Layered security has protected sensitive data and supports compliance across storage environments
There are always areas for improvement for MetaDefender Storage Security. One common challenge is the performance impact, especially when dealing with large volumes of data. Some users have reported that the scanning process can occasionally slow down storage access times, particularly in high-traffic environments. Another area for improvement is the complexity of configuration. Some users find that fine-tuning the policies and integrating it with existing infrastructure can sometimes be a bit complex and time-consuming. Additionally, while the multi-scanning feature is a huge plus, it can sometimes lead to compatibility issues with certain file types or custom applications. Ongoing updates and ensuring compatibility is key. Finally, user feedback sometimes points to the need for more streamlined reporting dashboards, making it easier to quickly identify and address potential threats. Overall, these are relatively minor challenges compared to the benefits, but they do provide areas for future enhancements. One area that could be enhanced in MetaDefender Storage Security is even more streamlined integration with a wider range of third-party security tools and SIEM platforms. That would help create a more unified security ecosystem. Another improvement could be more advanced machine learning capabilities to detect zero-day threats and sophisticated malware patterns, making the detection even more proactive. Improving the user interface and making the reporting dashboards even more intuitive could help security teams get quicker insights and take action faster. Additionally, better scalability and performance optimizations for very large data environments would be great, ensuring that performance remains smooth even as data volumes grow. Overall, these enhancements would just make it even more robust and user-friendly.

Data management and availability improve operations, but cost and support need attention
For snapshots, there should be something similar to a recycle bin. When someone mistakenly deletes a snapshot, it should be stored for about two days before disappearing from the system. Regarding storage optimization, when purchasing a 10 terabyte disk, after formatting, you can only use approximately 8 terabytes. They should improve this so users can utilize 90% instead of 80% of the disk space. The support response needs improvement, especially for P1 cases. When critical cases are raised, they should ensure they call the customer and follow up properly. Comparing NetApp ONTAP to other solutions such as EMC, the cost of contract renewals and warranties is relatively expensive. They should extend their renewal window beyond the current six months to one year options. A longer warranty period of two years for new systems, controllers, or filers would be beneficial. Overall, they should reduce subscription costs for businesses.

Pros

"MetaDefender Storage Security offers robust protection for storage infrastructure, data safety, and compliance, integrating seamlessly to safeguard against threats, making it an excellent choice for businesses handling sensitive information."
"Overall, any industry dealing with sensitive or regulated data can benefit from the robust multi-layer protection that MetaDefender Storage Security promotes."
"Implementing MetaDefender Storage Security has definitely reduced incidents like malware attacks and data loss incidents."
"Scalability is good. Now that we have the ability to add more nodes to the cluster, it's better. It allows us to grill our clusters allowing them to be larger and faster, without having to buy a whole new system."
"Its typical use case is storing files and getting data, so it does its use case well."
"The interface is very user-friendly. There are new features, including analytics that provide insights when you log in. The dashboard is very intuitive."
"It has been amazingly easy for us to use."
"It has the ability to bring up disaster recovery quickly."
"From a storage standpoint, NetApp is the number one partner and the number one equipment manufacturer."
"The ability to spin up copies of data in other data centers, on other storage appliances, is the most valuable for us."
"There are more than one features that I appreciate, but what I appreciate the most about it is the ease of management of the volumes."

Cons

"I wish to see a daily malware signature update feature in the future for MetaDefender Storage Security that updates the current malware signatures automatically."
"One of the most frequently seen common challenges organizations face when implementing MetaDefender Storage Security is that the integration process into the existing infrastructure is complex."
"Improvements that could be made to MetaDefender Storage Security, based on feedback from technical staff, include better daily malware signature updates for automatic current malware signature updates and an improved integration process across complex infrastructures."
"The support response needs improvement, especially for P1 cases. When critical cases are raised, they should ensure they call the customer and follow up properly."
"The setup can be a bit complex, depending on the environment."
"The only thing that they have to improve in NetApp is that they're still relying on padding each node in active/active in CDOT. That has to go away. They should look at the scalability on a platform level. The computer will have that one file system with multiple nodes on it. If even one node fails, any node in that cluster could take over the functionalities. But today, it absolutely relies on that active-active uncoupling it. That needs to be improved in such a way that it would be one namespace. If this node goes down, any node in the cluster should take over and run that environment."
"The vendor diagnostics, which allows for movement from one vendor to another vendor using the application technology that is available. It should be able to talk to any vendor, not just NetApp to NetApp. We should be able to replicate the data, so the next feature should not be vendor specific."
"They could make the access a bit easier."
"The config could be a little easier. It's not entirely difficult, but it could be a somewhat easier. I have seen other vendors make it easier."
"If you do the initial setup manually, it is a bit difficult for someone who doesn't know."
"For me, it is an ideal solution. There isn't any area that needs urgent improvements because the interface is very intuitive, and the solution is robust. However, if the integration with legacy applications was simpler, it would be great."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The licensing prices are really high."
"This solution has helped our organization reduce our overall cost of storage. We're part of the NetApp OnDemand, where we lease it. Also, it doesn't take as many people to administer the solution as some other products."
"It's very expensive."
"It's not an all inclusive model. You have the option to purchase modules to make the entire ecosystem coherent. I would like the option to pay one price and get everything all inclusive, like OnCommand."
"With other vendors, we need to buy a separate license for a third-party storage, but with NetApp, you don't need to buy a license, as it will come up with the storage."
"ONTAP has helped us reduce the cost of storage by a lot. We were using IBM XIVs and were paying high costs, except for the maintenance. Now, we are on all-flash and we pay less than what we used to pay."
"The data compression and deduplication have kept us from buying more disks these past three years."
"NetApp provided the features required within our cost limit."
