Effectively identifies malicious behavior while future automation and AI advancements hold potential
Cisco Secure IPS (NGIPS) is quite powerful for threat detection and includes botnet detection. It effectively blocks unwanted software, hashes, and suspicious behaviors. The tool is easy to integrate with other IT security solutions due to similar protocols. The system offers effective threat detection features, although automation capabilities are not yet fully utilized.

Complements any firewall
The core processors are there and it's able to generate reports for that. It also complements any kind of firewall. For example, if an end user is using Palo Alto as a firewall, they'd need another layer of firewall like the S-Series that will protect internal servers. It's something that complements any firewall in the market.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution very effectively provides malware protection and signature-based anomaly detection."
"Ir's signature-based. We are also using the anomaly baseline formation, where it links the network, then anything that goes away from the norm is also flagged. Those are the two most valuable features."
"The most valuable feature would be the IPS is very important in Cisco Firepower because I can configure deep configuration in IPS and tuning."
"Technical support is quite good. With firewalls, the last cases I had with Cisco were professionally handled quite quickly and it was great."
"I've found the performance and stability to be the most valuable features of Cisco NGIPS. It is scalable as well."
"We like the Cisco product, the concept, and the tech intelligence."
"The most valuable feature is its IPS ability. You are able to balance security and connectivity."
"The solution is stable. This is one of the good things in Firepower. Especially if we use ESE with it."
"Setup is straightforward with the same reliability and scalability as the firewall series."

Cons

"There is room for improvement in the policy documentation."
"I would like to see the sanctions lifted so we could use the full solution and have the speed increased."
"They could provide one solution to fit all the use cases."
"The solution should contain the sandbox features which we find in Check Point."
"What I don't like about Cisco recently is they keep changing the names, which makes it hard for customers and sometimes even us as engineers to know what is the solution they are speaking about. For example, with AMP, now they call it Secure Endpoint and I don't know if in the next couple of years they're going to change it to something else. They should keep the names the same."
"The CLI, the console line interface, of the FTD could be improved. It's very complex, so without a GUI, it doesn't work well. I would like it to be more simple."
"The integration can be more secure."
"The solution would be better if it offered customers more integrations and more signatures."
"Lack of tools to help educate end users"

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Pricing depends on negotiation with the vendor, although I can say that it is moderate."
"Licensing fees for this solution are $3,500 USD, and there are no additional costs."
"I usually work with Fortinet and FortiGate which is a lower cost in comparison with Cisco NGIPS."
"The price of Cisco NGIPS could be reduced. It is more expensive than other solutions."
"This is an expensive product, with the biggest cost being the license that keeps the service going."
"We get cut in price since we use other Cisco products. We have the whole bundle of Cisco solutions."
"I would rate the pricing four out of 10."
"The tool's licensing costs are yearly."
