Robust data protection has safeguarded mailboxes and disaster recovery for our clients
NAKIVO Backup & Replication has released many updates lately and at this point it works excellently. Needs will always appear, particularly around the AI topic and other things that come out over time. I understand that solutions always have to keep moving forward, but so far I see it as excellent.I give it a nine because nothing is perfect. There are always solutions, and NAKIVO Backup & Replication is a tool that adapts perfectly to certain needs. However, we cannot dismiss that there are powerful solutions on the market that have been around for much longer. I rate it a nine because we can always improve.

Good automation and worth the money with helpful disaster recovery
The initial setup requires a design and engineering phase. You can't just pick the product and click next, next, finish - especially if you're planning on making sure that it's going to be available during a disaster. It does require sitting down and designing it. So it's not like a home-use product that you can just go and install and start using it with no consequence.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We really appreciate the simplicity of the solution."
"The simplicity of Nakivo is its best feature; it does exactly what it should, which is to create restorable backups!"
"The back-up and restore functions work great and it's easy to use."
"The most valuable feature is the ease of creating a backup copy job to get the backups to a second device."
"They reply immediately to any query raised from us as a technician or consultant and they know the pulse of the market and keep updating the features in such a big way."
"Nakivo is a simple-to-use alternative to other more costly vSphere backup alternatives."
"This enables us to do quick granular file recovery as and when required but also to do whole-site relocation in the case of a total loss scenario."
"The product license and support delivery have been great!"
"I like the zero-touch or zero-intervention aspect the most when it comes to performing a forest restoration (FOHO). It is really automated. If you set everything correctly, it will restore your forest without any manual steps."
"Our impression of the solution for providing a clean, malware-free recovery and protecting our AD backups from compromise is that it is probably one of the best options available."
"The feature that automates most of the tasks is the most valuable since you do not have to worry about making sure that you follow the steps one by one manually during a disaster."

Cons

"Some VM backup jobs hang periodically and cannot be stopped, except by restarting the Nakivo Director node."
"There has been a slight tendency to bloat, where each new feature uses slightly more resources."
"In the next release, it would be good to have ability/feature to backup only Oracle database from the Linux OS beside backing up whole VM."
"I would love to see compatibility with KVM Backup."
"It is missing the file and folder backup; however, this product is meant for virtual machine backup and recovery, so that is really outside of the scope of the software."
"There is a lack of native (web-based) update functionality."
"I would like to have the option of creating a subfolder per job in the backup repository because we had an issue where some files were corrupted and we lost the backup of the majority of the VMs."
"They had given a feature of real-time replication which they stopped in NAKIVO. When we wanted to sell, they backed out, and currently, it is not available across platforms."
"Inside the console, when you change something in the computer collection, there's no history or log showing what's been done. For example, if I add or remove a domain controller from the compare collection, the console doesn't record the time or the user who made the change. This makes it difficult to manage the console, especially for auditing purposes. It lacks login capability within Recovery Manager for Active Directory."
"One of the things they can do is give the user the ability to skip the prechecks and verifications."
"I identified a gap with their Recovery Manager for AD Forest Edition. That software can't recover for us if we have a complete malware/ransomware-type scenario where we lose all our domain controllers. If you lose the entire forest, you can't get it back up with the Forest Edition. You have to use their Disaster Recovery Edition."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product is quite cheap compared to other products on the market, but despite this, it is rich in features both at the level of backup and recovery as well as at the level of additional options."
"You have a lot of different options when it comes to pricing and the pricing models are pretty flexible and affordable."
"I advise that this is the best product for medium or small environments according to my cost-benefit analysis."
"Nakivo is cheaper per machine and per backup."
"We use a perpetual license that is priced well."
"Pricing is easy to understand and very affordable."
"This product provides good value for the price."
"This product is cheaper than other big rivals."
"Comparing it to other vendors, it seems to be affordable. So, it is worth the money."
