It has the ability to provide run-time production problem resolution, but while the instrumentation is powerful, it can overwhelm the system and cause instability.
Extremely powerful drill down capability across .Net/Windows and Java based applications Ability to record application execution from user, system and code levels Full video and client level capture and recording of user sessions Extremely flexible deployment including connected mode (agent connects to controller) or standalone agent recording. The solution also provides the ability to allow clients to navigate to a url and execute the recording workflow using a "light agent approach" Ability to provide diagnostics with the same agent for JVM/IIS tier in addition to deep granularity and visibility at OS level

Real-time monitoring has improved our banking API performance and supports detailed business transaction analysis
The real-time monitoring is what we can see for anything that is needed in terms of CPU, memory, or the connections or the sessions related. It's real-time monitoring of performance of each of the components, which is what we need and use all the time. It's highly effective, I would say. Infrastructure visibility, transaction monitoring, to check the actual user experience in terms of the response time, MRT and all those things. We do the component monitoring like the API performance and the connections and all those things, but we also do the business process monitoring and business transaction monitoring.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Provided rapid ability to triage and diagnose customer production environments- exercises that normally would take weeks could be accomplished in hours with AppSight"
"Although the solution is expensive, the ROI makes it more cost effective."
"We've been able to triage and diagnose problems sooner and proactively tell the teams involved if there have been lags in their performances, so they could look into them before there are any errors in production."
"The alert mechanism in AppDynamics enhances server management tasks by using agents installed on each server."
"We just started using it so it is a little too early to tell but we have already seen how APM finds the issues with the different applications, which is very important for us."
"The transaction snapshots are the most valuable feature of AppDynamics"
"AppDynamics is stable and reliable."
"What I found valuable in AppDynamics Database Monitoring is good technical support, and I also like that it's scalable and stable."
"APM tool provides comprehensive information about several elements like performance, errors, and resources."

Cons

"Customer Service: Currently, the service levels offered by BMC for this solution are very poor."
"I would say that the support is 50/50. It is not very fast and there is definitely room for improvement in terms of support."
"The scalability could be improved. There is a limitation in terms of the technology that can be supported."
"The initial setup is not easy or straightforward. It's quite complex."
"If it can be able to intelligently provide all the things we need to look at, from a data point of view, that would be very useful."
"Further integrations with other monitoring systems would be very helpful. I want to see it interacting more with the infrastructure, to get more statistics and details from our infrastructure environment and not only applications."
"I would like the solution to be more customizable to meet our client's requirements."
"AppDyanmics requires better technical people to support the solution."
"Stability-wise, we experienced some performance issues when upgrading from 4.4 to 4.5."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"In terms of pricing, I feel that when you compare the benefits that we get to the price that we paid, it is reasonable."
"We buy the platform's yearly subscription."
"I rate AppDynamics Mobile Real-User Monitoring's pricing as seven out of ten. Mobile monitoring is paid based on the number of instances utilizing the mobile monitoring service, which increases as the scale grows. Consequently, your mobile user count can proportionally surpass all other applications."
"It could be a bit lower, but looking at the scalability, functionality, and other things, you can understand why AppDynamics is so expensive as compared to some of the cheaper products that don't have that full single pane of glass they've got. Dynatrace has got three different elements that you need to log into just to get a full view, which is not so good, and because of that, it is a bit cheaper."
"AppDynamics offers a yearly basis license."
"AppDynamics is really pricey as it requires licenses for every feature."
"It is a more expensive APM among the competitors, which is fine because it also does a lot more on the auto-detection and the AI side... It is not a cheap product. None of them are. The price is fair, but I could use it on more projects if they had a lower price."
"AppDynamics Server Monitoring is an expensive solution."
