Logging and vector search have transformed observability and empowered reliable ai agents
Elastic Search is not specifically being used for certain purposes. I deploy Elastic Search database on the cloud and use cloud services so that nobody can attack. However, I do not use Elastic Search to resolve attack issues. The basic main purpose of Elastic Search, as of now, I feel it can do more in the AI area. Sometime I saw that when I am developing RAG and have to generate the embeddings, which I call metadata, sometimes it tries to fail. That durability or issue handling should be improved, but apart from that, I did not find anything as of now. As per my use case, whatever I am using seems pretty good. Apart from that, some definitely improvement will be there. One improvement is that it should be faster. Whenever I am searching any logs, it takes much time. For example, if I open my log in Notepad or a similar tool, I can search the text within a second. With Elastic Search, it takes a little bit of time, ten to fifteen seconds. That can be improved. Sometimes, engineers take time to assign when I create a ticket.

Good at handling replication, provides cross-database replication but SAP can provide better support for cross-database replication to newer technologies
SAP can provide better support for cross-database replication to newer technologies. The product supports Oracle, but I am not aware of what other technologies it supports. If someone wants to replicate their data from Sybase to a newer technology for data warehousing or other purposes, it would be better if they supported those.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Elastic Enterprise Search is a very good solution and they should keep doing good work."
"The most valuable features of Elastic Enterprise Search are it's cloud-ready and we do a lot of infrastructure as code. By using ELK, we're able to deploy the solution as part of our ISC deployment."
"A good use case is saving metadata of your systems for data cataloging. Various systems, like those opened in metadata and similar applications, use Elasticsearch to store their text data."
"The Attack Discovery feature helps to dig into incidents from where they occurred to determine how the incident originated and its source; it gives an entire path of attack propagation, showing when it started, what happened, and all events that took place to connect the entire cyber incident."
"There are a lot of good things about this solution. First, it is an extremely fast search. We have quite an extensive number of logs, and we can search through billions of documents in just a few minutes, and get the results we're looking for."
"On the subject of pricing, Elastic Search is very cost-efficient, as you can host it on-premises, which would incur zero cost, or take it as a SaaS-based service, where the expenses remain minimal."
"Elastic Search makes handling large data volumes efficient and supports complex search operations."
"The most valuable feature of Elastic Enterprise Search is the Discovery option for the visualization of logs on a GPU instead of on the server."
"SAP Replication Server is an application that I consider to be a robust system. It has proven to be highly reliable in my experience."
"This product has a catalog with the location of all the objects which were replicated, and it's very simple to maintain."
"The most valuable thing about this product is that it replicates data between SAP databases (ASE to IQ) very successfully."
"We can customize any workflow and we also like the business domain modeling that can be done."
"It's pretty good at handling replication, even under high load. It also provides cross-database replication, for example, from Sybase to Oracle."
"SAP is renovating different things. We are using external tools to connect as of now. It is going well, and now the new generation integration platforms are going to be pretty easy."
"Currently, there is a Hadoop-based infrastructure with several engineers to maintain the data, and now, using SAP Replication Server, it has become automatic and requires fewer people to put data in the data warehouse."
"We use this solution for all kinds of communications like RFC, BAPI, IDoc, connecting with the orders, accounts, finance, data stuff, banking, everything."

Cons

"The real-time search functionality is not operational due to its impact on system resources."
"Elasticsearch could improve by honoring Unix environmental variables and not relying only on those provided by Java (e.g. installing plugins over the Unix http proxy)."
"We have an issue with the volume of data that we can handle."
"There were also some difficult times with parallel and point-in-time interfaces, so better documentation could help, particularly more example-driven content."
"I know many customers who lost their data and could not recover it."
"It needs email notification, similar to what Logentries has."
"In terms of product improvement, ratio aggregation is not supported in this solution."
"There are challenges with performance management and scalability."
"Setup was a little complex."
"If someone wants to replicate their data from Sybase to a newer technology for data warehousing or other purposes, it would be better if they supported those."
"It's a very expensive solution."
"There is room for improvement in terms of pricing and faster support."
"It's complex. It's necessary to understand a little about infrastructure, like network LAN and VLAN environment."
"There is a need to improve performance in high transactional processes."
"Improvement is a never ending story, and HANA is doing some improvements. We are able to adopt that, and we have to do it by integration with HANA. They are very major changes that we need to see."
"The private solution is expensive. If you're in a situation where you're paying IBM or AWS or somebody just to host you specifically, you're paying people to run it and you're taking care of all the upgrades."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing and license model are clear: node-based model."
"The tool is not expensive. Its licensing costs are yearly."
"The solution is not expensive because users have the option of choosing the managed or the subscription model."
"The solution is free."
"We are paying $1,500 a month to use the solution. If you want to have endpoint protection you need to pay more."
"The price of Elastic Enterprise is very, very competitive."
"The solution is less expensive than Stackdriver and Grafana."
"The version of Elastic Enterprise Search I am using is open source which is free. The pricing model should improve for the enterprise version because it is very expensive."
"It's a very expensive solution."
"You can pick one of the hosted cloud services as opposed to owning it and doing it yourself. Your cost of ownership on the hardware, the data storage, and the maintenance all go down. It depends on what service you use."
