Has improved disaster recovery with seamless server replication and reduced operational costs
NAKIVO Backup & Replication has been useful; in terms of licensing, it is way cheaper than other solutions, and setting it up in terms of implementation was easier and not difficult to do. The user interface is friendly and straightforward to use. The best features NAKIVO Backup & Replication offers in my experience include the VMware replication jobs, which allow us to schedule the replication of servers at specific times and move them as quickly as possible. The Change Block Technology (CBT) aspect helps us check if data has really moved without even turning on the server, by just looking at the reports that have been sent, making it a beneficial feature. NAKIVO Backup & Replication has positively impacted our organization by providing much cheaper pricing compared to other solutions, which means we have saved more money, and integrating it with our solution, the VMware vSphere, is not challenging.

Offers zero-touch or zero-intervention aspects, stable and easy to setup
Inside the console, when you change something in the computer collection, there's no history or log showing what's been done. For example, if I add or remove a domain controller from the compare collection, the console doesn't record the time or the user who made the change. This makes it difficult to manage the console, especially for auditing purposes. It lacks login capability within Recovery Manager for Active Directory. This means if I delegate tasks to a level two or an interim level three technician, and they make a mistake, it's difficult to track. Ideally, I'd like to monitor who makes changes within the console to ensure proper management. Currently, that kind of capability isn't available.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It uses all the bandwidth available if not limited and backs up entire servers with all data about four times faster than Windows Server Backup and EaseUS TODO Backup."
"The ability to create a replica of all virtual machines is a great feature."
"Nakivo Backup and Replication's web-based management interface enables intuitive, rapid, and seamless configuration and management of all backup and recovery functionality across the enterprise."
"NAKIVO is easy to use and pretty easy to set up."
"It is easy to manage all of the individual backup jobs, check the status every day, and it can even send an email to keep us informed."
"We have been able to set up a failover site that has replicas of our critical VMs."
"It is affordable."
"The solution offers reliable copying and fast recovery."
"I like the zero-touch or zero-intervention aspect the most when it comes to performing a forest restoration (FOHO). It is really automated. If you set everything correctly, it will restore your forest without any manual steps."
"Our impression of the solution for providing a clean, malware-free recovery and protecting our AD backups from compromise is that it is probably one of the best options available."
"The feature that automates most of the tasks is the most valuable since you do not have to worry about making sure that you follow the steps one by one manually during a disaster."

Cons

"Right now we know that Nakivo has the ability to back up as an incremental process and restore backups across several criteria. However, it would be good if we had the ability to backup a system like PostgreSQL."
"An improvement would be to give us more control over the email alerts, with different emails going to different addresses based on a set of rules."
"I would like to have a built-in SNMP client, which is important if we want to monitor it using Zabbix, Nagios, or another monitoring solution."
"In the future, it would be nice to have support for Zimbra email, Collabora Office, and the NextCloud content collaboration platform."
"When you schedule some jobs, you should be able to see a list of the jobs contained within each. You have to open up the editor to see what is inside. You must click through and edit stuff. Each time, it asks you to save or discard changes. It's very annoying. You only see the name of the scheduled job, and you need to edit it to see what's it's inside."
"They had given a feature of real-time replication which they stopped in NAKIVO."
"I would love to see compatibility with KVM Backup."
"An improvement would be to include a general data backup solution that is not only for virtual machines."
"Inside the console, when you change something in the computer collection, there's no history or log showing what's been done. For example, if I add or remove a domain controller from the compare collection, the console doesn't record the time or the user who made the change. This makes it difficult to manage the console, especially for auditing purposes. It lacks login capability within Recovery Manager for Active Directory."
"I identified a gap with their Recovery Manager for AD Forest Edition. That software can't recover for us if we have a complete malware/ransomware-type scenario where we lose all our domain controllers. If you lose the entire forest, you can't get it back up with the Forest Edition. You have to use their Disaster Recovery Edition."
"One of the things they can do is give the user the ability to skip the prechecks and verifications."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The prices are high."
"The pricing, setup costs, and licensing are easy to understand, no matter how you want to implement it."
"Nakivo is cheaper per machine and per backup."
"Talk to the sales department about all of the possibilities, as they will help you to find the best solution for your setup."
"From the perspective of Indian users, the cost is a little bit high."
"The price is not a problem in NAKIVO, as it is the most competitive in the market."
"The licensing model is very affordable compared to competitors, with a good quality-to-cost ratio, and the software is quite simple and fast to setup."
"It's really cheap, and our company saves a significant amount of money on IT backup solutions per year."
"Comparing it to other vendors, it seems to be affordable. So, it is worth the money."
