Offers great utility with synthetic data generation and reliable technical support
Overall, this can definitely be the advantage of the product, and I'm happy with these functionalities that Broadcom provides. I totally recommend any application working on the database layer directly and I don't recommend any applications from other external vendors to perform the same function. Oracle and PostgreSQL have similar applications and they both work directly in the database, reading directly from the database, transforming values in another table within the same database, making it easy to run. The solution is saving me time and money in general because this application saves money and a lot of effort. I can generate any amount of data from Broadcom Test Data Manager, which has a lot of information and equations regarding this task. It saves money because my testing team needs this data to create use cases tested on realistic data. Broadcom Test Data Manager adds great value to my organization, but I believe it can be afforded only in international, large-sized companies. It is not affordable for medium or small-sized organizations.

Beneficial data security, good support, and straightforward initial setup
The initial setup of Protegrity Data Security was straightforward. However, we had a few problems, it's not multi-tenanted. It does not have a hierarchy of roles and differential priorities. To have the initial sandbox version of Protegrity Data Security up and running, took approximately one week. However, it needed to be set up in a resilient way because if it fails, then it is going to be a challenge bringing back the lost information. We have to be particular in terms of architecting it correctly which is taking us a bit of time. We are anticipating anywhere between four to six weeks to be finished.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We saw the demos, then we decided the solution was made for us."
"Broadcom TDM's best feature is the self-service portal."
"Test Data Management solution for our DevOps model, which is very useful, with data privatization (GDPR enable), synthetic test data generation, and test data provisioning as its main interesting features."
"When I look at the return on investment, there are not only huge financial gains on it, in fact, when I recently ran the numbers, we had about $1.1 million in savings on just the financials from 2016 alone."
"It allows us to create a testing environment that is repeatable, and we can manage the data so that our testing becomes automated, everything from actually performing the testing to also evaluating the results."
"Test Data Manager allows you to do synthetic data generation, gives you a high level of confidence in your data that you're creating, and keeps you out of the SOX arena because there's no production data within that environment."
"If I were talking to my peer managers, I would recommend Test Data Manager - and I have, on multiple occasions - because it does allow the developer to have quick access to data that, normally, would take them hours or sometimes days to gather."
"The most valuable feature of the product is its ability to generate and scrub test data."
"The most valuable feature of Protegrity Data Security is the reduction of information being exposed."
"The solution’s pricing is moderate."
"Its technical support team is helpful."
"The product is stable."
"The most valuable feature of Protegrity Data Security is the reduction of information being exposed."

Cons

"As the solution continues to evolve, the one thing I like about it is the API-friendly layers that they have added into the realm. So, I just would like to see more support around that and more usability."
"The relationship between cables needs to be added."
"That quickness I think is something that can be improved."
"Broadcom TDM takes a long time to import documents, which wastes time that could be spent on other things."
"The integration with various utilities is also really important. That still has to happen. That's a major area for improvement."
"It is not very scalable because even to generate maybe a couple of million records, it takes six to seven hours."
"Broadcom Test Data Manager is for data management. I would like to see some extension with data warehousing concerning ETL. It should also integrate with Jira or other reporting tools. Currently, after creating data, we update tickets and other information in various tools. This would enable us to attach relevant files or information to specific tickets."
"It wasn't as smooth as we had thought. We ran into a network issue, a firewall issue, things like that."
"Protegrity is using a different OS which has some bugs. Sometimes it's causing an initialization error."
"The solution's UI could be better."
"Protegrity Data Security could improve by having more integration."
"Protegrity Data Security could improve by having more integration."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The tool's pricing is high."
"Know all the data requirements before buying this product. There are a lot of features for this tool, which may or may not be useful to a particular company. Make sure of what your requirements for your data are."
"My company makes yearly payments toward the licensing costs. So, I consider the licensing costs to be expensive, especially considering what I have heard from my colleagues."
"I would rate Broadcom TDM's pricing as four out of five."
"The cost of this tool is pretty high... CA provides licenses for different utilities like masking but even if you break it up, the pricing is still high."
"Part of the licensing is dependent on whether you want to use the portal. It's based on floating users. The other part is dependent on what type of system you are using. We are using mainframe, so we paid good money for a mainframe license."
"Mainly, we compete with the IBM team and Informatica, and if you compare the license cost, Broadcom is too flexible. Depending on the customer's budget, we suggest they buy only respective SKUs, and it's much cheaper compared to others because we have gone over multiple deals where pricing was never a factor in differentiating products."
"It can be scaled for as many licenses as the customer is willing to pay. It's kind of expensive."
"We pay for a few additional services apart from its licenses."
