We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The backup and recovery are the most valuable features. So, our developers can work with confidence.""The recovery time is fantastic and proven. Also, by providing a simple interface, the solution lowers the cost.""Provides easy, one-click functionality and flexible backup policies and schedules for AWS workloads.""The backup and restore functionality is very easy to use and manage.""The most valuable feature is the ease of use.""The product is successful with the SMB market.""N2WS Backup & Recovery is very easy to use and configure backup for AWS instances.""The initial setup is easy."

"The good thing about NetApp is the features that are available on the cloud are also available on-premises.""Its functionality and technical support are adequate to help prevent failure due to errors.""The most valuable feature is its exceptional performance and storage efficiency.""We use the mirroring to mirror our volumes to our DR location. We also create snapshots for backups. Snapshots will create a specified snapshot to be able to do a DR test without disrupting our standard mirrors. That means we can create a point-in-time snapshot, then use the ability of FlexClones to make a writeable volume to test with, and then blow it away after the DR test.""The solution’s Snapshot copies and thin clones in terms of operational recovery are the best thing since sliced bread. Rollback is super easy. It's just simple, and it works. It's very efficient.""The most valuable features are that it's reliable, simple, and performs well.""The solution’s unified file and block-storage access across our infrastructure is invaluable. Without it, we can't do what we do.""If anything happens, their technical support will come onsite and fix it."

Cons
"The solution has the option to take backup on-prem servers, but it's not very efficient.""The GUI could be slightly improved.""There is room for improvement in stability.""The UI is a little dated and hard to use. Some of the buttons are a bit small. You have to go into the menu to get the settings you want.""Additional features I would like to see are the ability to restore to different vendors, AWS and Azure, and/or the ability or take the information out of the AWS cloud.""It's a global feature that the customer thinks they don't have enough tools to manage, to copy, to delay, and to classify the object file in the backup directory. So they need more tools to manage files in object directory.""The GUI has room for improvement.""More documentation would be helpful, especially some step-by-step documents for recovery scenarios."

"The support is good in general but the initial, front-line support could be improved. Because I have already been using the product for so long, when I call support I would rather talk to somebody who is a little bit more advanced or senior, rather than talking to the first-level support. Usually, it takes some time to reach out to their senior support.""We are getting a warning alert about not being able to connect to Cloud Manager when we log into it. The support has provided links, but this particular issue is not fixed yet.""We have used technical support. As long as they don't call me at four o'clock in the morning to tell me that a drive failed and they are sending me another one, I like it. They have a tendency to do that.""In the next release, I would like to see more options on the dashboard.""The solution is not stable when using single nodes. This is a problem. NetApp should work on this solution to make it more stable with HA nodes and resolve this issue.""It definitely needs improvement with respect to clustering and with respect to more collaborative integrations with Azure. Right now, we have very limited functionalities with Azure, except for storage. If CVO could be integrated with Azure that would help. When there is any sort of maintenance happening in the cloud, it disrupts the service in Cloud Volumes ONTAP.""There is room for improvement in tier one support, especially with potential language barriers and communication challenges.""I would like to see more information about Cloud Volumes ONTAP using Google Cloud Platform on NetApp's website."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The purchasing process through the AWS Marketplace is easy. Just click the button."
  • "The pricing and licensing on AWS is fine, because you can do it for smaller tiers depending on your number of instances, so it's not that scary."
  • "AWS adds more features and offer things for free, or cheaply. Therefore, we will be evaluating AWS Data Lifecycle Manager, because it will probably do backups. Thus, make sure the product that you are using is competitive or adds more value than AWS."
  • "It's very economical and worth the cost."
  • "It has very good pricing per instance and comes with three options, for both small and large environments, to fit your needs."
  • "The price is not cheap, nor is it costly."

  • "Purchasing through the AWS Marketplace was good, but it was a test system, not a real purchase."
  • "We purchased the product directly from NetApp."
  • "The deal with the seller was acceptable; the pricing is reasonable."
  • "The AWS consumer-based pricing model makes it easy for developers to use their credit cards to spin up virtual servers immediately."
  • "Compared to other storage vendors, NetApp, is not always able to compete with their pricing. Yet, we acknowledge the ease of use ONTAP brings with the AWS integration."
  • "They allow a special price if you are working closely with them. Since we have a lot of NetApp systems, we got some kind of discount. That's something they do for other customers, not just for us. The price was fair. In addition to the licensing fees, you're paying Amazon for your usage..."
  • "The standard pricing is online. Pricing depends. If you're using the PayGo model, then it's just the normal costs on the Microsoft page. If you're using Bring Your Own License, which is what we're doing, then you get with your sales contact at NetApp and start figuring out what price is the best, in the end, for your company."
  • "In addition to the standard licensing fees, there are fees for Azure, the VMs themselves and for data transfer."
