Robust data protection has safeguarded mailboxes and disaster recovery for our clients
NAKIVO Backup & Replication has released many updates lately and at this point it works excellently. Needs will always appear, particularly around the AI topic and other things that come out over time. I understand that solutions always have to keep moving forward, but so far I see it as excellent.I give it a nine because nothing is perfect. There are always solutions, and NAKIVO Backup & Replication is a tool that adapts perfectly to certain needs. However, we cannot dismiss that there are powerful solutions on the market that have been around for much longer. I rate it a nine because we can always improve.

Good automation and worth the money with helpful disaster recovery
The initial setup requires a design and engineering phase. You can't just pick the product and click next, next, finish - especially if you're planning on making sure that it's going to be available during a disaster. It does require sitting down and designing it. So it's not like a home-use product that you can just go and install and start using it with no consequence.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Nakivo gives users confidence in knowing that if something happens with their application server, exchange server, or other applications, they can recover it easily and quickly."
"The Nakivo solution provided us with the ability to do automatic scheduled app-aware backups with great deduplication and compression, so they don't overload our local area network and don't require a lot of storage space."
"It is a cost-effective solution with an easy-to-configure user-friendly interface."
"The user interface in general is very good. I"
"After weeks of working with Veeam support without any success, I can say it was worth every Euro spent since I have a working solution and can sleep better."
"Backup jobs are running smoothly every day with job reports sent to email after they finish each job, and that gives us peace of mind."
"The ability to use a variety of cloud providers rather than being tied into one is a huge bonus."
"They reply immediately to any query raised from us as a technician or consultant and they know the pulse of the market and keep updating the features in such a big way."
"The feature that automates most of the tasks is the most valuable since you do not have to worry about making sure that you follow the steps one by one manually during a disaster."
"Our impression of the solution for providing a clean, malware-free recovery and protecting our AD backups from compromise is that it is probably one of the best options available."
"I like the zero-touch or zero-intervention aspect the most when it comes to performing a forest restoration (FOHO). It is really automated. If you set everything correctly, it will restore your forest without any manual steps."

Cons

"One of the things I liked least about this software is when an update was pushed to one of the servers we had, somehow we didn't receive the update and needed some quick troubleshooting."
"Some VM backup jobs hang periodically and cannot be stopped, except by restarting the Nakivo Director node."
"There is a lack of native (web-based) update functionality. To update the Linux appliance, you need to download a script and run commands from SSH. This is unacceptable."
"We'd like to see a legacy environment backup, like AIX, etc."
"While the solution provides mostly what we need, it would be ideal if there were some additional feature capabilities for the API."
"Integrations maybe helpful for NAKIVO. I think end-to-end backup and user backup will be useful to have. The price could be reduced as well. I also think that AD integration should be more available."
"I give it a nine because nothing is perfect."
"I had to manually install SNMP, which wasn't hard, but a step I had to take, to plug this into the monitoring system."
"I identified a gap with their Recovery Manager for AD Forest Edition. That software can't recover for us if we have a complete malware/ransomware-type scenario where we lose all our domain controllers. If you lose the entire forest, you can't get it back up with the Forest Edition. You have to use their Disaster Recovery Edition."
"Inside the console, when you change something in the computer collection, there's no history or log showing what's been done. For example, if I add or remove a domain controller from the compare collection, the console doesn't record the time or the user who made the change. This makes it difficult to manage the console, especially for auditing purposes. It lacks login capability within Recovery Manager for Active Directory."
"One of the things they can do is give the user the ability to skip the prechecks and verifications."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We use a perpetual license that is priced well."
"I advise that this is the best product for medium or small environments according to my cost-benefit analysis."
"I think the price is competitive. However, for some projects, it can be a bit much for price-sensitive small businesses."
"This product is cheaper than other big rivals."
"From the perspective of Indian users, the cost is a little bit high."
"This product provides good value for the price."
"It has a much higher bang for the buck than other products we evaluated."
"Pricing is easy to understand and very affordable."
"Comparing it to other vendors, it seems to be affordable. So, it is worth the money."
