Layered security has protected sensitive data and supports compliance across storage environments
There are always areas for improvement for MetaDefender Storage Security. One common challenge is the performance impact, especially when dealing with large volumes of data. Some users have reported that the scanning process can occasionally slow down storage access times, particularly in high-traffic environments. Another area for improvement is the complexity of configuration. Some users find that fine-tuning the policies and integrating it with existing infrastructure can sometimes be a bit complex and time-consuming. Additionally, while the multi-scanning feature is a huge plus, it can sometimes lead to compatibility issues with certain file types or custom applications. Ongoing updates and ensuring compatibility is key. Finally, user feedback sometimes points to the need for more streamlined reporting dashboards, making it easier to quickly identify and address potential threats. Overall, these are relatively minor challenges compared to the benefits, but they do provide areas for future enhancements. One area that could be enhanced in MetaDefender Storage Security is even more streamlined integration with a wider range of third-party security tools and SIEM platforms. That would help create a more unified security ecosystem. Another improvement could be more advanced machine learning capabilities to detect zero-day threats and sophisticated malware patterns, making the detection even more proactive. Improving the user interface and making the reporting dashboards even more intuitive could help security teams get quicker insights and take action faster. Additionally, better scalability and performance optimizations for very large data environments would be great, ensuring that performance remains smooth even as data volumes grow. Overall, these enhancements would just make it even more robust and user-friendly.

Data management and availability improve operations, but cost and support need attention
For snapshots, there should be something similar to a recycle bin. When someone mistakenly deletes a snapshot, it should be stored for about two days before disappearing from the system. Regarding storage optimization, when purchasing a 10 terabyte disk, after formatting, you can only use approximately 8 terabytes. They should improve this so users can utilize 90% instead of 80% of the disk space. The support response needs improvement, especially for P1 cases. When critical cases are raised, they should ensure they call the customer and follow up properly. Comparing NetApp ONTAP to other solutions such as EMC, the cost of contract renewals and warranties is relatively expensive. They should extend their renewal window beyond the current six months to one year options. A longer warranty period of two years for new systems, controllers, or filers would be beneficial. Overall, they should reduce subscription costs for businesses.

Pros

"Implementing MetaDefender Storage Security has definitely reduced incidents like malware attacks and data loss incidents."
"Overall, any industry dealing with sensitive or regulated data can benefit from the robust multi-layer protection that MetaDefender Storage Security promotes."
"We can recover data quickly. We are able to failover to remote sites. We can do that within minutes."
"It gives us a location to store data across multiple mount points."
"We are able to minimize the storage hardware. The compression and deduplication have helped reduce our overall cost of storage."
"We have been using it for our entire environment, so we use it in file shares and in our VDI environment, at least for user data. That has reduced our user login times by about 50 percent."
"Its usability, scalability, and dependability are very good."
"With ONTAP, we have peace of mind with double-parity protector RAID systems. Therefore, we can sleep well at the night, not thinking about crashing a RAID, because it's secure."
"They always have new solutions for their customers. They also have good integration with other partners like Microsoft, VMware, and Oracle."
"It's very fast, NetApp is always dependable, so if we have an issue, they're very responsive."

Cons

"One of the most frequently seen common challenges organizations face when implementing MetaDefender Storage Security is that the integration process into the existing infrastructure is complex."
"I wish to see a daily malware signature update feature in the future for MetaDefender Storage Security that updates the current malware signatures automatically."
"With NetApp ONTAP, the technology is all there, but its management process needs some simplification."
"For administration, there is no user interface present for NetApp ONTAP, so I have to rely on the ONTAP CLI."
"NetApp ONTAP could be improved with additional features to help handle the backup of more than 10 to 15 devices simultaneously."
"They could maybe offer even better documentation."
"In terms of areas where NetApp ONTAP could be improved or enhanced, I believe they should improve the volume replication, specifically the synchronous replication in a block-based SAN environment."
"The lack of an API is a big thing for us that needs to be improved. It needs proper API support."
"cDot only scales to 24 notes so scalability should be better, bigger, but we are one of the only customers that are facing this problem."
"They could expand what is possible to do with automation as there are gaps in the Ansible module coverage they have."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"There are two consumption methods: pay as you go and subscription. Pay as you go... is a little expensive but worth it."
"I rate NetApp ONTAP's pricing a seven out of ten."
"ONTAP has helped us reduce the cost of storage by a lot. We were using IBM XIVs and were paying high costs, except for the maintenance. Now, we are on all-flash and we pay less than what we used to pay."
"If you start narrowing down NetApp versus price point, then comparing it to the feature set and take away all the bloat that other companies will try to add on, there is no other option. It comes down to just NetApp."
"With the duplication and compression, we have been about a one and half to two times savings since we are not running all-flash."
"We save a lot because of the deduplication and compression."
"The product costs an arm and leg; it's expensive."
"There are specific workloads where some vendors provide better value, but in general, NetApp has done a far better on price than other vendors."
