Advanced decision trees and seamless data pattern analysis transform data preparation
One of the most valuable features of Altair Knowledge Studio is its decision trees, which are quite advanced and popular compared to other tools. The Segment Viewer is another unique feature that provides a comprehensive view of data patterns and helps identify anomalies before creating decision trees. Additionally, the ability to export code in the language of SAS is valuable, and the tool's drag-and-drop functionality makes it accessible to business users without a coding background.

Improved data governance has enabled sensitive data tracking but cost management still needs work
I believe we could improve Databricks integration with cloud service providers. The impact of our current integration has not been particularly good, and it's becoming very expensive for us. The inefficiencies in our implementation, such as not shutting down warehouses when they're not in use or reserving the right number of credits, have led to increased costs. We made several beginner mistakes, such as not taking advantage of incremental loading and running overly complicated queries all the time. We should be using ETL tools to help us instead of doing it directly in Databricks. We need more experienced professionals to manage Databricks effectively, as it's not as forgiving as other platforms such as Snowflake. I think introducing customer repositories would facilitate easier implementation with Databricks.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"One of the most valuable features of Altair Knowledge Studio is its decision trees, which are quite advanced and popular compared to other tools."
"It is fast, it's scalable, and it does the job it needs to do."
"Having one solution for everything, from data engineering to machine learning, is beneficial since everything comes under one hood."
"The most valuable feature of Databricks is the notebook, data factory, and ease of use."
"Automation with Databricks is very easy when using the API."
"We are completely satisfied with the ease of connecting to different sources of data or pocket files in the search"
"Databricks gives you the flexibility of using several programming languages independently or in combination to build models."
"It helps integrate data science and machine learning capabilities."
"There are good features for turning off clusters."

Cons

"It would be beneficial if Altair Knowledge Studio could offer a more unified platform that includes data preparation, predictive modeling, and model exportation."
"Instead of relying on a massive instance, the solution should offer micro partition levels. They're working on it, however, they need to implement it to help the solution run more effectively."
"The API deployment and model deployment are not easy on the Databricks side."
"Overall it's a good product, however, it doesn't do well against any individual best-of-breed products."
"The interface of Databricks could be easier to use when compared to other solutions. It is not easy for non-data scientists. The user interface is important before we had to write code manually and as solutions move to "No code AI" it is critical that the interface is very good."
"In my opinion, areas of Databricks that have room for improvement involve the dashboards. Until recently, everyone used third-party systems such as Power BI to connect to Databricks for dashboards and reports, but they're now coming up with their IBI dashboard, and I think they're on the right track to improve that even further."
"It would be better if it were faster. It can be slow, and it can be super fast for big data. But for small data, sometimes there is a sub-second response, which can be considered slow. In the next release, I would like to have automatic creation of APIs because they don't have it at the moment, and I spend a lot of time building them."
"Databricks is not geared towards the end-user, but rather it is for data engineers or data scientists."
"There has been a significant evolution in databases. One area of improvement is the Databricks File System (DBFS), where command-line challenges arise when accessing files."

"My smallest project is around a hundred euros, and my most expensive is just under a thousand euros a week. That is based on terabytes of data processed each month."
"We only pay for the Azure compute behind the solution."
"I would rate the tool’s pricing an eight out of ten."
"I rate the price of Databricks as eight out of ten."
"The licensing costs of Databricks is a tiered licensing regime, so it is flexible."
"The price of Databricks is reasonable compared to other solutions."
"We find Databricks to be very expensive, although this improved when we found out how to shut it down at night."
