Centralized secrets have improved CI/CD security and now streamline credential rotation
IBM HashiCorp Security Lifecycle Management can be improved in that initial setup and policy configuration can take some time, especially for teams that are new to Vault and its concepts. I would also appreciate simpler administration and more straightforward troubleshooting because some configuration issues can require digging through logs and documentation. I would also improve the user experience around monitoring and day-to-day administration in IBM HashiCorp Security Lifecycle Management. Some tasks are quite straightforward once you understand the platform, but the learning curve can be higher for new team members. Better guided workflows with clearer error messages would help. One area I would improve in IBM HashiCorp Security Lifecycle Management is the overall reporting and visibility experience. It would be useful to have more out-of-the-box dashboards for access patterns, policy compliance, and secret life status without needing as much customization.

Identity has become our central gatekeeper and has provided secure single sign-on for all users
Microsoft Entra ID can improve by focusing more on new passwordless methods and becoming a primary adopter. One feature we would like to see is the ability to have security questions for password resets. I know the current capability is phasing out, so we do not have an alternative method yet. Customers who already use security questions require a smoother transition for that capability to be available. My experience with the deployment has had some challenges, particularly around the Microsoft MFA campaigns. The hardest part is moving users from a different MFA provider to the Microsoft MFA provider, as it ultimately depends on user activity. In large enterprises with numerous users across various geographies, this transition takes time. If there are ways to exert more control around that process, it would improve the situation.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"My main use case for IBM HashiCorp Security Lifecycle Management is service discovery."
"IBM HashiCorp Security Lifecycle Management has positively impacted our organization by reducing the amount of sensitive credentials being stored directly in the application code and configuration files."
"Microsoft customer service is the best in the industry."
"It has made our work easier in that it’s simplified everything for us."
"The solution has come a long way. Now, with the Azure AD B2C offering integrated as well, we've got a full IAM-type solution for our customer-facing identity management. In addition, when it comes to user journeys we now can hook in custom flows for different credential checking and authorizations for specific conditional access."
"The scalability of the product is decent."
"The central authentication server is most valuable, and GPOs are useful for user and computer policies."
"The product is easy to use."
"Microsoft Entra ID efficiently responds to numerous requests, and we have not faced significant connectivity issues, making it reliable."
"We have about 80 users in the Azure Active Directory right now, however, we know that if it was necessary to scale it for hundreds or thousands of users, it wouldn't be a problem."

Cons

"IBM HashiCorp Security Lifecycle Management can be improved in that initial setup and policy configuration can take some time, especially for teams that are new to Vault and its concepts."
"Active Directory could always be more secure. Right now, we've got two-factor authentications. All services based on Active Directory have a username and password. If somebody hacked our username, they could easily get all the data from our side. So I want two-factor authentication and a stronger password policy from Active Directory. The domain controllers should be more secure as well."
"There are no specific areas where improvement is needed at the moment. Everything has been good so far."
"One challenge with Entra ID is its complexity, stemming from integrating many components into a single solution."
"The user administration has room for improvement because some parts are not available within the Azure AD portal, but they are available within the Microsoft 365 portal."
"Microsoft is working with Microsoft Identity Manager for Active Directory on-premise. It will be very important to have these identity management solutions directly in Azure Active Directory. It's very important to have some kind of Azure identity manager as a technology for identity and access management for working both in the cloud and inside the Azure suite."
"Microsoft Entra ID's impact on access and identity management is relatively limited."
"Customer service has been inconsistent for us, and we usually have to escalate issues. We typically resolve the problem before Microsoft can respond to us, so the service has not been very useful."
"I'd like to see integration between applications and phones included in the solution."

"Azure Active Directory is expensive."
"We have a yearly license."
"We have an agreement with Microsoft, and my company pays yearly."
"The P1 version costs $6 per user per month."
"The E5 plan we are using contains the premium plans for Azure Active Directory. We are not paying only for the Azure Active Directory Premium licenses. We have it already included within our E5 plan."
"It is costly."
