We are going to re-implement the Oracle Hyperion system due to changes in our chart of account process and some other factors. We were analyzing whether to move to a cloud system, EPM Cloud. We have already proceeded with our Oracle Hyperion re-implementation with the vendor, and it is in the approval process. All options have been evaluated. We have made comparisons between EPM Cloud and Oracle Hyperion. Oracle Hyperion is not too user-friendly. EPM Cloud has more support towards functional users who can generate reports according to their own needs. There are specific reasons why we have not moved to the cloud, such as our various processes including reconciliations. We do not prefer customization in Oracle Hyperion, but due to business needs, there may be a few minimal customizations made. The forms are a bit complex for functional users. To create and open forms is not simple. We need trained personnel, and training is essential to use it efficiently.

It has helped us speed up the turnaround time on our consolidation, and we haven't had anything come up that the program has not been able to solve
The part that we liked about Excel is that it had a better interface in terms of just graphical illustration of our results. So, if we wanted to look at our financial trends and put it into some type of graphical interface for people to look at, we still have to leverage Excel for that. The dashboards aren't as usable as maybe some of the other solutions, such as Tableau or other BI tools. The application that we use today for our BI tools is Tableau. That's how people absorb information. We don't really use the functionality or dashboards within Planful because of the robustness of Tableau. That's our single source of data. If Planful was better or more comparable in terms of features and functionality, we could probably leverage that in Planful.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Hyperion tools are very useful in finance, with data relationship management that is good for storing hierarchical information and can be used for data enhancement and modeling, offering many features that assist other parts of the organization as well."
"We are very happy with the product and we are beginning to move into OneStream as well."
"The feature that allows automation of the budgeting and forecasting process is extremely valuable, especially when compared to Excel."
"Oracle Hyperion is an advanced analytical calculation engine that can handle aggregation."
"Its major impact is that it reduced manual work since using Oracle Hyperion, and Oracle Hyperion data can now be updated, with data loads completed in 30 minutes."
"The scalability is good."
"Oracle Hyperion is an engine allowing you to build whatever you want on it."
"Smart View is a really useful tool because we can have a good API with HFM."
"It has helped us speed up the turnaround time on our consolidation. We don't have to do reporting in Excel anymore, which has cut down on the errors and the efficiency of our close time."
"I believe the ROI is very high."
"Planful has probably cut our time in half, given that we can now leverage the cloud-based services to interact with our subs for getting their forecast inputs."

Cons

"Occasionally, though, we get issues such as process hangs or something similar, although they're usually known bugs the fixes for which we can find in Oracle support fairly easily."
"Pricing is a significant concern. After moving to PBCS and EPBCS, the per-user license fees can be reduced, particularly for bulk users."
"Because my organization is complex and there are different data streams, they don't bolt into Hyperion very well."
"The support could be improved as service requests can sometimes take a very long time to be dealt with - we have some SRs that are a year old with no solution."
"We have missed deadlines because of that and I had to create some workarounds from my side."
"The biggest issue we have had for end users was that we lost control of functionality."
"Oracle support has a lot of room for improvement. Our requests for service, bug fixes, and new features take a long time."
"The reporting could be improved. It is challenging to do reporting on Oracle Hyperion if you're not an expert, and you may have to use an add-on to simplify it."
"Some of the behind the scenes processing for the simulation engines has a learning curve to use in that there are certain changes that need to happen for the reporting to be "Live"."
"The part that we liked about Excel is that it had a better interface in terms of just graphical illustration of our results. So, if we wanted to look at our financial trends and put it into some type of graphical interface for people to look at, we still have to leverage Excel for that. "Right now, everything is on a three-year term contract, and that is our main cost."
