A stable solution that is easy to install, manage, and upgrade
Nutanix Frame has significantly improved our desktop deployment cycles. There is a box specifically for desktop and VDI purposes, and its performance is really amazing. The most important thing is that the solution's implementation is very easy. Nutanix Frame is amazing for IOPS, and you cannot compare it with traditional architecture. Initially, we found some compatibility issues because Nutanix has its own hypervisor, which was incompatible with many backup software. Now, all the software and backup software support Nutanix, and there's no issue in the market. Nutanix Frame is a highly secured solution because, by default, the box comes with encryption. Whatever hard drives you have is already encrypted. I had cases with some customers where the environment was compromised, but nothing happened to the solution. The solution's deployment model is based on the requirement and compliance issues. Nutanix Frame can be deployed on-premises or on the cloud based on the customer's requirement. You can also have the solution in the cloud with a single license. You don't need a separate license to deploy it on the cloud. We have implemented the solution in the government, private, and banking sectors. Choosing Nutanix Frame depends on your business priority, customer requirement, size of the environment, and current investment. They can go with additional architecture if they have invested enough with the current storage. If they plan to do the tech refresh for the storage in the future, I suggest going with Nutanix Frame. It will make their life easy in terms of management and compliance. Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

Secure access across devices with cost-effective seamless integration
One valuable feature is the ability to securely use a wide range of devices to access the company's infrastructure. The inclusion of all necessary components, such as load balancer and gateways, in a monthly fee is also beneficial. In terms of Parallels Desktop, the coherence mode that allows Mac and Windows applications to run seamlessly side by side is highly regarded.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Nutanix Frame is easy to install, manage, and upgrade."
"The scalability of the solution is quite good."
"The pricing of the solution and management are good features."
"The singular management interface is crucial, particularly for the operations team as it minimizes complexity and enhances operational efficiency."
"You have the opportunity to virtualize applications in different locations. Everything is in one pane or one window, which is quite good."
"Setup was straightforward. Our particular use case involved an Active Directory forest involving two data centers and three domains. User authentication against Active Directory was the easiest to set up and validate of any application installed in the last three years."
"The solution is powerful, and it has good speed and performance."
"Ease of use in publishing apps and installing the agent. The Interface is fairly intuitive after some tinkering. Although I inherited the app only two-thirds deployed, I was able to complete the deployment and service it over the last year without referring to any documentation."
"Allows us to publish applications accessible by current-generation HTML5 browser or OS-specific client (Windows, Android, iOS), and it supports popular single sign-on and multi-factor authentication protocols."
"We use RAS to publish cloud desktops to our clients. The ability to easily publish resources to a subset of users is what we find most valuable."
"It is robust. We have some 75 users using it and it doesn't lag. It's very speedy."
"Parallels Desktop allows me to run both Mac and Windows operating systems on a single machine, eliminating the need for separate Windows hardware."

Cons

"The solution can be made faster and it should improve performance wise."
"As the solution is not completely straightforward, you do need some experience to configure and implement it."
"The solution’s pricing could be improved."
"It would be highly beneficial if they could offer a version that is entirely on-premises, eliminating the need for cloud connection except for data access."
"Parallels Remote Application Server (RAS) is an expensive solution, and its pricing could be improved."
"The main issue we have with all of our users is printing. Randomly, a printer will disconnect or someone won't connect to it and I will have to reset the print service and then nobody can print. That's the big headache we've had over the course of the five years."
"Since I've been here less than a year, I have had to upgrade the system three times. The first time was the major upgrade but they have upgraded twice since, and I think that's too many times in that time span."
"Sometimes you need to understand how to use load balancing and the gateway in order to scale, which means the team may need some additional technical knowledge."
"The customization of the web interface could possibly use some improvement. Little things, like being able to place a background image instead of just choosing from a palette of colors, would be nice."
"We have had significant, ongoing issues with printing. It would be great to have a best practice for dealing with printing that we can offer to our customers."
"Improvement is needed in performance monitoring of the client's endpoint, and automatic re-connection of the client in the event of circuit disruptions (this works well generally but can present challenges)."
"Opening a ticket should be available from the actual RAS console. It is cumbersome to go to a portal, hunt around for five minutes for a link to open a ticket, answer questions meant to direct you towards FAQs instead of live support, then fill out information (license #, version #, etc.) which could more easily be supplied by sending a ticket straight from the console with all of that information automatically specified."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is a cost-effective option with comparable functionality to competitors."
"Nutanix Frame is a very expensive solution."
"The licensing is based on the number of users of the solution."
"The pricing of the solution is very good."
"Parallels is a cost effective alternative to Citrix."
"The product is not expensive. I rate its pricing a three or four out of ten."
"It is inexpensive compared to one of its competitors."
"I think the new pricing is a little bit high. If the price was lower, we could use it for many more customers. If there was one improvement to be made to this product, it would be a small-business version, at a much lower price point."
"Work with the vendor, as this is a fairly new product and they want use cases. Deals can be made."
"Pricing is a little steep."
"We currently use Parallels side-by-side with an Azure cloud-hosted solution. This may be from a lack of product knowledge on my part, but we still need to work out the most effective way to shut down servers outside of hours, thereby reduce hosting costs. I am not entirely convinced Parallels does this well yet."
"I recommend testing Parallels and comparing it to your needs. Compare the prices against what you are able to do with the product and its alternatives. Parallels is not a cheap product."
