We use VPD, Virtual Private Database, for the multitenancy. We are selling products and using Oracle Multitenant for tenants, for building the product for our customers. We have many customers, actually thousands, and the main objective is to separate data from one customer to another The…

Reliable and able to expand but needs to be more secure
It is not as good as a SQL Server. I prefer to work with the SQL Server for Microsoft or Oracle. These are better as there are some comments on SQL Anywhere that makes me feel that I'm blocked. We'd like to have them update to a new version. They should update more often. I find I can't move to a new version without running tests as there are chances of bugs that can get into my system. The initial setup is not simple or straightforward, and it took a while to deploy. It is not as secure as it could be. This is an aspect they need to improve. There needs to be more encryption.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The cloning features are outstanding."
"Oracle Multitenant reduces operational costs because it licenses the root container for multiple databases, costing less than traditional non-CDB databases, which results in financial savings for the company."
"As far as this product is concerned, we are happy with this product."
"I would rate the scalability a ten out of ten. Our clients are mostly medium and enterprise businesses."
"The modernization aspect of Oracle Multitenant is significant; it wasn't available previously in database technology, but now it is, enhancing database consolidation."
"There are only benefits to using this solution."
"The analytics tool, Oracle Analytics Server (OAS), is the main important component of this solution and in the analytics part, the VPD handles all the necessary functions effectively."
"You can scale the solution as needed."
"It's a great product to use if you are already have an integration with SAP's ERP/CRM systems."
"SAP SQL Anywhere is very helpful."
"We've found the solution very reliable overall. It's very fast."
"The most valuable features of SAP SQL Anywhere are the ease of use and the user interface is intuitive."
"The auto-backup replication is a perfect feature. That is the feature I liked the most."
"It works well in general."
"SQL Anywhere is easy and it did not cost as much as SQL Microsoft."

Cons

"From the scope of improvement, I would say that people are adopting new query options. Certain databases like MongoDB adopt new query options so that they can just pull the data."
"The Oracle Database support is not very good, unfortunately."
"Oracle license pricing is an issue due to its high cost. Our organization is compelled to reduce CPU usage by seventy CPUs because the Oracle license cost depends on it."
"That said, Oracle in general doesn't invest in their UI for any of their applications. If we're talking about the dashboard or other user experience, there is room for improvement. I'm talking about on premises. The cloud version has started to improve."
"There is room for improvement in customer service and support."
"It would be beneficial to include this solution with Oracle Enterprise, but Oracle charges additional fees for it."
"I would rate technical support at Oracle a three out of five. They're good, but not good always."
"Stability and full feature coverage will come with future release."
"It is not as secure as it could be; there needs to be more encryption and we can find passwords very easily."
"It is not as secure as it could be."
"We have had some stability issues with SAP SQL Anywhere, but I am not sure if it is an application or network issue. We sometimes have a large amount of data being queried and it cannot handle it."
"A problem we are experiencing now is when doing a backup in SQL 2012 and 14 there's a problem with the license."
"SAP SQL Anywhere needs to incorporate functionalities like SAP S/4HANA."
"The interface is not easy in comparison to the SQL Server. It could be more user-friendly."
"Performance issues when syncing the MBO packages to the server."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"For me, I will go with it if I have the budget. Some features are nicer than before, but at the end of the day, you always have a limited budget. I prefer to upgrade and get a specific hardware when possible. At the end, you will have to make a compromise. You will not get everything you would have liked to have."
"This solution is a little bit pricey."
"The price is worth the quality."
"SAP SQL Anywhere is affordable."
"SQL Anywhere cost us about $400."
