Faced challenges with customer support and documentation but have benefited from reliable data integration over the years
As for utilizing the platform's metadata management feature, I have not worked on that feature yet, but personally, I have done that. To evaluate the effectiveness of IBM InfoSphere Information Server's data integration capabilities, if IBM is providing all the solutions we are using, then it is definitely a helpful thing. Mostly, the other thing is that it is a big area including data governance, data lineage, data management, and metadata, but every customer is not putting that much effort and money on that. They mostly migrate the data, use it, and forget it, but slowly things are changing. I am working in Saudi Arabia, so here also data governance, data management, and those kinds of things are getting attention. Regarding how scalable IBM InfoSphere Information Server is, I need to learn how to tune performance and scalability on the cloud. I am familiar with localized hardware, but on the cloud, I still have to do the work around it. In the beginning, we estimate the load and based on that, we put the hardware, but if there is continuous increase, I believe IBM also faces problems. Scalability needs to be improved because once the demand comes, you should be able to improve it, but for that, documentation on how to add hardware or resources to the software needs to be proper. I do not have much hands-on experience with that.

Easy integration and workflow proposals streamline processes
The predefined connectors eliminate the need to write code for connectivity. If you have a predefined connector, it is easy to use with plug and play functionality. The processing time and ease of use are significant benefits. As everyone is moving into AI integration, it will definitely help. When creating workflows, they can propose solutions directly.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Data connections, data partitioning, flexibility, and performance are the most valuable features."
"This solution is extremely flexible and scalable."
"The integration with different technologies is the most valuable feature."
"IBM InfoSphere Information Server is stable."
"The initial IBM InfoSphere Information Server is straightforward and you can choose what type of installation you want, such as a customized installation, with clear-cut documentation that, if followed, works fine and the installation has not given us issues."
"Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
"This solution has reduced the time it takes for ETL. We took an existing Teradata ETL application from three days to eight minutes."
"Reduces the loading and development time for Datawarehouse ETL."
"Matillion ETL is one hundred percent stable."
"It has helped us to get onto the cloud quickly."
"The most valuable feature of Matillion ETL is the ETL. The solution is open-source which provides advantages, such as good performance and high efficiency. Additionally, it supports three data types which eliminates predefining the data, and we can write script models in Python."
"We allow non-technical people to use Matillion to load data into our data warehouse for reporting. Thus, it is easy enough to use that we don't always have to get a technical person involved in setting up a data movement (ETL)."
"On a new project using Matillion, it took me 10 minutes to set up and begin importing data from Safesforce.com."
"The solution's most valuable feature is the CDC (Change Data Capture) component."
"The predefined connectors eliminate the need to write code for connectivity; if you have a predefined connector, it is easy to use with plug and play functionality."
"It has made our lives much easier, this is what my teammates who were using the other stuff before have said, then they moved it to Snowflake and now it is much easier and faster to use than before."

Cons

"Heavy use of scratch disk which sometimes leads to failure."
"We have decided to decrease the usage of metadata management because we did not see any significant advantages."
"Customer Service: It's poor."
"Their technical support needs improvement."
"IBM InfoSphere Information Server should be more scalable. It should have the option to change the configuration to run on a single, non-multiple node, or multi-threading processing."
"This solution would benefit from the engine being made more lightweight."
"Unlike other tools, IBM tools do not provide much help from the internet, so additional support should be available."
"There are certain shortcomings in the cloud side of the solution, where improvements are required."
"There are certain functions that are available in other ETL tools which are still not present in Matillion ETL. It would be good to have more features."
"The product must enhance its near-real-time data capture feature."
"There are problems with GCP connectivity. Specifically, connections to BigQuery for extracting information are complex, and the optimization of the extraction process requires improvements."
"The cost of the solution is high and could be reduced."
"Unlike Snowflake which automatically takes care of upgrading to the latest version and includes additional features, with Matillion ETL we need to do this ourselves."
"I am looking forward to seeing the expansion of the source range for their data loader product."
"More frequent releases are needed, due to API changes from Google, Marketo, and Facebook."
"It could have better integrations with other databases and other services."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The licensing cost of IBM InfoSphere Information Server depends on how many users there are."
"The pricing depends on what edition the customer opts for. For example, the standard edition is priced at $2.00 per credit. And you are only charged when you use it. You're not charged when it's idle."
"The prices needs to be lower."
"It was procured through the AWS Marketplace because it keeps things simple. They offer retail-like checkout and bill through your existing Amazon Web Services account."
"It is not necessarily a cheap solution. However, it's reasonable priced, especially with the smaller machines that we run it on."
"It was very easy to purchase through the AWS Marketplace, but it was also expensive."
"A rough estimation of the cost is around 20,000 dollars a month, however, this is dependent on the machine used and how Matillion ETL is used."
"Purchasing it through the AWS Marketplace is pretty convenient. There is a little bit of back and forth in terms of the licensing based on the machine size, but it seems to have worked out well. it is convenient to have it all as part of our AWS billing."
"The product must improve its pricing."
