Alluvio Aternity and Cribl compete in the IT monitoring and data management space, with distinct capabilities. Cribl may have the upper hand due to its cost efficiency and data reduction features, appealing to enterprises seeking to optimize data processing expenses.
Features: Alluvio Aternity provides detailed end-user interaction monitoring, proactive troubleshooting, and extensive dashboards with customization options for application performance insights. Cribl features flexible data routing with its Stream and LogStream, significant data volume reduction, and seamless integration with multiple downstream systems.
Room for Improvement: Alluvio Aternity should enhance reporting, dashboard customization, and application monitoring integration. A more intuitive script creation process would be beneficial. Cribl requires improvements in handling larger data volumes and log processing simplification. Better documentation, AI feature integration, and scalability enhancements are also needed.
Ease of Deployment and Customer Service: Alluvio Aternity offers diverse deployment options, including on-premises and cloud. It is praised for its customer support, though communication could improve. Cribl boasts flexible deployment across hybrid and cloud environments, with highly regarded customer service and adaptability to large-scale cloud settings.
Pricing and ROI: Alluvio Aternity's higher cost often requires price negotiation but provides ROI through performance and cost reduction benefits. Cribl is seen as more cost-effective, especially for enterprises, offering long-term savings through efficient data handling. Both require strategic investment to maximize returns.
What we've seen is really an overall reduction of just shy of 40% in our ingest into our SIM platform versus prior to having Cribl.
The second thing is that data aggregation, sampling, and reduction that we're able to do of the data, lowering our overall data volume, both traversing the network as well as what's being stored inside of our final solutions.
In terms of reduction, we were able to save almost ~40% of our total cost.
Riverbed's support is good in terms of response time and knowledge.
I would rate the technical support from Riverbed as nine out of ten.
They had extensive expertise with the product and were able to facilitate everything we needed.
Usually, within an hour, we get a response, and we are able to work with them back and forth until we resolve the issues.
Sometimes by hearing the problem itself, they will know what the solution is, and they will let us know how to resolve it, and we do it immediately.
Alluvio Aternity and Nexthink are both scalable solutions that work well with large organizations of over 100,000 users globally.
The infrastructure behind Cribl Search is also scalable as it uses a CPU and just spawns horizontally more instances as it demands and requires.
Compared to other SIEM tools I use, any slight change on the operating system end impacts a lot on our SIEM tools and other things, but Cribl performs well in that regard.
Cribl performs effectively across both market segments.
Stability is not the deciding factor; it is more about how a tool fits the use case and integrates at an enterprise level.
Migrating from those SC4S servers to Cribl worker nodes has truly been a game-changer.
Regarding scalability, we started with zero servers and have around 285 servers now.
Cribl is designed to deal with certain kinds of loads and is not designed to handle any scenario in the market.
The integration of AI agents could enhance these tools further, replacing traditional agents and plugins.
Riverbed can make Alluvio Aternity better by having the same Aternity agent help in security, such as antivirus or EDR, which would be useful, allowing customers to avoid having multiple agents installed on their endpoint machines.
A more stringent role-based access control feature would enhance security and allow granular control over what users can see and access.
When passing query logs or DNS logs, if certain malicious query patterns need to be identified or if fast-flux attacks are happening, Cribl can report that and those would definitely be a plus for them.
I would advise others looking to implement Cribl that if they are evolving Cribl Search, it would be very interesting to see more capability, more flexibility, and more ways to share the data similar to Splunk.
Riverbed is costly in the Indian market
Over time, the licensing cost has increased.
It was cheaper than the Splunk license.
Splunk is more expensive, and Cribl appears to be more affordable.
Alluvio Aternity provides predictive analysis and trend analysis for IT teams to evaluate the performance of hardware and applications.
The reporting part of Alluvio Aternity is good; it is granular, user-friendly, and easy to use.
The data reduction and preprocessing capabilities make Cribl really unique.
Cribl has a feature called JSON Unroll or Unroll function that allows you to differentiate the events; each event will come ingested as a single log instead of piling it up with multiple events.
The Cribl UI is very simple and easy to use, particularly when working with data from various sources; it makes it very easy to create pipelines, add complex logic to those pipelines, and then gives you a preview of what your data looks like before applying that pipeline and what you get after.

Reviews from Real Users
Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by Aternity users.
PeerSpot user Ryan P., Head of Cyber Security Engineering & Oversight at a media company, says, "The most valuable thing that you get from Aternity is very broad visibility. You get visibility of your network, of your endpoints, of your software usage, your application performance, capacity, in one pane of glass. We had 20 to 30 IT tools, including application performance monitoring, network monitoring, security, endpoint detection, network protection, capacity management, service management — every kind of monitoring you can imagine. But Aternity was always the first place that I turned for anything, because you can see everything in it."
An Endpoint Administration Manager at a financial services firm mentions, “It gives you the ability to filter the comparison by geography, industry, or company size.” He also adds, “We have absolutely seen ROI. It's really given us a very high level of visibility that we've just not ever had.”
A Regional Network Manager at a recruiting/HR firm comments, "Aternity provides metrics about actual employee experience of all business-critical apps, rather than just a few. It does some out-of-the-box monitoring for the Office suite, but you can create custom monitoring for any of your applications, whether a web client or a desktop application."
A Sr. IT Manager at a manufacturing company states, "The most valuable feature is the application performance troubleshooting because Aternity is able to provide the performance from the end-user perspective. It doesn't just give the standard application logon time, etc., rather it's also able to measure the performance inside the application, the performance of specific transactions in the application, and break it down into three elements: the client time, the network time, and the server time. This gives us a lot of insights into what we need to focus on to improve the performance of an application."
