Cloud data management that achieves cost efficiency with advanced data protection features
I am currently using Nasuni for seismic data. We have a huge data size, and we want to reduce costs. Nasuni acts as a caching solution, so we put some data into the cache, and the rest goes to the blob, which helps us save on costs. We use it for applications like Petrol and Tech Log, where 3D…

Reduced manual monitoring and now gain real-time insight into agent behavior and governance
A specific scenario where Rubrik NAS Cloud Direct was really helpful in my environment is that since we are using it for a long time, it provides us a well for monitoring and governance for the workflows we use in the current project. What stands out is the amount of context available on the agent actions rather than simply generating another security alert. It focuses and gives us a report including continuous monitoring with evaluation, policy enforcement, and remediation. Rubrik NAS Cloud Direct's Sage engine is designed to prevent and provide intent-based governance for the agent actions. This is why we are using it and this is how it is helping. Rubrik NAS Cloud Direct offers multiple important features, but the most important feature which I love is the agent monitor which allows us to automatically discover the agents and gives us visibility into their activity in real time. The second is the agent inventory and risk profiling, which helps us identify which agents are active in real time and which ones require closer attention. Additionally, one of the features that helps us is data and identity visibility, allowing us to see what information an agent is accessing and which identity it interacts with. Moreover, the immutable audit trail is very useful when investigating why an agent performs a particular action. Rubrik NAS Cloud Direct's agent monitor has made my work easier and more efficient, as it is very useful when we have to see the overall agentic monitor of the organization. To understand it better, we can just go there and check what is the activity, how many agents are active, who is working, and who is misbehaving. Sometimes they take commands from other agents, which is not expected. It gives us clarity over the agents and also helps us create proper ROI reports, ensuring that the agents are performing in the right direction with minimal cost.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"One of Nasuni's best characteristics is its fully redundant system; we don't have to shift tapes or use other backup solutions. It's a good, full-featured product."
"The ability to access anywhere, the ease of deployment, and the security are the most valuable features."
"Nasuni reduced our overall storage footprint at our sites by 70 to 80 percent."
"Nasuni has helped decrease capital costs by 66% since we don’t need to buy as much excess capacity."
"Nasuni is tremendously easy to manage. It eliminates many of the administrative challenges associated with physical hardware storage, and you don't need to worry about any hardware failure or products reaching the end of their lives."
"Another helpful feature, in addition to restoring a file that was deleted within 24 to 48 hours, is that we have the ability to restore a file or a folder that was deleted, going all the way back to the inception of that file or folder. That means we actually have unlimited backups to the inception point of data with Nasuni."
"The nice thing about Nasuni storage is that it is immutable. This means the data is only written once. So, you never modify the files. When you write a file out to the storage, it doesn't modify it when you change it. The technology knows how to figure out what the difference is between the original file write and what the changes are. Therefore, it only saves the changes."
"The solution gives us a breakdown and summary of every resource and each volume within every resource. It tells us the code within a given volume, so I can go in there and look at the size of the files that are stored there. Nasuni gives me the big picture and allows me to connect things like Power BI to any endpoint. I can take that tabular information from Nasuni and look at it in a graph."
"Rubrik NAS Cloud Direct has improved my organization with secured backups, and even in case of attacks, we are safe with respect to the backup data we have."
"Rubrik NAS Cloud Direct has positively impacted my organization by showing at least a seventy to eighty percent reduction in manual effort for agent monitoring and investigating, which is exceptional."

Cons

"It would be helpful to have more built-in analytics tools to compare the storage costs between the various cloud providers. I would also like some graphing capabilities. We had a tool called Grafana that we used for graphing. I think some more visual analytics like that would be nice."
"Nasuni recently implemented a health system for filers. However, it needs better visibility because it lacks data and an explanation, or reasoning as to why a particular filer may be unhealthy."
"The only issue we face with Nasuni is from the performance perspective. Sometimes, when we deploy a Nasuni device, it doesn't meet our requirements. It's a capacity-planning issue."
"When we first set up our bandwidth limiting, we had a few problems when it came to managing it. This is something that could be made easier; however, we were able to make the changes that we needed to for our environment."
"We forecasted that the data at my client's organization would grow by about ten percent annually, but we are migrating more data because we are bringing in some servers that had not previously been within the scope of our license. We expected it would take us two years to reach a specific amount of data, but we hit that mark in one year. The licensing cost skyrocketed, so we need to renegotiate. It puts us in a bind because we are reliant on Nasuni for our service strategy. We can't deny our customers, but we also struggle to pay for that."
"The privilege settings need to be more granular, and alerts are an excellent example. If a user doesn't have access to them, they can't see them and access information such as what they may have done wrong, what's there, and when the last sync happened. However, the ability to view alerts also comes with permission to delete them, which is not good, so we need more customization options here."
"As administrators, we are used to having control equal to managing an on-prem device. In terms of log analysis and other things we want to do, Nasuni has some limitations limitation on what you do on the Nasuni. Nasuni could add some features to the GUI that make administration a little easier. It's tough when I have to move from one filter to another because there is no way to search it. We have to scroll up and down to find the name of it."
"Its interface design or the graphic user interface design can be slightly tweaked in some areas. Some built-in setup wizards would be very beneficial. Rather than having to go in and configure it by hand, there should be more setup wizards for onboarding new data shares and getting it set up the way you want. I don't know if these are on their roadmap, but I sat down and talked to them about some of the work concerns, some of the things that we liked, and some of the things that we didn't like. They are probably working on that."
"In terms of stability, Rubrik NAS Cloud Direct is still not stable as it is evolving, so I would give it a seven or eight."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"They could lower the cost, but it saves so much money when you go into it (by losing all the backup)."
"There are cheaper forms of storage, but Nasuni is fairly priced for the functionality it offers. I can get basic file shares provisioned in Azure and pay for the storage and the CPU. The overall cost would be much less than Nasuni, but I would need to build the management console and encryption process, so it would cost a lot to develop that kind of functionality."
"It has a license fee as well as hardware costs, which we would incur if we want to use Nasuni Cloud Storage Gateway for upgrades."
"The pricing is on par with everybody else, and fair."
"With this solution, the license renewal is pretty swift. With the virtual appliance, you just need to take care of the OS versions and patches. In a way, we don't have to struggle much with renewals because the only thing that we need to take care of are the licenses. We renew it every three years. This aspect goes with infrastructural costs because it doesn't cost us too much to maintain the solution."
"I would not say it is economically priced, but it is affordable. If you can afford to pay for it, it is worth the money, but it is definitely not overpriced. It is priced about where it needs to be in the market. We were satisfied with the way they did their licensing and how they handled it. I believe they actually license by data size. It is based on how much data is being held on the machine and replicated, and that's completely understandable. So, for us, their pricing was as expected and affordable."
"Its price is fair and reasonable. I don't have anything negative about its pricing and licensing. For us, there is also the cost of monitoring. We are monitoring through Xenos and not through Nasuni. That is another cost for us from the monitoring perspective, but as far as Nasuni goes, we don't have any other cost apart from the licensing fee."
"The cost is based on the capacity, which is approximately $100 USD per terabyte."
