Enables us to save data for data projection but could improve its integration with other backup solutions
NetApp SnapCenter is highly efficient because it allows you to automate the creation of snapshots. Instead of manually creating snapshots using IMS or HMS, you can schedule and automate them, specifying the timing and frequency. This eliminates the need for daily manual intervention and streamlines the process. SnapCenter also enables you to assign specific user roles to manage these tasks, enhancing efficiency. SnapCenter ensures that your LPOs and RTOs are extremely quick. Although it may seem expensive initially, after using it for a while, you'll appreciate the efficiencies and gains it provides. I recommend the solution. Overall, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

Enhanced data retention and recovery with robust backup features
The Oracle Agent and Oracle RAC support are valuable features; they are crucial for taking backups and cloning applications. NetBackup Appliance has many features. Backup Exec is a great product as well. NetBackup is well-developed with strong features, including deduplication technology, which allows us to retain backups for longer periods—exceeding our expectations by keeping backups for almost a month. It's effective for data recovery and capable of handling large-scale data recoveries. It is very stable and keeps applications secure. However, the AI integration is not yet tested.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I like the instant backups and recovery feature that SnapCenter provides within NetApp storage systems."
"The support from NetApp is very good, and I would rate it as ten points."
"Restoring and cloning are easy to do."
"The initial setup was straightforward."
"The most valuable feature is the RBAC, the Role-Based Access Control. In our managed service, we can have different layers of security."
"It's a centralized, easy-to-use solution empowering RBAC management, monitoring, notifications, extensive logging, and backup schedules for standalone as well as groups of the same types of environments. The cloning capabilities accelerate development."
"Being able to add everything in as resource groups is a valuable feature... Having all the SQL servers put into specific buckets, based on their year of release - 2008, 2012, 2014 - allows us to get almost immediate backups that are easily seen and reported on."
"It has very fast backup and can handle a huge amount of data. It also enables really fast recovery."
"The reporting is very good compared to other tools."
"It’s quite scalable."
"The encryption feature is very good, the product itself and the new features are excellent, and it is pretty user-friendly compared to other software and very easy to deploy."
"I personally find Veritas NetBackup Applicance hassle-free."
"If you use the NetBackup Appliance you do not need to have separate media servers and hardware. You can configure the same storage as a media server and master server as well as a storage port. This helps to reduce the hardware costs of the media server."
"I recommend Veritas NetBackup Appliance as a great product worth exploring."
"There are a lot of new features that operate to protect the data from ransomware attacks. They launched the Veritas/Appliances to protect our data. Veritas has been doing its job well."
"The solution uses minimal resources."

Cons

"The UI, the User Interface, needs to be improved. It's not as clean or modern as it could be."
"I want to see a few more features add that will help our team in managing solution better."
"The product lags in terms of availability."
"My major issue is when I upgrade. I have to touch every last client that I have in SnapCenter, and right now I have 60... They said that in another release that will get better, but right now it's not better and I've had to do this three times."
"The replication feature needs improvement in future releases."
"The documentation could be a little bit better so that we could handle more of the troubleshooting ourselves, rather than having to go through support."
"What I did witness lately are issues with some Microsoft KBs, the updates. But it happened only once, and not on a major platform, it was on a small one."
"The GUI is still so-so. I' don't use the GUI that often anymore because it's really slow, refreshing disks, refreshing hosts, and you have to click a lot."
"This solution has to have better integration with the cloud, as well as with other solutions such as Business Intelligence products."
"The price could be a bit better."
"They could simplify the process of installing, and provide more space for data during the process."
"They need to make the licensing more clear. They should give all of the licensing details for the portals and be more clear. I have accidentally purchased the incorrect license because it's not clear."
"Figuring out pricing from the site is challenging because the initial pricing mentioned on the site is too high."
"The scalability isn't great. Every time you want to add storage, you can't just add a little bit, you need to add a lot."
"The tool's pricing is expensive and could be lower."
"I contacted their support once, and the process was slow, which discouraged further contact."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's free. The license is included with other NetApp products."
"Pricing is very good because if you already have NepApp controllers, then it's included."
"We see a financial value with SnapCenter because we don't have to license Commvault, which is pretty expensive."
"It comes free with the amount of equipment we purchase from NetApp. In terms of pricing, zero is my favorite number."
"We have a site license, so it comes with the product."
"The license for SnapCenter was included with the storage array."
"The product is inexpensive."
"The licensing is well-designed because it's already included in some packages with NetApp storage. Therefore, for most customers, it's okay as the SnapCenter license is already included in some NetApp bundles."
"I rate the solution's pricing a nine out of ten."
"Appliances do not come cheaply."
"I cannot say whether our licensing costs are on a monthly or annual basis, as we have a global contract."
"There is a license needed to use Veritas NetBackup Appliance and there are not any additional fees."
"The price of Veritas NetBackup Appliance is competitive. There are different models of Veritas NetBackup Appliance, such as perpetual licenses and subscriptions. Having the choice is good."
"The product's price is high."
"The licenses are purchased on appliances with the capacity they require."
"I rate the tool's pricing an eight out of ten."
