Unlocks actionable insights through user-friendly analysis features
The self-service capabilities that Qlik Sense offers are significant. They offer natural language processing, allowing users to ask questions in layman language, and Qlik Sense will create charts and narratives automatically. Users can access any dashboard developed in Qlik Sense from familiar portals such as Okta or other company portals through embedding features. The integration with chatbots, particularly Microsoft Teams, allows users to access dashboards and ask questions directly within Teams. The collaboration feature enables users to share analysis by taking snapshots and tagging team members within the Qlik Sense interface, eliminating the need for lengthy emails or screenshots. The storytelling feature allows users to create presentations directly in Qlik Sense using dashboard analysis, making it easier to answer questions during meetings. The subscription feature enables users to receive charts and sheets via email instead of navigating to the dashboard, facilitating monitoring purposes. Qlik Sense offers alerting capabilities where users can set thresholds for KPIs and receive notifications when these thresholds are reached. The platform also includes AI/ML features for predictive modeling through a no-code component, allowing business users to create and deploy AutoML models without depending on data scientists. The Qlik Answers component, featuring generative AI capability, enables users to get answers from unstructured data including Excel, HTML documents, or Microsoft Word documents by creating a knowledge base. The user-friendly interface operates on a drag-and-drop approach, with Qlik Sense suggesting appropriate charts based on selected dimensions and measures. The associative engine capabilities allow data association between tables, implementing selections across related tables. The platform uses a color-coding system (white, gray, and dark gray) to show related, excluded, and unrelated data selections, providing insights beyond traditional BI tools.

Cloud backups have secured critical data and have enabled fast recovery from ransomware threats
I do utilize the automated policy-driven operations with Veritas Alta Data Protection. They have helped in reducing manual workloads because manual intervention is required to handle errors or backup job failures when trying to back up a particular AWS account where critical resources are deployed. Discovery takes a lot of time because we are backing up data already in the S3 buckets. We often face challenges with resource discovery because discovery does not happen once a month; it happens daily. Every day, the discovery job runs before backing up resources. We may encounter issues in discovery or related to permissions, meaning if we have backup permissions on a bucket but further intensive permissions are present on any particular file, the Veritas Alta Data Protection job will skip that file. At times, backup fails with one or another error, and manual intervention is definitely needed. It is predominantly automated and policy-driven, but manual intervention is also required sometimes. We tested the effectiveness of Veritas Alta Data Protection's granular restoration feature during POC because we had a requirement to test various scenarios like restoring the bucket in a particular region, restoring the bucket in a different region, restoring EC2 instances, restoring containers, and databases. One more crucial feature for us in selecting Veritas Alta Data Protection is having replication between Veritas Alta Data Protection clusters. Once the primary backup job is complete, Veritas Alta Data Protection runs an SLP job, which is a storage lifecycle policy. This SLP job moves or replicates the data from one Veritas Alta Data Protection cluster to another. If the Veritas Alta Data Protection cluster goes down, the data is still replicated to the other Veritas Alta Data Protection cluster.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Qlik Sense is essentially a web-based tool even though it's on-prem – you're working off an HTML page – so it's pretty quick. Your processing speed does not matter because you're using a lot of stuff through the web. That's great because it brings down the cost in regards to hardware."
"The reports are better looking than in QlikView."
"The flexibility of Qlik Sense and the addition of 3rd party extensions allow us to extend the use of Qlik Sense beyond analytics and bring the platform to the core of our digital workplace, augmenting analytics with workflow, and team collaboration."
"Qlik DataMarket"
"Qlik has a powerful load script that uses an enhanced SQL language which is excellent for loading and transforming the data."
"Qlik was the first company to implement an in-memory associative analytics engine. This basically means that all data is loaded into memory, but it also means that instead of joining data together, the data is associated together. From the front end, from the UI point of view, data can be joined or included or excluded on the fly. It can be drilled down and drilled through and users can slice and dice it and that type of thing can be done from anywhere in the data to any other place in the data. It doesn't have to be predefined. It doesn't have to have hierarchies or anything like that."
"The drag-and-drop dashboard builder is an intuitive interface for building dashboards from source reports."
"The drag and drop functionality provides an easy and fast development approach."
"Veritas Alta Data Protection is an industry leader, and I am quite impressed by the leadership that they have in this segment."
"The solution is very easy to use."
"Regarding cost-effectiveness and return on investment, we have seen benefits in the form of saving time and resources."
"It is rather easy to replicate data across your cloud environment using this solution once you've done it a few times."
"The ransomware protection feature and anomaly detection are the most valuable, and the ability to integrate new cloud workloads is also valuable."

Cons

"The only thing I would like to see is the ability to create a master app that opens when a user creates a new app that has all the master items, colors, logos, etc., that my organization uses. This would help with keeping master items the same across the apps and would make development a little quicker."
"Data modelling automation needs improvement."
"Error handling is an area that needs to be improved."
"Needs more bookmarking and a data load screen."
"There is room for improvement in the learning curve when getting started, but training resources have been growing."
"The communication with the solution's sales managers in Europe is very bad, making it an area that requires improvement. My company usually gets no response from the tool's sales managers."
"I would like for it to be more of a plug and play with all of the tools and sources. It would make it much easier to use."
"They should generally focus more on the evolution of current capabilities rather than doing everything but only at 50% effectiveness."
"Since Veritas Alta Data Protection recently entered the market, it does have limited technical resources for support."
"Maybe a year and a half ago, during a backup, I had an updating issue with Java."
"It would be nice if reporting was a bit easier."
"I hope we will be able to use Veritas Alta Data Protection in a very user-friendly manner, which is what I am expecting from Veritas features."
"NetBackup should be made more user-friendly, and a video tutorial should be created to help new users understand how to configure and use the solution properly."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Licensing can start to get expensive, but compared to other tools in this space it is about average."
"Licensing is quite good, easy, but slightly expensive."
"The costs can initially become quite high. Make sure you have a clear understanding of who will truly use the product as opposed to someone that will simply receive the end report."
"Qlik Sense is pretty good in terms of price."
"Qlik Sense and its pricing model can follow any scalability."
"Currently, our ROI is clear and concise decision-making. This timely addition will easily add $15 million to our bottom line in 2017."
"Qlik Sense pricing and licensing is like that of QlikView. It's on the high side for a small company, but it’s competitive among its peers. Use of licenses (referred to as tokens) is a bit confusing. There is a login access pass for infrequent or anonymous access."
"Licensing: Review the named model and move towards a usage model (e.g., cores, memory, computers, API calls, etc.)."
"NetBackup is 20 percent more expensive compared to the competition."
