Secure internet access has reduced threats and simplifies firewall management for distributed teams
Threat detection needs improvement; Arista Edge Threat Management NG Firewall should follow Alto and Fortinet. One limitation that I've seen is AI-driven automation which needs to vastly improve. It has fewer third-party integrations, and therefore the adoption amongst very large enterprises is less; it's largely with the SMBs. Customer support can be improved. It's a smaller global footprint that Arista provides, with fewer certified partners in some regions and limited 24/7 support for premium vendors. I've categorically mentioned that it has sophisticated threat detection capabilities but they can be bettered. AI-driven automation can be improved, and therefore, I think the adoption with large enterprises can be much better. I think the current AI capabilities of Arista Edge Threat Management NG Firewall are a bit limited compared to other vendors. It primarily relies on threat intelligence feeds, signature-based detection, and reputation services. Currently, I would rate its AI capabilities as probably a seven out of ten because it does not provide for extensive GenAI or advanced ML-driven autonomous capabilities like some of its competitors. Threat intelligence aspects can be further improved, and I think there's a lot that the product can do with respect to the usage of AI. AI-driven automation and threat detection can vastly improve. I don't think they were purchased through AWS Marketplace. The adoption has to increase amongst large customers, and threat intelligence needs to improve for many customers to adopt, enhancing the security ecosystem that is relatively small.

Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) can be improved in several areas. First, the interface could be a little more intuitive for new users. The Smart Console is powerful, but it has a steep learning curve when you start using it. Some simple functions for common tasks would help. Second, the initial setup and configuration take quite a bit of time and expertise. It would be helpful if there were more guides, wizards, or templates to speed that up. Third, the price model could be more transparent and flexible. The license cost can add up quickly, specifically when you want to add more advanced features. Finally, I would appreciate seeing better integration with some third-party security tools we use. Right now, we have to do a lot of manual work to make everything talk to each other. Overall, these are minor things. The core product is really solid and does what it is supposed to do very well. The documentation could be more comprehensive in some areas. When we run into issues, the documentation does not have clear answers, so we end up contacting support. Speaking of support, the response time could be faster sometimes. We have had cases where we need help with a certain security issue, and it takes longer than we would prefer to get a response. As for features, it would be nice to have more general reporting options so we can customize reports for different teams and stakeholders without having to do manual work afterward. One more thing, better mobile access to the dashboard would be helpful. Sometimes we need to check on security alerts when we are away from the office, and the mobile experience is not as smooth as it could be. Again, these are improvements that would make it even better, not issues with the core product itself.

Quotes from Members

"Arista Edge Threat Management NG Firewall has positively impacted my organization by reducing botnet attacks."
"Phish Blocker is a valuable feature."
"I would say that if you're a small and medium enterprise or an education institution and you have a distributed organization looking for a cost-effective and easy-to-manage next-generation firewall solution with fairly good security, VPN, filtering, and centralized management, then Arista Edge Threat Management NG Firewall is an excellent choice."
"The best features Check Point NGFW offers in my experience are the real-time prevention and the virtualization and reporting capabilities."
"It has allowed us to grow in a safe way and in accordance with our particular needs."
"The QoS blade is very good for controlling traffic such as Windows patches, mail traffic and other stuff."
"I have always found that Check Point's fully integrated management provides significant improvements to organisations where I have deployed them."
"The most valuable feature is that the scalable 64000 Next Generation Firewalls are designed to excel in large data centers and the telco environment as well."
"In addition to the different security features that Check Point security solutions have, their integration with other technologies makes the security environment a complete security type."
"The most valuable feature is the centralized management, which gives us control over all of the Check Point gateways."
"Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) has positively impacted my organization because it is our core security system, and it performs effectively."

Cons

"Arista Edge Threat Management NG Firewall can be improved, particularly the user interface, which is not very good, and also the logs, which are not very good."
"The documentation is not clear."
"The product has a lot to improve in the area of policy implementation."
"Threat detection needs improvement; Arista Edge Threat Management NG Firewall should follow Alto and Fortinet."
"The end-user VPN could be improved. It could benefit from some modification."
"We are looking for a cheaper product that is more integrated than our Cisco Network appliance."
"Check Point NGFW should improve its user interface to make it more user-friendly and intuitive."
"The product's technical support services need improvement."
"While the Smart Console is powerful, I find that it can feel heavy and slow with a large rules base, where a simple policy change sometimes takes longer than expected, impacting agility in a fast-moving environment."
"The graphical user interface (GUI) could benefit from some updates."
"The biggest improvement they could make is having one software to install on all three levels of their products, so that the SMBs, the normal models, and the chassis would all run the same software. Now, while there is central management, everything that has to be configured on the gateway itself works differently on the three kinds of devices."
"Technical support and scalability both require improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I consider it an averagely-priced tool."
"The tool is quite cheap."
"There are competitors that have more expensive solutions than Check Point NGFW, such as Palo Alto. There are times when Check Point NGFW can have good offerings with a three-year license. The presence of Palo Alto has been heavily invested in marketing."
"Check Point brings good value for the money and is competitive in the market."
"The price of this product is not too costly and you do not need to pay for all of the features."
"I don't see that Check Point is very high, but it is geared more towards enterprises."
"The pricing is high compared to competitors."
"I rate the pricing of Check Point NGFW a five on a scale of one to ten, where one is high price, and ten is low price."
"You get licensing bundles, so depending on which features you want to activate, your license is going to be more expensive. Some things, like Threat Extraction and Threat Emulation, require subscriptions."
"The price could be decreased, because the competitors of Check Point Firewall are giving lower prices in comparison."
