Reliable backups and high-capacity data management have transformed large-scale census projects
When it comes to how Oracle Database can be improved, for me it is all about training and development in terms of gamification, creating awareness, and spreading the word to aspiring database administrators and database developers. As I have used it in the past and in recent times, many people are trying to get into IT, so the opportunity exists. Oracle has the market opportunity to take this time to spread its offerings and ensure that many aspiring professionals are aware of its services and products. From my perspective, there is not much to add regarding the needed improvements for the interface and the documentation. I give it a nine because I think Oracle sometimes can make things complicated. You have many services, many products, and many tools for different use cases. So it is difficult for someone who is only used to a particular product, such as Oracle Database, to understand all the other products and services that it provides. Probably streamlining it and making it available with categorized use cases for specific job roles would help. If you are a database developer, these are the tools that you need to be familiar with in Oracle's suite of products, and if you are a database administrator, these are the tools. Categorizing them based on the job role or function of people who are accessing these products and providing training capabilities on how to use them and how these products interchange and talk to each other would be very important because that is one of the things I struggled with when I started my journey as an Oracle Database administrator. Having that visibility of all the software products and providing free training and documentation on how you can improve and which products are best suited for integration to your product from Oracle would go a long way to help organizations and professionals. Regarding Oracle Database's AI capabilities, I am very keen on its governance and security. I think more work needs to be done on the security and ensuring that the database for a large number of people is watertight. AI is here to stay; however, governance and more stress testing of the AI capabilities needs to be done to ensure there is no breach of data. I would rate it currently at 6 over 10 and there is room for improvement. As long as there are government policies and Oracle policies that can mitigate any breaches of data and serious security issues, releasing people's records over the internet, there is always room for improvement in that regard.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most important features are container and pluggable database, as now we have more control on the resource level and can segregate our application based on the pluggable database to utilize the resources better."
"The performance of the solution is impeccable."
"The tool's most valuable feature is data encryption. The security features are good. They include field-level security, role-level security, and easy access controls."
"We've been mostly happy with the product."
"The scalability is very good, and it is stable."
"If you get Oracle Database set up right the first time, it'll run many years without any errors."
"Oracle is the number one product I recommend as long as the customer has sufficient budget."
"I use Oracle Database just for storage of the corporate database data and the finance data."
"A huge benefit of Tibero is its licensing costs are low."
"Tibero is very easy to setup and maintain."
"Tibero uses Hyper-Threading architecture, which is incredibly fast."
"Migration from Oracle to Tibero is very easy and it took us about ten minutes."
"Tibero is a relational database management system, which supports disaster recovery, active cluster, active storage, etc."
"Tibero has the mission to deliver reliable performance with a lower ownership cost."
"It is incredibly fast, much faster than Oracle in terms of compiling and processing speeds, very reliable and secure, never crashes or gets overloaded, the true data never gets falsified or corrupted, it is very easy to port your projects over, and it is considerably cheaper than any other software on the market."
"The most valuable feature is compatibility with the Oracle database."

Cons

"There are plenty of options and features in this solution, but they are, somehow, not being used very well. Therefore, training and support should be increased and improved for this solution. They can make people aware of how to make proper use of their server so that people can optimize it because its cost is just too much. They can provide training on the policies and procedures to be used for archiving and all such things. There should be some kind of segregation in licensing. With a full license, all options should be available. There should also be a basic license with limited functionalities. This kind of basic license would be useful for us because we don't use most of the functionalities."
"I don't like the user interface. I prefer to work with a console and proper lines, which, for me, is the easier way to operate Oracle DB."
"It takes a significant amount of time after submitting an initial SR with Oracle Tech Support before your case reaches a technical expert with whom you can actually work on the issue resolution. Before that, you have to deal with people who are not experts."
"Oracle does on occasion have a bad habit of developing a tool, I'll go back to Oracle 8 on Windows, they had a really cool little GUI for developing DBA and then it was gone a version later."
"An area for improvement would be query performance - in some cases, it's really, really hard to make it run faster."
"Oracle support takes a very long time to respond."
"Even if you have backup discs and never use Data Guard, you still have to pay for a license for it."
"The latest comparison to products like SAP HANA, and in-memory computing, and container computing, container-based database structures; these are the areas where I think there is good competition."
"There could be more user friendly FAQs online and included in the software."
"In PL/SQL code, there is a scope of improvement. We expect more PL/SQL packages should be included in the next release."
"The knowledge base is quite small and should be expanded."
"Manual installation is a bit tricky, but one can get used to it."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"You buy it initially, and then you pay for yearly support if you need support. If you don't need support, you can also use it without the support."
"Its price is a little bit high in terms of competitiveness. It is a little bit expensive. For any additional features, there are additional costs."
"Our licensing costs are between $40,000 and $50,000 per year. Those are the costs that cover maintenance and licensing."
"I can download Oracle Database and experiment with it on my own, as long as I'm not using it for commercial purposes. I can do it if I try it on my own."
"There is a license required for this solution and it is a little expensive."
"I do not have first-hand knowledge of the price of the support. However, I have heard from my seniors or the experienced people who work on the pricing and scaling, the price of Oracle is a bit higher. The reason is Oracle provides enterprise-level applications, only large enterprises can afford Oracle applications or tools."
"I rate Oracle Database's pricing a four out of ten."
"There are no licensing costs because the solution for me is open source."
"The price of Tibero is cheaper than that of Oracle."
"The overall costs are very low compared to Oracle."
