Provides flexible data handling and integrates easily but requires less frequent patch releases
Microsoft Parallel Data Warehouse keeps giving updates and new features. In my first consultancy, I transitioned a mortgage company from Oracle OBIEE to Microsoft Parallel Data Warehouse to greatly reduce the mortgage approval time. There's a feature that allows users to set alerts on triggers within reports, enabling timely actions on pending applications and effectively reducing waiting time. It extracts data from the ERP system, and we are doing extensive data analytics. The system handles target marketing for a company which does 85 to 90% of its business in wholesale. We have a variety of clients from mom-and-pop stores to big box stores, and we have intermediaries. We sell through approximately 13 retail channels including Etsy, our retail website, Faire, Wayfair, and Walmart. Each channel requires different types of inventory updates and packaging, which is managed automatically. A significant amount of development is done on Microsoft Parallel Data Warehouse where all these processes are automatically fed out and updated. We also conduct inventory analysis and aging analysis. We identify seasonal buyers, track their purchasing habits, and auto-trigger campaigns for them, sometimes offering discounts on various items. We've found that combining top-selling items with non-selling items can lead to increased sales, as people often buy additional items when they find one on sale.

Provides self-repair features, but the setup is complex
We use the product for online applications. We use it in the financial industry The product has self-repair features. The tool tunes itself. It separates compute from storage. We can scale storage and compute separately. The setup is complex. Oracle is a complex tool. I have been using Oracle…

"I am very satisfied with the customer service/technical support."
"I'm very pro Microsoft because I think Microsoft products are highly intuitive and are widely used."
"Data collection and reporting are valuable features of the solution."
"The solution's integration is good."
"It is not a pricey product compared to other data warehouse solutions."
"We have complete control over our data."
"It is a stable solution...It is a scalable solution."
"It is an extremely scalable solution since you can dynamically change the resources as some other cloud solutions."
"With Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse, things are much simpler. Creating a structure, initializing the servers, extending the servers, those are all things that are very, very easy. That's the main reason we use it."
"The solution has a self-backup, so you don't need a DBA (database administrator) to do a backup."
"I loved the simplicity of loading the data and simply relying on the self-tuning capabilities of ADW."
"Self-patching and runs machine-learning across its logs all the time"
"The performance and scalability are awesome."
"A very good integration feature that restricts access to unauthorized people."
"The product has self-repair features."

Cons

"A major issue is with table statistics. Sometimes the statistics are not refreshed correctly, which causes issues for us."
"The patch releases are a concern. For a customer with tons of servers, frequent patches lead to required reboots, which interrupts business."
"Microsoft Parallel Data Warehouse is excellent but very expensive. Working on the pricing could make it a better solution."
"When there are many users or many expensive queries, it can be very slow."
"The ETL designing process could be optimized for better efficiency."
"They need to incorporate a machine learning engine."
"Sometimes, the product requires rolling back to its previous version during a software update. This particular area could be enhanced."
"Concurrent queries are limited to 32, making it more of a data storage mechanism instead of an active DWH solution."
"The solution lacks visibility options."
"I would like to see Application Express and Oracle R Enterprise fully supported, and I would like to see Oracle Data Mining supported as a front end."
"My main suggestion for Oracle is the configuration and key values that come for JSON files. When we create a table, especially if you see in our RedShift or some other stuff, if I create a table on top of a JSON file with multiple array columns or superset columns, those column values create some difficulty in Oracle."
"I would like to see an on-premise solution in the future."
"An improvement for us would be the inclusion of support for an internal IP, so we could use it directly with the VCN in Oracle Cloud."
"Sometimes the solution works differently between the cloud and on-premises. It needs to be more consistent and predictable."
"Optimization should be better."
"Ease of connectivity could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The tool could be expensive if we need to manage a lot of data."
"Technical support is an additional fee and is expensive."
"The solution is cost-effective."
"The solution's pricing is fairly decent for organizations with huge data sizes."
"All the features that we use do not require any additional subscription or yearly fees."
"Microsoft has an agreement with the government in our country, so our customers get their licensing costs from the Ministry. Whenever we work with any government, company, or government institute, which is mainly what we are doing, that license comes directly from the Ministry of Technology and Information."
"They offer an annual subscription. The pricing depends on the size of the environments."
"I think the program is well-priced compared to the other offerings that are out in the market."
"The price depends on the configuration we choose."
"Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse's pricing is fair and reasonable compared to the other cloud vendors."
"In terms of architecture and pricing structure, I feel it is a little bit costly compared to Azure. It's fine compared to RedShift, but compared to Azure, it's a bit pricey when you calculate for one TB storage plus around five hours of reporting with the frequency of 1TB data. The cost adds up, making Oracle a bit expensive."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is a low price and ten is a high price, I rate the pricing an eight."
"We pay approximately $70,000 per month. The cost includes maintenance and support."
"The solution's cost is reasonable."
"Cloud solutions are cheaper, but in the long run, they may not be much cheaper. They certainly have a lower initial cost. The licensing is yearly, and it is based on the size of the hardware and the number of users."
"You pay as you go, and you don't pay for services that you don't use."
