A stable solution with an intuitive interface and quick customer service
I have been working with Fortinet FortiGate, WatchGuard, Sophos, and SonicWall. I'm not as comfortable with SonicWall because of their UI and limitations. I prefer Fortinet above all other options. When it comes to configuration, I am confident in my ability to handle various tasks, including creating policies such as firewall rules, web policies, and application policies. Additionally, I can configure VPNs and implement load balancing, among other tasks. Overall, I feel much more comfortable working with Fortinet. Fortinet has made significant improvements by integrating AI with firewalls for threat analysis and prevention. In the past 2-3 years, they have launched FortiSASE and SIEM, and they also provide SOC services. Both Palo Alto and Fortinet FortiGate are excellent. While Fortinet FortiGate comes at higher prices, the functionality and support justify the cost. They promptly resolve firmware issues and inform all support providers about configuration changes.

Advanced security features enhance threat detection and prevention
Check Point NGFW provides granular application control and detailed visibility over application and user activity. It integrates with the ThreatCloud ecosystem, enabling real-time threat detection and prevention. The User Identity Awareness blade integrates with Active Directory, identifying user traffic sources. Check Point NGFW is highly scalable and has centralized management through SmartConsole, which manages policies, logs, and threat data. It reduced our incidents and decreased the time to analyze cyber threats by 70 percent.

Cyber security solution used for data transmission that requires training to make use of all of its powerful features
We use this solution to manage auto operations, technology networks and information technology within our infrastructure. The SCADA controls the power network and does not interfere with accounting system. This solution is used predominantly for data transmission.  This is a professional solution…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The price-to-performance ratio for using Fortinet FortiGate is always better compared to any other competitor, so they are rated better than the likes of Check Point or Palo Alto."
"I like that you are able to manage FortiGate from the FortiManager to create a more centralized environment."
"The security features that they have are quite good. On top of that, their licensing model is quite nice where they don't charge you anything for the SD-WAN functionality for the firewall."
"The security fabric is excellent."
"The main reason why I purchased the particular unit was that it had good reviews and what other people were saying as far as its completeness and its leading capabilities in terms of endpoint security was very good."
"The product is easy to use and is stable. The SV1 functionality is a benefit."
"I've never had a problem with Fortinet FortiGate support, so I'd rate it ten out of ten."
"Fortinet FortiGate is easy to use."
"They have very good support. In critical scenarios, they provide us very quick solutions, are very well-trained, and have a good knowledge about the product. That is what we expect from them."
"The performance has been very good."
"I love the redesigned interface starting with R80 as well as the ability for multiple engineers to work on the policy simultaneously."
"The Check Point architecture and packet are very good."
"The most valuable features are application control, regulation, and threat prevention."
"HTTP forwarding is something I haven't seen elsewhere."
"It provides end-to-end resolution."
"The separate management feature of Check Point NGFW is very convenient."
"This is a professional solution which has been the most valuable aspect of its use."

Cons

"We would like to see an upgrade to the VPN feature, we are using the VPN from outside of our office and there is a limitation to 10 connections, more connections would be suitable."
"I would like reporting to be improved and should offer a lot more tools to monitor the products."
"It could use better throughput on some of the smaller boxes for the branch offices."
"Their support's response time can be better. In the past six months, they took quite a long time to respond to the support tickets."
"Performance on the box and technical support are areas where Fortinet FortiGate can be improved."
"I would rate the technical support of Fortinet FortiGate as a five because it is not as strong as Cisco. Additionally, the turnaround time is very high compared to Cisco."
"Their software support needs improvement. I would prefer to have better support for bug fixes. Sometimes, we open a ticket, and it is very difficult to get a solution. Specifically, we are not at all happy with their support for load balancing."
"Fortinet FortiGate could improve by having more capabilities for troubleshooting VPN connections. For example, I do get some feedback about the current status, but I could use some history and logging of important events. The information is logged in our Syslog server, but I could use that information from the device. If they could provide a GUI to have some more insight on what's going with my VPN would be useful."
"The API support is good. However, Check Point needs to focus on more prepared scripts for some tiresome actions."
"Bug Fixes and enhancement requests should be remediated earlier, as we have multiple dependencies and auditors are forced to have the latest possible environments."
"Right now, with a larger user database and a high number of rules, it takes a bit of time for policy installation."
"With the increase of volume of traffic, the required resource/hardware to properly run goes up. Therefore, the hardware engineering to architecture flow has to be more efficient."
"The scalability of Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) is not very good; what you buy the first time is what you get, and it's hard to scale from there, but we over-scoped the deployment."
"The only reasons we are looking at other solutions are price and integration."
"Check Point could improve the time for delivering requested features from customers."
"There needs to be a Mac version of the Smart Console."
"The interface of this solution could be more user friendly. The initial set up could also be made more simple."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"When I look around at other products, such as Sophos, Fortinet FortiGate is 20% to 30% more expensive with our current cost."
"Fortinet Secure SD-WAN delivered the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) per Mbps among all other vendors."
"Its price is reasonable. They have a clear pricing policy. It is not complicated by the number of VPN users at a time. We know what the price is. The yearly subscription for the security license is rather high, but it is all included for whatever number of users you have and the kind of functions you need."
"If you purchase a one-year subscription with the hardware and then you want to renew for the second year, it is very costly."
"The price for the device and software is high. However, the solution is of good quality and has a lot of features."
"Currently, we are paying about $1,500 a month for three sites."
"Its price is normal. If I compare it with other vendors, such as Palo Alto, it's normal. Palo Alto is expensive."
"They need to be competitive with other solutions."
"Check Point NGFW is a little expensive."
"Use the basic sizing tool to do the correct sizing so you don't waste too much money, because it's not a very cheap solution when compared to other vendors."
"The licensing includes the cost of support."
"Check Point NGFW is not a cheap solution."
"Licensing is pretty straightforward and is based on the blades available, such as NGFW, NGTP, and NGTX."
"The pricing and licensing are expensive. If you compare it with Fortinet, then it is cheaper on a yearly basis. However, Check Point is the most expensive firewall right now in terms of licenses and its appliance. My recommendation is if you want a long-term investment, then you should use an open server. If you use an open server, then the latency is really low. If you pay for a full appliance, it's more expensive."
"It is more expensive than Cisco ASA but cheaper than Palo Alto."
"The tool is a bit expensive."
"This is an expensive solution."
