Has enabled efficient big data processing and querying but remains complex to manage and configure
Cloudera Data Platform should use fewer tools and remove the complexity between them. It should make it easier for the end user to change the configuration and understand it better. The UI tool for jobs in Cloudera Data Platform can be improved to provide a proper image of ETL jobs and detailed consolidated graphs to monitor Spark-based Hue jobs.

Centralized access control has secured sensitive data and supports compliant self-service analytics
Immuta is very helpful, but it can be improved in a few areas. The initial setup and policy design can be complex and require a learning curve. The user interface could be more interactive, especially for non-technical users. Policy troubleshooting and debugging could be easier with better visibility into why access was allowed or denied. Performance optimization and deeper integration with more tools could make it even better. Additional improvements would strengthen Immuta further. The documentation and real-world examples would help teams onboard faster. More out-of-the-box policy templates could reduce setup time. Improved policy simulation and testing would help teams understand the impact of changes before applying them. Stronger alerting and monitoring features would help quickly identify access issues. Finally, more end-user training and simplified workflows would make it easier for business users to adopt.

Pros

"The scalability is the key reason why we are on this platform."
"Distributed computing, secure containerization, and governance capabilities are the most valuable features."
"Ambari Web UI: user-friendly."
"Now, using this solution, it is much cheaper to have all of the data available for searching, not in real-time, but whenever there is a pending request."
"Cloudera Data Platform is a perfect tool to manage such vast amounts of big data, store it properly, query it, and move it from one end to another."
"The best features Cloudera Data Platform offers are the processing power with Spark and the distributed data storage, HDFS, which helps us handle massive volumes of data."
"Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) has helped our organization improve data management consistency and scalability across multiple environments, with the unified control plane and centralized governance reducing operational overhead and making it easier to manage workloads between on-premise and cloud environments."
"Hortonworks should not be expensive at all to those looking into using it."
"Immuta has had a very positive impact on our organization, helping us strengthen data security by ensuring sensitive data is only accessible to the right users, simplifying compliance with clear audit trails and consistent policy enforcement, reducing manual access management to save time for data and security teams, and enabling safe self-service analytics so our team can access data faster while still meeting governance and regulatory requirements."
"Instead of manually tagging data, Immuta’s auto-discovery capability identifies sensitive information, such as country labels, gender information, and other personal data."
"The tool's most valuable feature is restriction."
"What I appreciate the most is its user-friendliness."
"All features available are good."

Cons

"Cloudera Data Platform can be improved in several areas. I recently attended their roadmap session. Whatever limitations they have identified involve moving data from on-premises to cloud as a single-pane view and better lineage."
"Cloudera Data Platform could improve by innovating more in terms of full-fledged support for AI workloads, enriching machine learning or LLM, as there haven't been updates in that aspect over the last one and a half years."
"Hive performance. If Hive performance increased, Hadoop would replace (not everywhere) traditional databases."
"Deleting any service requires a lot of clean up, unlike Cloudera."
"More information could be there to simplify the process of running the product."
"Cloudera Data Platform can be improved by addressing the feasibility of using it in the cloud; there are some complexities around the components used in cloud by Cloudera Data Platform that are not really convenient."
"A major drawback that I see with Cloudera Data Platform is that it tends to be one or two years behind the latest open-source implementation of the Apache toolkits such as Spark, Hive, and everything else, which relates to the guardrails of following compliance as the main driving factor, so that is something that could be done better on Cloudera Data Platform's side."
"It's at end of life and no longer will there be improvements."
"Immuta is very helpful, but it can be improved in a few areas."
"Immuta is behind in updating upgrades and software releases."
"We have had some challenges with their support when we were migrating to the cloud version. We we had some issues, and it took us several attempts to get a proper responses as part of that migration."
"There is room for improvement in enhancing the monitoring capabilities."
"The implementation process with Immuta was quite challenging, primarily due to issues related to database handling and the syncing of user groups."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Currently, we are using the product in a sandbox environment, and there is no licensing. We might choose a licensing option once we get the results."
"It is priced well and it is affordable"
"Immuta's pricing is expensive."
