We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Actifio was very stable. Whenever they identified bugs, they would promptly provide us with patches.""Very user-friendly and the QSA is very good.""Very user-friendly and the QSA is very good.""They will assist me in achieving whatever budget issue the client may be having.""This product has unique capabilities that lead the product category in test data management, cloning and recovery."

"Core features that we needed were synthetic data creation, and to be able to do complex data mining and profiling across multiple databases with referential integrity intact across them. CA's product actually came through with the highest score and met the most of our needs.""The combination of extract, mask, and load, along with synthetic data, is what is generally needed by any of our clients, and CA TDM has really good compatibility in both of the areas.""What I find to be most valuable is its ability to do synthetic data creation. I love that because it has a lot of flexibility and you do not have to worry about one specific database or how you are going to manage all the data points.""The scalability is outstanding. We're able to scale it to any size of data that we want. We can do small data sets, we can do large data sets.""There is other stuff that they are working on right now, and that includes things like the vTDM or Virtual Test Data Management. That is where they have the ability to do test data clones. It is really neat because after doing some of that creation, or if you are going to do some subsetting, then you have a great looking database.""TDM allows us to find the right test data for the test that we need, and then it also allows us to get the required data inputs into our API test, so that we can do a full test.""Data privatization (GDPR enable), synthetic test data generation, and test data provisioning are its main interesting features.""When you have hundreds and hundreds of databases everywhere, how do you do that without looking for keys? If you do it manually, you're going to need a lot of people. With the tool, I work with five people on my team. Right now, we're modeling 700 different databases, and we can do it very quickly because of the tool."

Cons
"The initial setup is complex.""While the product does support various databases, the company needs to make more of an effort to support N-minus-one compatibility.""The solution doesn't support AIX software or in-cloud, and we have a lot of servers running on AIX and Oracle.""Areas that need improvement would be the support for recovery in the physical environment.""Lacks the option to price backup costs within the solution itself."

"Broadcom Test Data Manager is for data management. I would like to see some extension with data warehousing concerning ETL. It should also integrate with Jira or other reporting tools. Currently, after creating data, we update tickets and other information in various tools. This would enable us to attach relevant files or information to specific tickets.""They should make the Portal a little more user-friendly, make it even easier to configure things directly from the Portal.""The relationship between cables needs to be added.""It has a feature called TDM Portal, where testers can find test data by themselves, based on multiple models. They can reserve the data so that it belongs to one group or individual. Obviously, that data is not available to anybody else... This feature is for one environment. But if a different group of testers wanted that data for a different environment, they can't use it via CA TDM. That feature doesn't exist.""We are using a specific database. We are not using Oracle or SQL, Microsoft. We are using Teradata. There are some things that they don't have in their software. For example, when delivering data, they are not delivering them in the fastest possible way. There are some things which are faster.""A lot of research, data analysis, and work needs to be done on the source system in the tool which requires a data expert. This tool definitely requires a senior person to work on this issue, as it might be a challenge for a tester.""All financial institutions are based on mainframes, so they're never going to go away. There are ppportunities to increase functionality and efficiencies within the mainframe solution, within this TDM product.""Get everything centralized into the portal."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Pricing is on a case by case basis."
  • "Support is very good. They send out a VM link and help you fix any issues."
  • More Actifio Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "It can be scaled for as many licenses as the customer is willing to pay. It's kind of expensive."
  • "Know all the data requirements before buying this product. There are a lot of features for this tool, which may or may not be useful to a particular company. Make sure of what your requirements for your data are."
  • "Part of the licensing is dependent on whether you want to use the portal. It's based on floating users. The other part is dependent on what type of system you are using. We are using mainframe, so we paid good money for a mainframe license."
  • "The cost of this tool is pretty high... CA provides licenses for different utilities like masking but even if you break it up, the pricing is still high."
  • "I would rate Broadcom TDM's pricing as four out of five."
  • "My company makes yearly payments toward the licensing costs. So, I consider the licensing costs to be expensive, especially considering what I have heard from my colleagues."
  • "Mainly, we compete with the IBM team and Informatica, and if you compare the license cost, Broadcom is too flexible. Depending on the customer's budget, we suggest they buy only respective SKUs, and it's much cheaper compared to others because we have gone over multiple deals where pricing was never a factor in differentiating products."
  • "The tool's pricing is high."
