather reads and pulls data from it, providing valuable insights and analysis for cost management."
"Cloudability positively impacts my organization by allowing for greater cost observability, which then drives better spending decisions and reduces costs."
"It has already given us insight into how to optimize. So, we are now ramping up steadily its usage."
"It justifies the cost and is worth it, and we loved the experience of purchasing this solution through AWS Marketplace as it is very intuitive and cost-efficient."
"Transparency and visibility are the key features."
"The sizing recommendation will look, and say, "You are only using this at 80%," then recommend a better fit for you."
"The pricing isn't too expensive."
"Cloudability takes care of identifying and managing the cloud."
"CloudZero has delivered practical benefits to my organization including faster cost investigation, better architecture decisions, easier executive communication, improved resource governance, and reduced manual analysis."
"CloudZero is a great tool; I have definitely enjoyed using it and have seen business benefits from it, so I am very happy with the tool."
"CloudZero's best feature is the dashboarding capabilities."
"CloudZero is a great solution for an enterprise organization looking for a third-party cloud cost management solution, and it provides meaningful data insights for optimizing multi-cloud costs."
"The best part of CloudZero is the UI for creating dashboards."

Cons

"We have dealt with a few technical support people where we ask for one thing and they might not deliver straightaway. It seems like they are a stretched across multiple customers."
"My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing was adequate, but it could be made better."
"I do understand it can be cost-prohibitive to buy the license to use Apptio Cloudability because of the way it charges."
"More documentation with more use case scenarios would be nice."
"In general, I feel Cloudability wasn't able to support many resources."
"We would like them to have a linear regression, so we can be predictive for budgets, allocations, and the year's follow ups. We also want to have a longer window of analytics with better certainty that our workload will fit the model, not just in a two week window."
"Right now, I don't think that they do good predictions at all."
"Right now, what we're doing is we are manually putting the data in it, which is something which we don't like about Cloudability."
"I would not recommend it to small setups."
"In terms of improvements for CloudZero, I felt there could be potential improvements in their budget section."
"We were applying various filters that they did not support."
"CloudZero can be improved by ingesting more AI features for analyzing the database platform as a service, and we need more AI-related features in CloudZero."
"I chose a rating of seven because I'm looking for CloudZero to focus more on the optimization side and Kubernetes clustering."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"My team is one of the most expensive teams, and we look at it quite a bit. We have probably easily saved around $400,000 USD a year."
"It justifies the cost and is worth it."
"Cloudability is a bit expensive."
"We have seen ROI with the reserved instances, and having the ability to predict what reserved instances you can get. We can save tens of thousands of dollars, and hundreds of thousands of dollars in some cases."
"The price of the license or the usage is a percentage of the top consumption. So it varies from year to year."
