The open architecture is easy to extend and enhance
Pandora could deliver better analytics out of the box. You can work around these limitations with the help of other tools like Grafana. The shortcomings are mostly on the graphical side. The built-in report generators are a bit limited in some areas. They could improve their management console's ability to monitor large environments could be improved. For example, SNMP management is only partially integrated into the management console.

Unified monitoring has transformed agriculture training data into secure, actionable insights
The foundational pillars of Splunk AppDynamics are very strong, and we do not have any issues. However, there are standardization challenges with limited visibility on some parameters when the system is integrated with multiple platforms because of differing technology stacks. Many applications function on different technologies, making fetching data difficult. We have discussed this with the business team, and they have said that they will offer a standardized application architecture through which APIs can be made more stable and accommodating. We have also requested a centralized monitoring framework and network, as many clients operate out of India and have requested centralized systems for real-time performance monitoring with just one click. Improvements and enhancements are happening weekly, and there are requests for regular training and orientation. I believe those things can be incorporated, but otherwise, everything is fantastic. For the agriculture ecosystem, there are many areas in remote or rural areas where connectivity constraints are huge. Limited internet bandwidth makes real-time monitoring difficult. We have requested the team to develop a hybrid model for real-time monitoring on lower bandwidth as well. Deploying offline-first or low-bandwidth solutions would strengthen synchronization. Additionally, mobile applications for rural environments would be beneficial. In data quality and governance, sometimes the system gives duplicate records, and there is inconsistency when checking data fields. It is not frequent, but we believe a complete solution can be developed here.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The support is excellent for this product; their response time is very fast, and they are very knowledgeable."
"We are able to control our business with this all-in-one monitoring tool."
"The most valuable features are auto-discovery and automatic detection of the network topology and network monitoring."
"Features I have found most valuable with Pandora are the personalized metrics and the simplicity of data."
"Thanks to its flexibility, I have been able to adapt the tool to our servers and find out quickly how their console works."
"This tool has been of great help because we can manage faster solutions with the problems in our network and it helped us reduce our response time."
"The most valuable feature is that it is an all-in-one monitoring system."
"This product has allowed us to identify and correct certain issues that were affecting our solution."
"Transition tracing is the most valuable is pretty easy and useful, but the user experience piece is also good."
"We previously had an operations team continuously monitoring applications. Now, they just have set things up and our developers can monitor, view, and act on them, accordingly."
"From a reporting and dashboarding perspective, their API, which is what I deal with the most, is unmatched by any company that I've come across."
"Provides monitoring more around business processes versus just servers, applications, etc. E.g., with complex systems, where a business process passes across multiple applications, the business needs us to monitor the health of the process, not just a segment of the application."
"It has improved my organization because we are able to proactively and reactively look at performance issues."
"Setting up the monitoring agents was straightforward."
"Technical support was excellent."
"Our organization revenue has doubled after the introduction of Splunk AppDynamics and other features."

Cons

"Pandora could deliver better analytics out of the box."
"This solution requires proper training to get 100% out of it."
"We would like the real-time monitoring of an interface to be improved within this solution."
"I find that this software is resource heavy, and demands a lot of processing capacity."
"I would like for the solution to be faster and have a better tolerance between parallel servers for Pandora and Pest Control."
"An update to the Android app would be appreciated."
"I would like to have a dashboard with all assets displayed, with a quick hover-over status."
"I sincerely believe that Pandora needs new ideas for functionality closer to advanced device security monitoring."
"Further integrations with other monitoring systems would be very helpful. I want to see it interacting more with the infrastructure, to get more statistics and details from our infrastructure environment and not only applications."
"However, we have a slight complexity where for infrastructure we have to go to one agent, for the database we have to go to one agent, and for the application we go to another agent."
"I would like to see something that lets me set real dollar figures, not just to outages, but to the solutions as well... when I'm looking at problems and have found a problem that I know I need to address. I could flag it off and have AppDynamics estimate how long a person would have taken to find that without it. That would give me a lot of leverage for justifying the existence of APM, which I really need."
"Technical support is slow. Basically, we mail, we wait, we mail."
"I have to use Splunk AppDynamics because the organization already implemented it. But my experience as an SME, subject matter expert on the APM tool, I would probably lean towards Datadog a little bit more than Splunk AppDynamics."
"I would like to see more of a unified platform. They're very, very new on the server side, machine agents. I want them to be more mature in this area."
"I would like to see better dashboarding and an easier way to redefine transaction names."
"The product lost its place as an industry leader."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"My rule of thumb would be that if you need more than thirty agents, and you lack an automation tool such as Chef or Puppet, you will save a lot of time and money going to the Enterprise edition."
"Only one payment and it includes support, updates, new versions, and access to the complete library of plugins except for SAP and z/OS."
"They are very competitive on the pricing side. That's one reason why my manager keeps using it."
"You get the license and it includes updates, new versions, and access to the complete library of modules."
"You have to pay for the number of agents and models that you are monitoring. I would rate the cost at three with one being the most expensive and five being the cheapest."
"In terms of money, the Enterprise version is the cheapest that I have found after a market study."
"The Open Source Community Edition is great to just explore the software, or use it on medium-sized infrastructures."
"The open-source version offers 100% functionality and the hardware requirements for a solution like this one are very modest."
"It would be better if there were more solutions incorporated into the base price. "
"In terms of pricing, I feel that when you compare the benefits that we get to the price that we paid, it is reasonable."
"I believe there was probably an extra charge whenever I wanted to contact the support team."
"AppDynamics Server Monitoring is a very expensive product, but if you negotiate well, you get value for money...My company used to make early payments toward the licensing costs of the solution, but now my company has opted for a different licensing model."
"The license fee for Application Analytics is in the range of 2.5 million over three years, with extra fees for service contingencies."
"The pricing is very competitive."
"There is an annual cost to use this solution. The licensing model could be improved by making it more cost-effective."
"The pricing for AppDynamics Server Monitoring in Africa and the Middle East is too expensive, so it's very hard to sell it to customers. If there could be different pricing or package for the region, that would be great. My company pays for the license of AppDynamics Server Monitoring on a per-agent, per-server basis. It's $700 to $1000 per server, and it's paid annually. My company is on a subscription model for the solution. On a scale of one to five, where one is expensive and five is cheap, my rating for the price of AppDynamics Server Monitoring is a two."
