Service profiles simplify management and streamline network and storage processes
The most valuable features are the service profiles and the unified management of both network and storage. With UCS, it's quite easy to deploy. Whenever there's a failure of any component, it's very easy to swap because you just disassociate that profile, remove the faulty blade, connect the new blade, and associate that profile, maintaining the same MAC address and worldwide port name. Everything remains the same, and it's only the hardware that you're replacing. This makes it very easy for me to manage and troubleshoot.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The machine learning feature is valuable."
"Cisco Infrastructure is one of the top vendors and no one can beat them in terms of switching and routing."
"Creating UCS service profiles for quickly deploying servers and replicating that configuration to another server makes it easier for deployment."
"I can quickly manage the provisioned servers."
"The hardware is very powerful and it is a stable solution."
"A main feature of Cisco UCS Manager is its reliability, as all of the computing blades are in cluster mode."
"The most valuable features of Cisco UCS Manager include the visibility it provides and the ease of identifying issues within the Cisco environment."
"Cisco UCS Manager is recommended for its ease of deployment and management capabilities."
"From a usability and functionality perspective, Cisco UCS Manager is very good."

Cons

"They can improve the functionality that provides some numbers related to the behavior of the metrics."
"I would like to see improved visibility into the operating system, enabling us to identify issues directly from the operating system itself."
"Some settings are still fairly well hidden, even the basic ones."
"Cisco UCS is expensive compared to others. The Cisco UCS Chassis is more expensive than a standalone server, but some companies require standalone servers because of their production load and affordability. You need to pay more if you require more features on the Blade or if you need more ports on the switch."
"There is room for improvement in terms of cost and complexity to set up. It doesn't work straight out of the UCS, so someone who knows what they're doing is needed immediately, and it can be quite confusing."
"We have three data centers and if we could manage all three data centers using one interface, it would be great."
"I would like to see Cisco UCS optionally work as a hyper-converged system because right now, it only operates as a converged system."
"The interface and the way it is constructed is very complex. They should work to simplify it. It's quite difficult for somebody who doesn't know the product very well. Users should be able to get proficient with it faster. There's definitely room for improvement there."
"The installation and upgrade sytems need to be improved."

"You buy the hardware and then you get Cisco UCS Manager for free."
"With product discounts which can be negotiated, the product is a great value."
"We need to take a license for each port, which amounts to a big sum."
