Real-time data replication and integration streamline processes and enhance productivity
The most valuable feature of Fivetran so far is the data replication. The real-time data replication is what I see best in the market where it reduces the overhead of customers needing to maintain the pipeline. Even when an error occurs, it automatically tries to solve the issue without manual interaction needed. The effectiveness of Fivetran's pre-built connectors in enhancing my customer's productivity is significant because everything is easily configurable. The documentation is very clear, so there's no difficulty in finding the necessary steps. Everything is pre-documented. The pre-built connectors that are available are excellent. Most functionalities are covered, and in most cases, it works according to expectations.

Provides multiple transformations in one toolset and helpful when extracting data from multiple sources
Error handling capability is quite good in Informatica PowerCenter because it provides a very detailed session log, which is really helpful to identify errors. In addition, there are KB articles published by Informatica that are really helpful. So, error handling and the KB articles provided by Informatica are very helpful. Even if you face any issues or errors, we can usually resolve them. If the error cannot be solved with Informatica PowerCenter, we can raise a case with Informatica, and their support team will help us address that issue. If it cannot be solved with that particular version, they will consider it and try to solve it with the next patch or hotfix. AI Initiatives: Our company also has organizational AI or machine learning initiatives. However, Informatica PowerCenter doesn't fit into AI-related things because it's an on-premise tool. It doesn't have a significant role in the field. It is just a small ETL on-premises tool. So basically, in the AI field, Informatica PowerCenter is not going to be that impactful. Informatica has launched IICS and IDMC (Informatica Data Management Cloud and Informatica Cloud), where their AI comes into the picture. But for Informatica PowerCenter, AI does not come into the picture at all.

Intuitive interface and documentation make it simple to build jobs and APIs and logging helps pinpoint and resolve issues quickly
Talend is doing a lot of work at the moment, and it's not there yet, but the whole platform could be managed in a SaaS-type environment. You still need to have the Studio running on a virtual desktop or a PC. They will get to be able to do the whole thing inside your browser, so you don't need to install anything locally. It's down the track, and it's the nirvana that we were looking for in Boomi. But the biggest challenge they have is that the platform is so focused on the Studio for all of its development. They'll probably get there, but they have such a mature Studio client that it's a huge amount of work to get all of that functionality into a browser or SaaS platform. That's pretty much the biggest flaw with the Talend environment—being reliant on the Studio, which needed to be on a local machine. The only other thing is that you have to integrate into an API gateway. We're in Azure, so we use Microsoft Azure Gateway. It doesn't come with its own gateway, which is another sort of big plus side that we saw in Boomi. Talend isn't quite there yet with the API gateway. Other than that, it's bloody hard to find something because it just seems to be all good.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"SysTrack load is the best feature."
"The compare feature is the most valuable piece of it."
"The ease of setting up the connectors and transformations is highly valuable."
"Fivetran offers native connectivity with Sybase"
"Its arrays are powerful enough to handle migrations even when the replication is happening in the background, without causing any trouble with the ongoing traffic."
"The portal is very intuitive and easy to use."
"The most valuable feature of Fivetran so far is the data replication; the real-time data replication is what I see best in the market where it reduces the overhead of customers needing to maintain the pipeline."
"Making the decision to implement Fivetran was supported by the fact that they have better connectors than other competitors."
"The support is valuable. There are also open-source ETL products, which work very well, but there is no support. When we face a production problem, being able to get support is valuable, and it brings efficiency. With an open-source solution, we can't engage anyone to resolve the problem as quickly as possible."
"We have found the PowerCenter and B2B data transformation most valuable."
"The functions in Informatica PowerCenter that I have found most valuable are the way it manages the volume of data, the push down optimization, and the performance aspects of it, mostly related to parallelism techniques."
"Among all the solutions I have used, I found Informatica PowerCenter to be much more stable in terms of application."
"The ability to scale through partitions helped us to improve the performance."
"The interface is very clean and clear."
"It is very comprehensive in terms of connector and transformation capabilities from both a source and target perspective."
"It has a Data Catalog that uses the Model repository."
"The most valuable features of Talend Open Studio are customization and integration."
"The best thing I have found with Talend Open Studio is their major support for the lookups."
"We have contacted their technical support. They are great. They offer very professional help. If I need some technical answer, they are very professional. They are quick, professional, and very accurate."
"The most valuable features are definitely data integration, data preparation, and data stewardship."
"Talend lets you do everything — mapping, workflow, and orchestration — in a single place."
"The product's initial setup phase was easy."
"It is easy to use and covers most of the functions needed. We can use the code without any extra effort. The open source is very good. They have the same commercials with additional connectors. The graphical design environment is also very easy."
"Talend Open Studio is easy to create jobs. We use the basic functionality and it is very good."

Cons

"The solution is very expensive. I would like to have a better integration of the solution with Azure."
"HVR Software's technical support could be improved. Whenever we log a case, the response that we get from the support is a bit delayed."
"The biggest area for improvement is in customization, particularly in how Fivetran socializes its tools."
"We experience cost issues because Fivetran is charged on a usage basis. When you reach a certain level, the tool should focus on reducing the costs. The solution is expensive when you are moving gigabytes and petabytes of data. It should also focus more on REST APIs and webhooks."
"An in-line data quality checking capability is missing"
"Fivetran would be improved by adding the ability to integrate the data from third-party APIs."
"There was a random change to our contract in a unilateral manner after the first year. The overall cost of using Fivetran was then unclear and this is the reason I would not recommend this solution."
"Their pricing has increased over the years, so it's not seen as an advantage anymore."
"It would be nice to have all tools in one place. CDC needs more effort, as it's only easy to develop if you are familiar with Linux."
"The real-time database connectivity when getting the real-time data using the VPN is an area that needs improvement."
"An issue which should be addressed is that the solution only allows us to do structured, as opposed to unstructured, data processing."
"Informatica, in my opinion, is very rigid and not very flexible, whereas platforms like Alteryx or Matillion are very flexible and agile."
"If you want to transfer a ZIP file, it is a pain. You need to use Command-Line. Sometimes we just want to transfer a file. It should be easy to move them from A to B."
"Now they are migrating to a new version, and they have something that is called Informatica Developer. Previously, they just had PowerCenter. Now, when they move everything to Informatica Developer it's not as good or stable like it was when it was PowerCenter, though it has some nice features. This Developer tool could be better."
"The licensing is difficult."
"What needs improvement in Informatica PowerCenter is the cloud experience because, nowadays, other companies, such as AWS, Azure, and Google, have more experience in the cloud. The pricing for Informatica PowerCenter on the cloud is also very expensive for customers, so some customers prefer open-source tools or lower-priced tools, such as Azure. From my point of view, Informatica must work on the pricing policy and review the policy on the cloud for Informatica PowerCenter or propose more tools with lower pricing. Clients want the automatic integration of Informatica PowerCenter with other tools. Currently, the integration process is manual, and you have to add other tools to facilitate the integration, especially with the DevOps methodology. You need scripts and tools for the integration, and you'll need to use other integration tools if you want automatic deployment for Informatica PowerCenter, so this is another area for improvement in the solution. What I'd like to see in the next release of the solution is for the integration with APIs to be simpler, because currently, the API integration feature of Informatica PowerCenter is very difficult. It's not intuitive. You have to facilitate API integration and the real-time streaming of messages in Kafka, for example, so that should be improved."
"The documentation is lacking within the product. They need to get better at all aspects of describing how it works and how to use it."
"The technical support and documentation need a lot of work to come up to standard."
"Talent consumes a lot of resources on my PC."
"It doesn't have the ability to keep the repository of the source code (visual pipeline). It can be integrated with Git."
"There used to be many Youtube channels that offered Talend training, but now there don't seem to be any. The solution should offer more online training resources."
"I think my biggest problem with the tool is that the errors are very hard to debug."
"In the next release, Open Studio should include cloud storage as an input."
"It needs better installation configuration for other databases. Although the installation allows you to select another database, this doesn't mean that all connection points in the application point to the database selected. You actually need to do a search through the entire install to locate the configuration settings and change them."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I would say they're a little bit on the expensive side, and their contract process is not particularly good, but there is a lot of potential flexibility."
"I can't give exact amounts because that's based on usage, but it's more expensive than some of its competitors."
"The pricing model is okay and mid to large companies will not have an issue with it."
"The licensing costs are extremely high for the usage of somebody who has one GB or two GB of usage per day for real-time traffic. There are many other players in the market which are similarly priced or competitively priced. On average per month, it used to come around 12,000-15,000 USD, which is very high."
"I rate the pricing a six out of ten."
"When you have a lot of workflows and complex use cases, pricing goes down as you use it more."
"In the first year, we were given a very good discount. It was approximately 20,000 Euros per year. In the third year, we purchased credit for two years and the price was 33,000 Euros per year."
"The solution is affordable."
"A basic setup can be from $100,000 and up annually."
"The solution is in the middle price range compared to other solutions."
"Our customers pay a licensing fee yearly."
"According to what I've heard and read on various blogs, it's quite expensive when compared to similar competitive products."
"I rate the product's price a ten on a scale of one to ten, where one is a low price, and ten is a high price."
"Price-wise, it's more expensive than SSIS, but it's a better tool, so it has more features. Licensing is on a yearly basis."
"The licensing fees are paid on a yearly basis."
"I am not sure about the most recent price, but I think it should be $100,000 or more."
"It does the job well for nothing — without cost. That's the advantage of this product."
"We are using the free version of the tool, because the enterprise version is a little expensive."
"It is an open-source product."
"Price could be lower. It is getting too expensive when compared to some other solutions, which is actually a little bit concerning."
"Pricing is always a challenge. It is quite an expensive model, but because the platform is so simple to use, we haven't had to purchase any additional licenses."
"Talend is free and you can download it."
"There are many versions available and one is open-sourced which is free."
"The cost for one year for the ETL tools, not for the big data, is 6K per year. It is a good price."
