We performed a comparison between Lenovo ThinkAgile MX Certified Node and VMware vSAN based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Dell Technologies, Nutanix, VMware and others in HCI."You can build cheap, reliable, replicated virtual machines clusters using simple servers with an all flash disk or SAS\SATA hybrid tiered by performance storage."
"It has been extremely stable for the three years we've been running it."
"StarWind vSAN was very easy to integrate into our system and ran flawlessly during our entire use time."
"It includes every feature that a traditional SAN offers and so much more."
"The solution offers easy one-click PowerShell scripts that are ready to run."
"StarWind vSAN has allowed us to grow rapidly while still providing flexibility and reliability."
"StarWind has provided us with a top-notch, well-supported, robust vSAN offering when other vendors have moved to hyper-converged solutions that are outside of our average clients' reach from a financial and resource perspective."
"We are running Hyper-V on twin servers in failover, and being able to manage servers from anywhere I need to, virtually, has been a game changer."
"The product’s most valuable feature is the concept of hyper-convergence."
"Technical support is very helpful and very good at resolving issues."
"Its ease of use is most valuable. It is easy to configure, and there is a unified interface, which makes things slightly easier."
"The most valuable feature of VMware vSAN is you do not have to use additional hardware for storage. The operation of VMware vSAN does not take a lot of effort. If you have VMware technology on your site, then it's easy for the operational support of the system."
"When we do to do more scaled load testing, we can run more dense workloads and still have the same results across all specific nodes"
"VMware vSAN is compatible with the legacy hypervisor solutions and most of the features are good."
"It is user-friendly, and its performance is good."
"vSAN provides default HA configurations, where if any host goes down, the VM moves around within the host. Even though the disks are local, the VMs moves around with the vSAN disk and vSAN provides a high availability on its own."
"It is easy to find information out there, not only from searching the web, but even the times I have engaged VMware support."
"An extended trial period would serve as a way to get clean insights into the technology's adaptability and alignment with their specific needs before committing to long-term integration."
"The number of different ways you can set it up can make it a little daunting."
"The main issue we ran into was the documentation. We attempted to set up the product in our test environment by ourselves and ran into several areas of the documentation that were unclear to us."
"In all areas the product could be made faster."
"Ability to to test the virtual storage are network area and storage speed from StarWind Management Console."
"I see no need for major improvements but there could be some improvements in the form of notifications and the simplifying of maintenance mode."
"An update caused a syncing issue and it took over a month to resolve it"
"A great feature would be a wizard and to include a new disk in the SAN. At the moment, including a new disk requires several steps - some that must be done at the OS level and others in each node."
"Lenovo ThinkAgile MX Certified Node’s support services could be faster."
"When you upgrade the vSAN, there are some issues like lost data and problems with the log. The log disappears. When you upgrade the solution, you must have several logs, so if you have some problems, you can check the log server to find them."
"I see room for improvement with vSAN in particularly in the reporting realm. Now, with vSAN 6.7, they're starting to include vRealize Operations components in the vSphere Client, even if you're not a vRealize Operations customer. So, that's really good. It exposes some really low-level reporting. I would like to see more of that. However, you have to be a vRealize Operations customer to obtain that. I would like to see more include of this included in the vSAN licensing."
"I would like compression and deduplication to be offered for offloading hardware, instead of doing it with software. That would be nice."
"I would like to see replication as part of it. I would also like to see direct file access, being able to run SIF shares and NFS and the like. I think that would be critical to continuing the use of it going forward."
"The upgrading process could be simplified."
"This is quite an expensive solution."
"If one node out of your ten nodes fails, it takes a lot of time to replicate and rebalance VMware vSAN. This time can be reduced. When a node fails and the data is not accessible, vSAN has to be rebalanced to make the redundancy level of two again. However, if it is taking a lot of time and any other hardware fails during that time, then we have a problem. Two disk failures mean that all data will be lost, and we may have to recover it from the backup. So, the number of threads that run to do the rebalancing could be more so that the time taken to make it fully redundant again is not so much."
"The main problem we had was hardware compatibility, finding the right hardware that was certified."
