Offers flexibility in design and saves time in budgeting and forecasting processes
I find Board to be simple and easy to use. It offers significant flexibility in designing solutions. The system overall is very useful, with many capabilities that provide flexibility. Our budgeting and forecasting processes support around three hundred twenty users who would otherwise rely on Excel, making Board invaluable for saving time.

Has supported financial consolidation through accurate reporting and global currency conversion
Oracle HFM is excellent for consolidation and reconciliation. It helps me see the general overview of the business across several locations. The drill-through reporting enhances accuracy in financial analysis. Oracle HFM has a schedule that requires reporting, especially one that ties back to my general ledger. I have to report each line item that comprises that number. It helps me fact-check reported numbers with a schedule. For example, with payables, Oracle HFM allows me to have a list of numbers reported per supplier. This provides comfort that the numbers are not fictitious. Additionally, it has a feature that performs fact-checking from P&L to balance sheet. For instance, if depreciation is reported, it must align with what is in the profit or loss account. These features ensure integrity in the reported numbers and allow for quick error detection while serving as a reconciliation tool. The currency conversion feature provides a global view from entity currency to local currency perspective, enabling value checks in different currencies for the company as a whole. In Nigeria, I report in Naira, and I don't need to report in my parent currency. The entity can report in their currency into Oracle HFM, and the parent company converts to their currency. By inputting budget rates, I can convert to any reporting currency, particularly the parent company currency. This feature saves time, increases speed, and allows the parent company to value its subsidiaries quickly. Regarding data integration capabilities for ensuring data consistency and accuracy, it deserves a high rating. For example, with inventory, if there is an impairment, the reported amount in P&L should match the balance sheet's inventory impairment. This level of checking provides confidence in the accuracy of reported figures.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Between our data warehouse and BOARD, which are both brand new, we now have a more structured data view with more accurate, timely data."
"Board helps us to better explain KPI performance, thanks to the creation of dashboards that permit us to show the right information to discover trends and allows us to take action in advance."
"Our clients have improved a lot in terms of coordination and communication. This has improved their internal performance."
"The dynamic selections on the screen and details by function are also valuable for inside the data view."
"I think it's flexible. I chose this solution because, even though it wasn't out-of-the-box, you can customize it, and the long-term growth potential of the software is where I see the value."
"Primary valuable features are its flexibility and versatility and, obviously, functionality goes along with that. Plus, it does that at a small footprint in the file servers, and does it very efficiently."
"We have been very happy with what we have seen."
"We have better reporting and have been able to better track performance."
"The versatile data is probably the most valuable feature, since you can access it through the web interface or through Microsoft Office based solutions like Excel, Excel Smart View, PowerPoint and Word."
"Financial consolidation and reporting tool with good built-in features such as currency exchange and elimination."
"It is an expensive product but delivers what it promises, ensuring regulatory compliance, reducing risks associated with spreadsheets, and providing a better return on investment based on usage."
"The tool is stable."
"Oracle HFM is excellent for consolidation and reconciliation; it helps me see the general overview of the business across several locations."
"The data consolidation engine is outstanding in terms of speed and functionality."
"Oracle HFM's drill-through reporting has enhanced my customers' financial analysis significantly, allowing users to drill down to the base level in each of the dimensions and even further using Smart View for very granular level of general ledger cost centers, making the whole process more effective for their targets and deadlines."
"The most valuable feature is the flexibility and ease of configuration in terms of testing and formula creation."

Cons

"The system solution is about a nine out of 10, and the only reason why I would give it a nine and not a 10, is that it still takes IT folks to really support it."
"What could be better is the manual... nowadays, most people use a web client, but on the Board manual website, a lot of the information is only about the Windows client. If they could update that, it would be helpful."
"The product can be improved by making it possible to know where cubes are used."
"Pricing and licensing are not standard, but it can be tailored according to company needs."
"The initial setup was very complex for us."
"I would like an eLearning platform for BOARD."
"The reason I would say an eight and not a 10 is because - I do have a little bit of coding background - while it's nice that it's a user-interface development, could we speed it up if we could use code to actually develop faster, for people who would like that option?"
"The engine of the Board should be made powerful like the engine of IBM planning which is more powerful in terms of performance. The consolidated finance area also needs improvement."
"The module is not very appealing to technical users (not a lot of code, simple screen, etc.) but the process is a huge lifesaver for the accountants in the organization."
"If there could be data integration between HFM and the accounting software that would be ideal."
"Improvements can be made by possibly different interfaces to modernize it, more automation in scripting, and better integration with third-party solutions and reporting capabilities."
"The solution has integration challenges. We need a simple tool that is fool-proof for the data that is submitted not only for consolidation purposes but also for performance management and reporting purposes."
"In terms of improvement, one challenge with Oracle HFM is the need for technical knowledge in writing SQL syntax for custom extensions."
"The financial reporting tool hasn’t improved much since it was first implemented, and we are struggling with it."
"The user interface for data entry (forms) is very primitive – and lacks common Windows functionality such as copy/paste functions."
"The complexity is okay. I don't see it as super complex. The solution could have more functionality to make it a little bit more flexible."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Find a partner who will take responsibility for the implementation, and be available for support."
"In terms of the pricing, it was reasonable. BOARD is not the lowest in the market, but it was reasonable for us."
"The solution is quite expensive, if it is made cheaper then we can have more clients. I rate it four out of ten."
"It is not the cheapest product on earth, but you get so much. It provides good value for money."
"The tool's price is a bit high compared to other solutions."
"Oracle Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) uses the named user licensing model. There's different pricing depending on HFM and Essbase planning."
