Distributed computing improves data processing while upgrade complexity needs addressing
There are challenges with upgrading or updating various services like Spark, Impala, and Hive on on-premise and bare metal solutions. We aim to address these issues with a Kubernetes-based platform that will simplify the task of upgrading services. We also wish to implement lakehouse capabilities with Iceberg or Delta Lake frameworks.

A low-code/no-code platform with a user-friendly UI
We couldn't implement or use some of the latest functionalities, like Spark. Palantir Foundry is scalable, but it is costly compared to other cloud providers. The solution is more suitable for small and medium businesses. It might be difficult for large enterprises. I rate the solution’s scalability a seven out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The product offers a fairly easy setup process."
"Cloudera Data Platform has significantly improved our data management."
"Ambari Web UI: user-friendly."
"The data platform is pretty neat. The workflow is also really good."
"The upgrades and patches must come from Hortonworks."
"The Hortonworks solution is so stable. It is working as a production system, without any error, without any downtime. If I have downtime, it is mostly caused by the hardware of the computers."
"Distributed computing, secure containerization, and governance capabilities are the most valuable features."
"Integration with other tools works well for us and we successfully scaled the solution after two to three years without any issues."
"The security is also excellent. It's highly granular, so the admins have a high degree of control, and there are many levels of security. That worked well. You won't have an EDC unless you put everything onto the platform because it is its own isolated thing."
"The solution provides an end-to-end integrated tech stack that takes care of all utility/infrastructure topics for you."
"The AI engine that comes with Palantir Foundry is quite interesting."
"The virtualization tool is useful."
"The ease of use is my favorite feature. We're able to build different models and projects or combine different projects to build one use case."
"The interface is really user-friendly."
"Great features available in one tool."
"It's scalable."

Cons

"I work a lot with banking, IT and communications customers. Hortonworks must improve or must upgrade their services for these sectors."
"It would also be nice if there were less coding involved."
"The initial setup may take several hours or days, depending on the challenges faced during installation. It's not always a smooth process due to potential complexities."
"The cost of the solution is high and there is room for improvement."
"It's at end of life and no longer will there be improvements."
"For on-premise use, I would not recommend Cloudera Data Platform as it is expensive and complicated to upgrade."
"I would like to see more support for containers such as Docker and OpenShift."
"The version control of the software is also an issue."
"Difficult to receive data from external sources."
"The major hindrance with Palantir Foundry is that being a very closed product, the cost optimization and costing are not exposed to the end users."
"They do not have a data center in Europe, and we have lots of personally identifiable information in our dataset that needs to be hosted by a third-party data center like Amazon or Microsoft Azure."
"Compared to other hyperscalers, Palantir Foundry is complex and not so user-intuitive."
"The solution's visualization and analysis could be improved."
"The solution’s data security could be improved."
"There is not a wide user base for the solution's online documentation so it is sometimes difficult to find answers."
"Some error messages can be very cryptic."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Currently, we are using the product in a sandbox environment, and there is no licensing. We might choose a licensing option once we get the results."
"It is priced well and it is affordable"
"The solution’s pricing is high."
"Palantir Foundry has different pricing models that can be negotiated."
"Palantir Foundry is an expensive solution."
"It's expensive."
