The solution improves ETL performance but faces challenges with version upgrades
For ETL, I feel the performance is excellent. If I create jobs in a standard way, the performance is great, and maintenance is also seamless. It is serverless, so I do not need to worry about other integrations. It runs on a serverless VM. Glue services from AWS are regularly upgraded with new properties and functions. We use PySpark and other frameworks, which help customize our ETL process in a standard way. During our process, we utilized the typical SQL ITIL process standard in Glue-oriented ETL services, which helped us improve performance and time. AWS running time, mostly during the morning, saved us time compared to the old ETL method. There are many email notifications once a job is successful or fails, and we get notifications using SES or AWS's Simple Notification Service. Glue is integrated with both email alerts, and we are responsible for managing the full data journey from end to end.

Fully-featured, good performance, and easy to use and install
We are using it to back up the software across the network to a remote server It is fully featured. It has allowed me to do everything I wanted to do. It is also very easy to use and install. It is pretty self-explanatory, and their support was also very good. Everything is fine. The user…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"AWS Glue is very quick to start without cold starts, unlike AWS Lambda."
"In my opinion, it is one of the best tools in the market for ETL processes because of the fact that you pay as you use, which separates it from other big tools such as PowerCenter, Pentaho Data Integration, and Talend."
"AWS Glue's most valuable features are the data catalog, including crawlers and tables, and Glue Studio, which means you don't have to use custom code."
"It's fairly straightforward as a product; it's not very complicated."
"The solution helps organizations gain flexibility in defining the structure of the data."
"The best thing about AWS Glue is its scalability and how easy it is to process a large amount of data."
"Glue is a NoSQL-based data ETL tool that has some advantages over IIS and ISAs."
"We are seeing a very good return on our investment."
"Customer Service: We have a support contract with Jumpmind. The support resources are readily available and provide expert support to any questions."
"It is fully featured. It has allowed me to do everything I wanted to do."
"It is fully featured, has allowed me to do everything I wanted to do, is very easy to use and install, is pretty self-explanatory, and their support was also very good."

Cons

"The mapping area and the use of the data catalog from Glue could be better."
"Beginners need additional support as it currently lacks some features required for complex transformations, often necessitating custom Python coding."
"The monitoring is not that good. We'd like to see job progress be more clear."
"It is not clear how the partition discovery would have been affected by more data coming in."
"With AWS Glue, you pay more, but if you want to process the data, with speed and performance, you need the correct EC2 instances."
"The crucial problem with AWS Glue is that it only works with AWS. It is not an agnostic tool like Pentaho. In PowerCenter, we can install the forms from Google and other vendors, but in the case of AWS Glue, we can only use AWS."
"The solution could be cheaper. The price of the solution is an area that needs improvement."
"AWS Glue would be improved by making it easier to switch from single to multi-cloud."
"The user interface could improve. We are looking at some cloud-based databases, and I don't think they support that."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I rate pricing an eight out of ten."
"AWS Glue is a high-priced solution that bills the client $150,000 to $250,000 annually."
"The solution's pricing is based on DPUs so it is a good idea to optimize use or it can get expensive."
"I rate the tool an eight on a scale of one to ten, where one is expensive, and ten is expensive."
"AWS Glue is a paid service that doesn't come under the free trial of AWS."
"This solution is affordable and there is an option to pay for the solution based on your usage."
"AWS Glue follows a pay-as-you-go model, wherein the cost of the data you use will be counted as a monthly bill."
"Its price is good. We pay as we go or based on the usage, which is a good thing for us because it is simple to forecast for the tool. It is good in terms of the financial planning of the company, and it is a good way to estimate the cost. It is also simple for our clients. In my opinion, it is one of the best tools in the market for ETL processes because of the fact that you pay as you use, which separates it from other big tools such as PowerCenter, Pentaho Data Integration, and Talend."
