Centralized console has streamlined multi‑cloud management and supports automated operations
Apart from the centralized management console, Aviatrix gives the additional advantage or simplifies the way we manage the cloud environments. When it comes to troubleshooting or more networking-related issues, the native cloud solution has limited options available within the cloud environment. Aviatrix provides those additional benefits to manage effectively when managing troubleshooting or issues. Aviatrix is making our day-to-day job easier and also saving a lot of time because it gives options for cloud-to-cloud peering, as well as a transit hub and spoke architecture. It simplifies how we manage the multi-cloud environment through the single console, and the connectivity options become very easier. Aviatrix supports the automation platform. It supports Infrastructure as Code (IAC), which makes deployment faster with automation. This reduces operational overhead. Aviatrix has positively impacted my organization by making management and administration easier, allowing us to manage all the cloud infrastructure from a single console. There is less overhead on operations due to automation support, and cloud network segmentation has become more advanced.

Has improved network visibility and security through micro-segmentation and SDN capabilities
This feature gives us flexibility and allows us to manage everything under one pane. We can see everything on one console, including network operations and behavior. Monitoring and security are among the best features for VMware NSX. For micro-segmentation, it's integrated with our endpoint security. If there are any issues with servers or VMs, it notifies us so we can isolate the servers and investigate. It provides distributed security features such as firewall and intrusion, IDS, IPS. The security level with IPS and IDS in VMware NSX is excellent. It also provides logical switching and routing which gives an extra layer for Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching requirements. The solution provides flexibility, automation, and self-service capabilities, resulting in cost savings as extensive expertise isn't required. Once automation and self-service are implemented, many tasks can be completed automatically. Load balancing is another excellent feature. Multiple servers can run on load balancing features, which is particularly useful since we have many application servers running. Sharing loads between servers provides the best performance.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Its exceptional capability to seamlessly integrate with various cloud services makes it the preferred choice for multi-cloud deployments."
"The product has greatly improved our organization by saving costs for multiple direct connections and simpler cloud configurations."
"Aviatrix has positively impacted my organization by making management and administration easier, allowing us to manage all the cloud infrastructure from a single console."
"Using Aviatrix, we saw a clear ROI through approximately a 30 to 40% reduction in network management effort, which meant fewer resources were needed for operations, along with faster deployments of around 50% improvement, and reduced downtime, translating into cost savings and better productivity."
"This tool resolves the overlapping of CIDR’s IP addresses in a multi-cloud environment, which is its best feature. The product also gives packet-level details on the data that has been put from one cloud to another. Currently, no other solution in the market can give this kind of detail. There is also the high VPN connectivity which gives high throughput. Internet service providers have a limitation on large migrations like 10 Gigabytes or 2 to 2.3 GBPS. However, this tool gives you a functionality where you can bundle multiple tunnels into one tunnel. Thereafter, you can transfer the data from one environment to another or from on-prem to the cloud."
"It has enhanced the way I can deploy and manage VPCs and other connectivity services, provided valuable insights into latency, ports used, and top talkers, and offered effective troubleshooting tools."
"It has enhanced the way I can deploy and manage VPCs and other connectivity services, provided valuable insights into latency, ports used, and top talkers, and offered effective troubleshooting tools."
"The connections are seamless, and we can access the static clouds on the platform itself. We are also able to trace the issues. The most valuable features of the solution are security, user interface, and performance."
"The solution is very good at micro-segmentation."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to create, develop, and deploy servers in minutes to hours, rather than days."
"One significant advantage of VMware NSX is the ability to provide advanced security at the micro-level, focusing on securing applications and workloads rather than just the network structure or virtualization-based network security."
"When you have a solid secure solution between your on-prem and cloud solution, then you're in a safe place."
"I value the ability to dynamically configure our network on the fly using VMware NSX."
"The ability to scale from different clouds. At the moment, the scalability of the product is the number one thing that I saw."
"I can definitely recommend VMware NSX to other users."
"It provides a single pane of glass, where you can do the switching, routing, load balancing, IPS, IDS, etc., and everything is under one umbrella, so there is no vendor dependency."

Cons

"I find that the pricing, setup costs, and licensing for Aviatrix are on the higher side."
"The solution needs to improve the onboarding architecture."
"There can be a steep learning curve for users who are not familiar with it or multi-cloud networking concepts"
"The tool has a very limited local presence in the GCC market. I am based in Dubai, UAE and it would be very difficult for me to reach out to US staff for technical discussion during the tool’s implementation. The tool needs to focus on the GCC market which includes UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, etc. There is nobody to help you out in this region."
"Aviatrix should include more integrated security features like intrusion detection and lateral movement detection."
"There could be an easy availability of multiple features in the profile."
"There is room for improvement regarding enhancing its security features in response to modern cybersecurity challenges."
"Aviatrix can improve by simplifying its UI or UX for new users, enhancing documentation for complex setups, and reducing the learning curve so that juniors can understand it better."
"VMware NSX could improve by having more compatibility with other none Window-based operating systems."
"The price could be better. The non-enterprise version of the product should also be improved. I would like VMware to expand beyond the network and provide some VLAN technologies and more. I think we have one, but it's more on the distribution side because it's more on the upper side of the network. I'm looking forward to that."
"One aspect that needs improvement is the need for further automation."
"The ticket support response time from VMware could be improved. Often, callbacks are delayed, which can be problematic if the servers are in production."
"NSX could better integrate with open-source products. Of course, it integrates with some, but I know many people are uncomfortable deploying NSX with certain open-source solutions, such as Radar."
"They could branch out to the physical layer."
"The solution could benefit from improvements in its pricing and scalability."
"Lastline is not a cheap product if compared with their competitors."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Aviatrix is a pretty expensive solution."
"It operates on a consumption-based model and the expenses depend on factors such as the number of virtual machines you use and the resources consumed."
"The tool is quite expensive."
"During the initial phase, it operates as an open-source and it's a free tool."
"There is a license required for this solution, we pay annually."
"The price is significantly high and it can be a hurdle for many potential users."
"The subscription is on a yearly basis."
"The solution is reasonable at the local level."
"This solution requires a licence."
"We haven't had to hire a dedicated network engineer because NSX handles 90 percent of it. The reduced overhead in terms of managing networks has been the biggest plus."
"VMware NSX is expensive and everything is licensed. We have to pay for each individual feature."
"The product pricing ranges from medium to expensive. I rate the pricing a seven out of ten."
