Automation has simplified migrations and now needs to address complex legacy compatibility
The features I like the most about AWS Application Migration Service is its ease of use. That's the main thing. It's ease of use, and they have a detailed walkthrough, especially depending on different operating systems. The automation capabilities of AWS actually eliminate the long time and input that I have to put into migration. These days, I just run the agent, and then the agent does the job. All I have to do is actually look at the current migration status on the AWS dashboard. When it's done, I then do a quick switch over to the cloud. The key thing I really love is the simple moving of files from on-prem to the cloud.

Experienced users benefit from resource isolation and valuable self-service portal while seeing potential in enhanced infrastructure visibility
VMware is not going further with VMware Cloud Director. They are integrating the VMware Cloud Director feature with Aria Automation only for the upcoming versions, primarily with the VCF 9, and slowly they are integrating some of the parts they have already integrated, and they might not continue with VMware Cloud Director in the future. They can make it more granular to ensure hardware-level segregation, the underlying infrastructure level of segregation for the end user, and a separate security boundary where users can access the end-to-end layer. End-to-end layer means my software layer along with the hardware layer. If they want to do a certain level of troubleshooting primarily on the ESXi part, that is what I feel is lacking for now because for an end user accessing the SSP, the underlying infrastructure is a kind of black box for them. For VMware Cloud Director, it can be more comprehensive if we enable public cloud integration as well. In today's date, customers are adopting a multi-cloud environment where VMware Cloud Director is much feasible to leverage the underlying VMware backend architecture. If VMware Cloud Director could be made to have more integration with the public cloud and do the day one, day two jobs for public cloud interface as well, that would be beneficial. Additionally, I recommend leveraging the VMware Cloud Director layer if a customer has a multi-cloud environment and is planning some cross-cloud migration capability. Cross-cloud migration refers to if a customer has something on Azure, wanting to bring it up on VMware or maybe from VMware to AWS, vice versa. In that case, VMware Cloud Director should provide some cross-cloud migration capability as well.

Pros

"The features I like the most about AWS Application Migration Service is its ease of use, and they have a detailed walkthrough, especially depending on different operating systems, while the automation capabilities eliminate the long time and input that I have to put into migration."
"The installation process and configuration processes are very straightforward, and in terms of maintenance, it's pretty easy as one person can handle it."
"The product is reasonably priced."
"Live Migration's best feature is that it's free."
"The most valuable feature is the live, block-to-block replication."
"Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten...Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten...I rate the solution's support a ten out of ten."
"CloudEndure is a product that I recommend to my customers because it's very easy to implement, configure, and use."
"The CloudEndure feature is most valuable because it is user friendly and very simple."
"It has enabled us to provision new clients faster; we don't have to configure a new host nor configure a new VM, we just have to secure it."
"There have been 6 major releases and 16 minor releases which backs up one of my biggest claims around platform maturity and as to why vCloud Director is the best Cloud Management Platform on the market when it comes to the abstraction of vSphere resources and presenting pools of compute, storage and networking via a true multi-tenant interface."
"I like the functionality that's available with Orchestrator. The platform stability stuff that I would be involved in worries me from the automation side because you have a lot less hands-on control of things. Price point, it kind of puts us off."
"Great cloud services platform"
"You can't go wrong with VMware."
"The most valuable features are the multi-tenancy and multi-site configuration, and the virtual machine deployment and segregation of customers due to multi-tenancy is also very simplified, which is the reason we chose this product for hosting the private cloud."
"This is the go-to tool for anyone looking for standard out-of-the-box capabilities in a fully multitenant public cloud software that they can leverage to offer services to their customers."
"With the help of vCloud Director, we have been able to provide really good multi-tenanted services, making the best use of existing hardware and investments, but reducing our overall CapEx very heavily."

Cons

"There are some features in the Migration Factory that could be integrated directly into AWS Application Migration Service."
"The schema conversion is not included in the document management services itself. Complex formations require additional steps."
"I do not see any improvements required for the CloudEndure."
"One drawback to using CloudEndure is that the default is to give one small, lightweight server, which is created in the cloud."
"I think it is important to have more logs, and more details would be great because we have just logged on the client's side, but there weren't many details on the cloud."
"However, I give it a six mainly due to the compatibility issues with legacy systems, which is an individual problem I am currently facing."
"We would like to have a disaster recovery feature included in this solution."
"Live Migration has some issues with target setups."
"There are some shortcomings. There are bugs with opening support."
"vRealize Orchestrator is an expensive tool."
"We use vCloud Director along with Terraform, and it's difficult to make them work together."
"The integration between components could be improved."
"The stability of vCloud Director has some hiccups, as there are compatibility issues."
"I would like to see mode accessory recovery and integration with SD-WAN."
"The solution's pricing is high, and VMware should consider lowering it."
"This solution could improve by adding root cause analysis."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"For me, the price of the tool is cheap and very good. It is flexible pricing since you pay just for what you use."
"Live Migration's price is good."
"It's a costly product. The licenses may not be costly, but with every new development in their product, we need to purchase deployment services, and the deployment services are quite costly."
"vCloud Director is priced higher than other solutions, such as Nutanix."
"We pay monthly for all of the licenses."
"It is better than other solutions out there when it comes to cost."
"I recommend using the Enterprise or Enterprise Plus licenses because they unlock all of the solution's capabilities."
"The product is inexpensive compared to other vendors."
"We are paying around $ 15,000 per month for vCloud Director, and it would be nice if it could be made cheaper."
"vCloud Director is a very expensive solution."
