Solution empowers self-service reporting and delivers comprehensive performance insights

Empowering business users means they should be able to work independently without depending on the developer. One advantage of SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence Platform is self-service capabilities, allowing users to do drag and drop to build their own reports and perform analyses without needing technical know-how.The platform has many drivers that I can use to connect to virtually all available databases, making it easy to integrate with Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and many others. With the cloud version, I can fetch data on-premises and to the cloud for analysis easily. It is so flexible that I can make choices for fetching data. For authentication in an SAP environment, I can choose to integrate with SAP logon for SSO or use AD authentication for convenience, along with the flexible integration options.

There are several valuable features, but the two we use the most are ETL DataManager to create data process flows and API Connectors to Ad servers.

It's still a niche product and the mobile/web development seems to still be in progress of improving. The room for improvement aspect is in comparison to other software that has a cloud interface which lets their users create/edit visualisations via a browser, doing away with the need to actually install anything. You just login with an email/password similar to how Google docs or MS Office On-line works. A lot of software is starting to move along this path and have started to offer stripped down on-line versions of the desktop software with fewer features. However, I know that the upcoming 3.0 (no set release date but optimistically it is targeted for this year) will start to allow users to "stream". How this works and the extent of it is still under wraps by the look of things. Also, in terms of mobile/web development this is to do with how the reports are sent to end users. Currently the standard way is to send a specialised file format called a .iok file via email, which the end user will open within their own viewer version of Omniscope. They are moving away from this by allowing the developer/analyst to host them on-line and view them in a browser see these examples http://staging.omniscope.me/ Omniscope has partially (still bugs in 2.9) incorporated the ability to have a browser within itself for the sole purpose of being able to create HTML or Javascript library visualisations like d3.js within it (basically you embed standalone HTML pages). "I really want SAP to focus on the dashboarding side. Based on what I have seen in the past 10 years, dashboarding has captured a lot of markets. Executives at the top-level want data that is summarized, looks good, and tells you a story. That's where Tableau, Qlik, and Power BI have an upper edge. It doesn't mean SAP doesn't give you dashboarding. They do have a dashboarding solution, but Tableau, Qlik, and Power BI are more intuitive and more attractive. I would like SAP to capture the dashboarding market as well, wherein they give at least some competition to other competitors. Presently, Tableau, Qlik, and Power BI are leading the market."

Omniscope is data analysis and visualization software distributed by Visokio. Omniscope is a desktop application that includes 3 integrated workspaces: DataManager, DataExplorer and DataPlayer. DataManager is a visual drag-and-drop data import, assembly, transformation and file refresh/export workspace which defines the operations to be executed/re-executed whenever any of the data sources connected to an output file is changed or refreshed. DataExplorer is a multi-tabbed, multi-view data visualization, editing, analysis, reporting and presentation/publication interactive interface, with a number of visualization options and integrated web browser windows to display related web-based content, including the results of user-triggered requests to independent web services. DataPlayer is a separate workspace for creating exportable Flash DataPlayers, standalone interactive combinations of encapsulated data, visualizations and query devices that can be inserted into web pages and documents such as PowerPoint and PDF.
