Embedded analytics has unified diverse data sources and supports real-time operational decisions
I find Power BI Embedded Analytics to be a fairly good reporting tool and dashboarding tool. The color palette and everything about it is good. It would be beneficial to have reporting on top of a data warehouse, a lake house, or directly on an Excel-based solution. If Power BI can come as a full stack similar to SAP Analytics Cloud, it can embed with Azure very quickly. However, the full suite provided by SAP, starting from ERP through reporting, is somewhat loosely coupled, which can be helpful for some clients. Overall, Power BI is a very good tool for reporting. Embedded analytics may lack some features from the modeling perspective, such as dimension modeling, and there are multiple factors that lead us to prefer analytics on top of the warehouse rather than going for embedded analytics.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Birst uses several connection methods to take data in from your data sources and stages it into its own data mart, and this staging from several sources makes Birst a fairly robust data warehouse solution."
"This tool possesses valuable features such as its ability to perform ETL, extract data from various sources (flat files, relational DBs, application connectors) and dashboard scheduling."
"Everything we did in the marketing team needed to be based on data and Birst helped us to make calculated decisions based on the given data."
"Users can jump to the Birst dashboard from SFDC without a repeat login."
"The impact of Birst has been felt company-wide."
"The option to build and deploy analytical models quickly, within days rather than months."
"If you are looking for a cloud-based, lightweight data mart and reporting, this tool is good."
"Birst has made it easier for us to provide embedded data visualization tools to our customers."
"What I appreciate most about Power BI Embedded Analytics is that it is tightly integrated with Microsoft, which is a strong feature."
"The positive impact Power BI Embedded Analytics has made in my organization is the gain of time, the sharing of the same data, and the same information for all the stakeholders, leading to better decisions."

Cons

"The administration module was built using flash. It is clunky and outdated."
"Customer support takes lot of time to get a solution."
"I would like to see stronger in-built permissions capabilities."
"There were stability issues with Birst. A dashboard/report takes a lot of time to open if there is a lot of data."
"I would want to see some improvement in the user management module."
"As the volume of data gets bigger and bigger, so does the extraction/processing of the data and the dashboard rendering."
"Release management and version control are poor or not available."
"The ability to filter out massive amounts of data and load it properly on screen needs to be improved."
"Embedded analytics may lack some features from the modeling perspective, such as dimension modeling, and there are multiple factors that lead us to prefer analytics on top of the warehouse rather than going for embedded analytics."
